Background: People with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a higher risk for progression to tuberculosis disease following infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We produced a nationwide incidence estimate and description of tuberculosis among people with kidney failure.
Methods: We completed a cross-sectional descriptive analysis of people with a reported case of tuberculosis in the United States between 2010 and 2021.
Atomically precise nanoclusters (NCs) are promising building blocks for designing materials and interfaces with unique properties. By incorporating heteroatoms into the core, the electronic and magnetic properties of NCs can be precisely tuned. To accurately predict these properties, density functional theory (DFT) is often employed, making the rigorous benchmarking of DFT results particularly important.

The CXCL12/CXCR4 pathway in cancer promotes metastasis but the molecular details of how this pathway cross-talks with oncogenes are understudied. An oncogene pathway known to promote breast cancer metastasis in MDA-MB-231 xenografts is that of Mouse Double Minute 2 and 4 (MDM2 and MDM4, also known as MDMX).

This was obtained as an unintended product of an attempted Curtius rearrangement that involved benzyl-amine as one of the reagents and 1,2-di-chloro-ethane as the solvent. Part of a series of reactions of a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE), this was not the intended reaction outcome.

Despite efforts to increase diversity in clinical trials, children and adults from Latino backgrounds remain underrepresented. Quality improvement concepts, strategies, and tools demonstrate promise in enhancing recruitment and enrollment in clinical trials.

Despite its importance, research on this topic is limited. This study contributes to the literature by exploring problematic anger in a large sample of Norwegian military personnel who served in NATO missions in Afghanistan.

While the understanding of hypertension has grown considerably, there remain gaps in US healthcare research. Specifically, there is a lack of focus on undiagnosed and uncontrolled hypertension in primary care settings.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAicardi-Goutières syndrome (AGS) is an autoinflammatory disease characterized by aberrant interferon (IFN)-α production. The major cause of morbidity in AGS is brain disease, yet the primary source and target of neurotoxic IFN-α remain unclear. Here, we demonstrated that the brain was the primary source of neurotoxic IFN-α in AGS and confirmed the neurotoxicity of intracerebral IFN-α using astrocyte-driven Ifna1 misexpression in mice.

Data-driven approaches based on electronic health records (EHRs) in primary care are seen as a strong opportunity to address this situation. This qualitative study evaluated the development, sustainability, and usability of an EHR-integrated hypertension disparities dashboard for health care professionals in primary care.

This study set out to evaluate the epidemiology, management, and outcomes, where care was imparted and by whom, and offer resource utilization suggestions regarding pediatric fractures presenting to a Canadian pediatric hospital. Records of patients from 0 to 18 years of age who presented to the British Columbia Children's Hospital Emergency Department between November 1, 2016, and January 31, 2021, with metacarpal or phalangeal fractures were analyzed.

Objective: To reduce the Dimensions of Anger Reactions 5-item (DAR-5) scale to a very brief measure.
Background: The first cases of the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia were recorded in January 2020, which was during the 'Black Summer' bushfires of 2019-20 and prior to additional disasters in some regions. Few studies have considered the compound impact of disasters and the pandemic.
Aims: To improve understanding of the impact on mental health and well-being of the pandemic in disaster-affected communities.
People with motor neuron disease often experience non-motor symptoms that may occur secondary to, or distinct from, motor degeneration and that may significantly reduce quality of life, despite being under-recognized and evaluated in clinical practice. Non-motor symptoms explored in this population-based study include pain, fatigue, gastrointestinal issues, poor sleep, low mood, anxiety, problematic saliva, apathy, emotional lability, cognitive complaints and sexual dysfunction. People registered on the Clinical Audit Research and Evaluation of motor neuron disease platform, the Scottish Motor Neuron Disease Register, were invited to complete a questionnaire on non-motor symptoms and a self-reported Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Functional Rating Scale.

Aims: To explore the mental health impact of the earthquakes in Syria on the population across areas differentially damaged by the disaster.
Background: Managing hypertension in racial and ethnic minoritized groups (eg, African American/Black patients) in primary care is highly relevant. However, evidence on whether or how electronic health record (EHR)-driven approaches in primary care can help improve hypertension management for patients of racial and ethnic minoritized groups in the United States remains scarce.
Objective: This review aims to examine the role of the EHR in supporting interventions in primary care to strengthen the hypertension management of racial and ethnic minoritized groups in the United States.
