Objective: Cutaneous ulcerative skin lesions in a complex of invasive Gulf of Mexico lionfish (Red Lionfish Pterois volitans, Devil Firefish P. miles, and the hybrid Red Lionfish × Devil Firefish) became epizootic beginning in mid-August 2017. Herein, we provide the first pathological descriptions of these lesions and summarize our analyses to elucidate the etiology of the disease.

We study 10 years (1995-2004 inclusive) of auroral kilometric radiation (AKR) radio emission data from the Wind spacecraft to examine the link between AKR and terrestrial substorms. We use substorm lists based on parameters including ground magnetometer signatures and geosynchronous particle injections as a basis for superposed epoch analyses of the AKR data. The results for each list show a similar, clear response of the AKR power around substorm onset.

Design: This is a prospective cohort study. Baseline questionnaire (January 2006-April 2009) data from the Sax Institute's 45 and Up Study were linked to hospitalisation and mortality data (to 30 June 2016) in a time-to-event analysis, treating death as a censoring event.
Despite the devastating impact of the lionfish (Pterois volitans) invasion on NW Atlantic ecosystems, little genetic information about the invasion process is available. We applied Genotyping by Sequencing techniques to identify 1,220 single nucleotide polymorphic sites (SNPs) from 162 lionfish samples collected between 2013 and 2015 from two areas chronologically identified as the first and last invaded areas in US waters: the east coast of Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. We used population genomic analyses, including phylogenetic reconstruction, Bayesian clustering, genetic distances, Discriminant Analyses of Principal Components, and coalescence simulations for detection of outlier SNPs, to understand genetic trends relevant to the lionfish's long-term persistence.

Three non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (diclofenac [dic], ibuprofen [ibu], and naproxen [nap]) were intercalated into LGdH-Cl for the first time, using three different routes (ion exchange intercalation, coprecipitation, and exfoliation-self-assembly). X-ray diffraction, elemental microanalysis and IR spectroscopy confirmed successful incorporation of the drug into the interlayer spaces of the LGdH in all cases.

Its structure comprises positively charged [Lu4O(OH)9(H2O)3](+) layers with exchangeable charge balancing iodide anions located in the interlayer gallery. It has been found to undergo facile anion exchange reactions with dicarboxylate anions such as succinate and terephthalate at room temperature but reacts less readily with disulfonate anions such as 1,5- and 2,6-naphthalenedisulfonate under the same conditions.

The azo reduction peak in differential pulse cathodic stripping voltammograms of the 2,3-dichloroquinoxaline reactive dye, Reactive Red 41, and in those of its hydrolysis product are sufficiently separated for the hydrolysis of Reactive Red 41 to be followed using the heights of these peaks. In the case of the 1,4-dichlorophthalazine reactive dye, Reactive Red 96, the azo peaks of the reactive and hydrolysed dyes are too close to be used to monitor the hydrolysis reaction, but peaks associated with reduction of the 1,4-dichlorophthalazine group are present which could be used to monitor the hydrolysis of Reactive Red 96.

In the present study, the role of the prelimbic cortex in persistent responding maintained by the earned presentations of a drug-paired conditioned reinforcer was studied.
