Objective: People with disabilities continue to cope with high levels of stress, such as disability-related stress and sociopolitical stress. Helping people with disabilities engage in regular physical activity to improve health and reduce stress is more important than ever. This study evaluated demographic covariates, the health action process approach (HAPA) constructs (action self-efficacy, outcome expectancy, risk perception, intention/commitment, maintenance and recovery self-efficacy, and action and coping planning), and positive person-environment variables (autonomous motivation, resilience, hope, and social support) as motivators for regular physical activity in a sample of people with disabilities.

Background: Research investigating the implicit bias of employers towards individuals with disabilities emphasizes the importance of increased attention to implicit bias in the workplace. Previous research supports the use of trainings to promote awareness and education of implicit and explicit bias toward people with disabilities among employers.

Objective: The purpose of the current study was to better understand employers' stigmatizing attitudes toward individuals with disabilities and develop effective strategies to increase awareness and knowledge related to these negative attitudes.

Purpose: The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and postpandemic era have significantly impacted the physical, mental, and social health (global health) of people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Extensive evidence highlights the positive relationships among global health, employment, and subjective well-being. For rehabilitation psychologists and health professionals serving individuals with MS, it is crucial to incorporate a global health measure into their assessment toolkit.

Background: Placement of a temporary pacemaker is a vital skill in the emergency setting in patients that present with life-threatening bradycardia. Transvenous pacing is the definitive method of stabilizing the arrhythmia compared to transcutaneous pacing, as it provides more comfort and better control of heart rate, until the insertion of a permanent pacemaker.

Case Report: In this case report, we describe the steps using TEE to guide the insertion of transvenous pacer at the emergency department.

Background And Purpose: Drug-drug interaction (DDI) assessment is an important role that pharmacists have in practice. Students often struggle with this complex clinical reasoning skill. TLC-Act is a tool that was created to mirror the steps and clinical checkpoints that pharmacists complete when assessing DDIs.

Background: Superior vena cava syndrome (SVCS) is a malignancy-related emergency. It is caused by obstruction of blood flow in the superior vena cava (SVC) secondary to intraluminal thrombosis, external compression, or direct invasion of tumor.

Case Summary: A 49-year-old male presented to the emergency department (ED) with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure.

Background: People with multiple sclerosis (MS) have been coping with high levels of stress during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, affecting their employment, physical, and mental health, and overall life satisfaction.

Objective: This study evaluated constructs of the stress-appraisal-coping theory and positive person-environment factors as predictors of subjective well-being for adults with MS.

Method: Participants included 477 adults with MS recruited through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Introduction: There has been an increasing interest in embedding patients' voices in the education of healthcare professionals. The purpose of this study was to conduct an environmental scan of entry to practice doctor of pharmacy (E2P PharmD) programs in Canada to determine to what extent pharmacy educators in Canada incorporate real patient voices in course delivery.

Methods: A web-based survey was distributed to an estimated total number of 750 pharmacy educators at eight Canadian English-speaking E2P PharmD programs.

Background And Purpose: Designed to address the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada's competency "teach pharmacy team members, the public, and other health care professionals," the PHArmacy Students as Educators (PHASE) program was developed by the institute's entry-to-practice doctor of pharmacy program. The program's objective was to support students in developing the necessary skills to fulfill their role as pharmacist-educators.

Educational Activity And Setting: We performed a two-year pilot (2017-2019) of the PHASE program which consists of a large-group didactic session followed by an academic half-day (AHD) session.

Background: Subglottic secretion had been proven as one of the causes of microaspiration and increased risk of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). The role of ultrasound to detect subglottic secretion has not yet been established.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the sensitivity and specificity of upper airway ultrasound (US) in the detection of subglottic secretions as compared to computed tomography (CT) scanning.

Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder with a growing prevalence of sleep problems associated with significant behavioral problems and more severe autism clinical presentation. Little is known about the relationships between autism traits and sleep problems in Hong Kong. Therefore, this study aimed to examine whether children with autism have increased sleep problems than non-autistic children in Hong Kong.

Bronchospasm is caused by reversible constriction of the smooth muscles of the bronchial tree. This causes obstruction of the lower airways, which is commonly seen at the emergency department (ED) in patients with acute exacerbation of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Ventilation may be difficult in mechanically intubated patients with severe bronchospasm due to airflow limitation, air trapping, and high airway resistance.

Background: The choice of correct interface for the right patient is crucial for the success of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) therapy. Helmet CPAP is a type of interface used to deliver NIV. Helmet CPAP improves oxygenation by keeping the airway open throughout the breathing cycle with positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP).

Article Synopsis
  • Virtual Patient (VP) cases help students utilize their classroom knowledge and enhance clinical skills, but it's unclear if they promote self-regulated learning (SRL) through repeated exposure.
  • An online survey was conducted with 211 second-year students before and after they engaged with three VP cases, focusing on how they planned and reflected on their patient care approach.
  • Pre-case responses showed a need for structured strategies in patient care, while post-case reflections highlighted gaps in their medical knowledge, indicating VPs could help students recognize their learning needs, though further research is necessary.

Background: Mediastinal mass is an entity with variable pathology and clinical spectrum. Anterior mediastinal mass can result in severe symptoms due to involvement of surrounding vital structures such as the great vessels, trachea-bronchial tree, and heart. We highlight a case of cardiac tamponade in a patient with an anterior mediastinal mass that was paradoxically worsened after decompressive pericardiocentesis.

Background: Research has demonstrated the effectiveness of peer support specialists in helping people with severe mental illness increase community tenure, decrease hospitalization, boost treatment satisfaction, improve social functioning, and increase quality of life.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate positive organizational psychology constructs as serial multiple mediators of the relationships between perceived organizational support and job satisfaction among peer support specialists.

Methods: One hundred and twenty-one peer support specialists from the Texas statewide peer certification training programs and the National Association of Peer Supporters participated in the present study.

Background: Cardiac tamponade occurs when fluid or blood, fills the pericardial space, and causes hemodynamic compromise due to compression of the heart. It is a potentially life-threatening condition, that requires rapid recognition and immediate treatment. Formerly, blind or surgical techniques were used, and it is associated with complications.

As foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) can be life-threatening, it has to be promptly diagnosed and treated. We report a case series of three patients presenting to the emergency department with cardiac arrest due to FBAO. In each case, ventilation was difficult due to high airway resistance.

Emerging evidence indicates a major impact for the tumor microenvironment (TME) and immune escape in the pathogenesis and clinical course of classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL). We used gene expression profiling (n = 88), CIBERSORT, and multiplex immunohistochemistry (n = 131) to characterize the immunoprofile of cHL TME and correlated the findings with survival. Gene expression analysis divided tumors into subgroups with T cell-inflamed and -noninflamed TME.
