The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has dramatically changed the world over the past weeks, with already 8,25 million infections and 445,000 deaths worldwide, leading to an unprecedented international global effort to contain the virus and prevent its spread. The emergence of novel respiratory viruses such as the SARS-CoV-2 creates dramatic challenges to the healthcare services, including surgical pathology laboratories, despite their extensive daily experience in dealing with biological and chemical hazards. Background: Five main genes are associated with hemochromatosis; however, current studies show that, in addition to these genes, others may be associated with primary iron overload (IO). One of these is the bone morphogenetic protein 6 (BMP6), which encodes a protein that modulates hepcidin synthesis and, consequently, iron homeostasis.

Introduction: Recently, kinematic analysis of the drinking task (DRINK) has been recommended to assess the quality of upper limb (UL) movement after stroke, but the accomplishment of this task may become difficult for poststroke patients with hand impairment. Therefore, it is necessary to study ADLs that involve a simpler interaction with a daily life target, such as the turning on a light task (LIGHT). As the knowledge of movement performed by healthy adults becomes essential to assess the quality of movement of poststroke patients, the main goal of this article was to compare the kinematic strategies used by healthy adults in LIGHT with those that are used in DRINK.

We propose a respiratory activity surrogate extracted from wrist-worn reflective photoplethysmography validated on a heterogeneous dataset of 389 sleep recordings.
Approach: The surrogate was extracted by interpolating the amplitude of the PPG pulses after evaluation of pulse morphological quality.
Improved reproductive efficiency could lead to economic benefits for the beef industry, once the intensive selection pressure has led to a decreased fertility. However, several factors limit our understanding of fertility traits, including genetic differences between populations and statistical limitations. Upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors are considered to be a sustainable and well-established technology for sewage treatment in warm climate countries. However, gases dissolved in the effluent of these reactors, CH and HS in some instances, are a major drawback. These dissolved gases can be emitted into the atmosphere downstream of the anaerobic reactors, resulting in odour nuisance and, in the case of HS, corrosion, while in the case of CH, increasing greenhouse gas emissions with a significant loss of potentially recoverable energy.

Methods: We applied a previously designed algorithm for automatic sleep staging using long short-term memory recurrent neural networks to model sleep architecture. The classifier uses 132 HRV features computed from electrocardiography and activity counts from accelerometry.
Background: Many fish taxa produce sound in voluntary and in disturbance contexts but information on the full acoustic repertoire is lacking for most species. Yet, this knowledge is critical to enable monitoring fish populations in nature through acoustic monitoring.
Methods: In this study we characterized the sounds emitted during disturbance and voluntary contexts by juvenile and adult meagre, , in laboratory conditions.
