Importance: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are increasingly recognized for their ability to promote patient-centered care, but concerted health information technology (HIT)-enabled PROM implementations have yet to be achieved for national surgical quality improvement.
Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of collecting PROMs within a national surgical quality improvement program.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This was a pragmatic implementation cohort study conducted from February 2020 to March 2023.
Objective: To investigate the initial set of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) and their associations with 30-day surgical outcomes.
Background: PROs provide important information that can be used to improve routine care and facilitate quality improvement. The American College of Surgeons conducted a demonstration project to capture PROs into the NSQIP to complement clinical data.
Dyslipidemia is a leading contributor to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). There has been a significant improvement in the treatment of dyslipidemia in the past 10 years with the development of new pharmacotherapies. The intent of this review is help enhance clinicians understanding of non-statin lipid lowering therapies in accordance with the 2022 American College of Cardiology Expert Consensus Clinical Decision Pathway on the Role of Non-statin Therapies for LDL-Cholesterol Lowering.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of functional testing in comparison to invasive coronary angiography (ICA) among acute chest pain patients whose first diagnostic modality was a coronary computed tomography angiogram (CCTA) and were found to have intermediate coronary stenosis, defined as 50%-70% luminal stenosis.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 4763 acute chest pain patients ≥18 years old who received a CCTA as the initial diagnostic modality. Of these, 118 patients met enrollment criteria and proceeded to either stress test (80/118) or directly to ICA (38/118).
In Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC), one of the causes of maternal and child mortality is a lack of medical knowledge and consequently the inability to seek timely healthcare. Mobile health (mHealth) technology is gradually becoming a universal intervention platform across the globe due to ubiquity of mobile phones and network coverage. MANTRA is a novel mHealth intervention developed to tackle maternal and child health issues through a serious mobile game app in rural Nepal, which demonstrated a statistically significant knowledge improvement in rural women.

Here, we demonstrate a deep learning-based spectral reconstruction framework using a compact and low-cost on-chip sensing scheme that is not constrained by many of the design trade-offs inherent to grating-based spectroscopy. The system employs a plasmonic spectral encoder chip containing 252 different tiles of nanohole arrays fabricated using a scalable and low-cost imprint lithography method, where each tile has a specific geometry and thus a specific optical transmission spectrum.

Recent Findings: Youth and children are capable of peer and community education and activism concerning disaster issues and such participation benefits the young actors. Family and sibling support are important in easing the impact of trauma on children.
Background & Aims: The intestinal epithelium is maintained by intestinal stem cells (ISCs), which produce postmitotic absorptive and secretory epithelial cells. Initial fate specification toward enteroendocrine, goblet, and Paneth cell lineages requires the transcription factor Atoh1, which regulates differentiation of the secretory cell lineage. However, less is known about the origin of tuft cells, which participate in type II immune responses to parasite infections and appear to differentiate independently of Atoh1.

CLINICAL FINDINGS All 3 ferrets had clinical signs suggestive of dysphagia or esophagitis on initial examination. Esophagoscopy, barium-contrast esophagography, or both revealed foreign bodies with mucosal inflammation in 1 patient and an esophageal foreign body with stricture in 2 patients.

Importance: The use of 3-dimensional (3D) endoscopy has been described in the pediatric airway and has been shown to improve visualization of complex airway anatomy. Laryngomalacia is one of the most common airway disorders evaluated in pediatric otolaryngology offices. Reflective practice was used as a process of self-inquiry and transformation in a PhD study of my specialist role in single and family homelessness. New to homelessness when I embarked on the study, there was little to guide my nursing practice and, notably, there was insufficient research evidence to demonstrate the effectiveness of specialist practice with homeless people. Through my reflexive narrative study, that research gap was addressed.
