Background: Kyphotic spinal deformity is a complication of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). In rare cases, particularly in obese patients, the deformity might extend to the cervicothoracic spine, resulting in a severe "chin-on-abdomen" deformity. This condition severely impairs quality of life by affecting gaze, swallowing, and causing chronic pain.

The goal of the present study was to investigate what variables are associated with the number of quit attempts before successful abstinence was achieved. Data were collected from 421 International Quit & Recovery Registry participants.

This study aimed to assess the differences in the effects of 30-day perioperative complications on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) after multilevel anterior versus posterior cervical fusion.
Methods: Adult patients who underwent anterior or posterior cervical fusion at three or more levels between 2014 and 2020 were analyzed.
Objective: Fasting insulin and the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index are relatively simple and reliable noninvasive markers of insulin resistance (IR). Given the relevance of correctly diagnosing IR, we emphasize the importance of establishing reliable reference intervals (RIs) for these markers. This study aimed to determine the RIs of fasting insulin and HOMA-IR index in adults living in Rio de Janeiro and, secondarily, to verify potential RI differences between sexes.

Unlabelled: In forensic scenarios, such as armed conflicts or mass disasters, the oral cavity can be a valuable source of identification information relevant to legal issues. In many European Union countries, it is mandatory to register dental records for identification purposes. A pilot and quasi-experimental study was performed.

Methods: This is a retrospective study performed on consecutive patients between January 2015 and December 2019. The index- and adjacent-level segmental lordosis (SL) and disc angle (DA) were measured.
Femoral nerve injury is a rare but devastating complication of direct anterior approach total hip arthroplasty that occurs in about 1% of the cases and could potentially lead to debilitating loss of knee extension. In this case report, we present a case of femoral nerve injury following direct anterior approach hip arthroplasty with an inability to extend the affected knee, gait instability, and multiple falls. For this patient, an innovative functional adductor magnus muscle transfer was performed to restore knee extension.

Minimally invasive surgical (MIS) approaches may offer a more durable result. We report institutional outcomes of simultaneous MIS transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MISTLIF) and adjacent-level laminectomy for patients with low grade spondylolisthesis and ASD.

In this study, we evaluated the impact of the single nucleotide polymorphisms rs920778 and rs12826786 on bladder cancer risk and survival. This case-control study included 106 bladder cancer patients and 199 cancer-free controls.

The establishment of anthropometric measurements is of fundamental importance for the correct identification of human bodies. The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of two-dimensional craniometric landmarks obtained from three-dimensional cone beam computed tomography reconstructions for forensic identification of humans. Computed tomography images with voxel sizes of 0.

The oil and gas industry plays a vital role in the global economy. The production process has several critical conditions and can expose metals to corrosion. Surfactants like the quaternary ammonium salt Benzyldimethyldodecylammonium Bromide (BDAC) are currently used to prevent corrosions; classical methods for determining these surfactants have problems in saline samples and usually present high costs.

This study analyzes the volume and quality of online news content on syphilis in Brazil between 2015 and 2019 and examines its effect on testing.
Methods: The collection and processing of online news were automated by means of a proprietary digital health ecosystem established for the study.
Objective: Postoperative C5 palsy (C5P) is a known complication in cervical spine surgery. However, its exact pathophysiology is unclear. The authors aimed to provide a review of the current understanding of C5P by performing a comprehensive, systematic review of the existing literature and conducting a critical appraisal of existing evidence to determine the risk factors of C5P.

Methods: We surveyed all accredited neurosurgery programs in the United States regarding the PGY7 residents' primary role and the availability of enfolded fellowships.
Purpose: To investigate the accuracy of cutoff values of the morning serum cortisol (MSC) using the cortisol stimulus test (CST) insulin tolerance test (ITT) and 250 mcg short Synacthen test (SST) as the reference standard tests, to better define its clinical role as a tool in the diagnostic investigation of adrenal insufficiency (AI) AI.
Methods: An observational study was conducted with a retrospective analysis of MSC in adult patients who had been submitted to a CST to investigate AI between January 2014 and December 2020. The normal cortisol response (NR) to stimulation was defined based on the cortisol assay.
Background: Although published data support the utilization of circumferential fusion to treat select cervical spine pathologies, it is unclear whether the posterior-anterior-posterior (PAP) fusion has increased risks compared with the anterior-posterior fusion.
Objective: To evaluate the differences in perioperative complications between the 2 circumferential cervical fusion approaches.
Methods: One hundred fifty-three consecutive adult patients who underwent single-staged circumferential cervical fusion for degenerative pathologies from 2010 to 2021 were retrospectively reviewed.

Composite pheochromocytoma (CP) is a very rare tumor originating from neural crest cells, predominantly composed of pheochromocytoma (PCC), a chromaffin cell tumor arising in adrenal medulla, and ganglioneuroma, a tumor derived from autonomic ganglion cells of the nervous system. Moreover, CP may be present in the hereditary syndromes of which pheochromocytoma is part. Literature offers scarce data on this subject, and particularly about its biological behavior, clinical evolution, and molecular profile.

In fact, the largest series on 4-level or 5-level ACDF focused specifically on the swallowing outcomes.
Objective: To assess nonunion after 4 to 5-level ACDF.
The present experiment investigated the effects of 1) repeated exposures to escalating punishment intensities and 2) repeated exposure to punishment after periods of vacation on response allocation between punished and unpunished responding in three groups of rats. The first group (intensity + vacation) experienced repeated exposures to escalating punishment intensities after a period of vacation (i.e.
