This systematic review evaluates the impact of trauma care and emergency preparedness training programs on prehospital primary survey effectiveness. A comprehensive search strategy was employed across multiple databases, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and the Cumulated Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), focusing on studies involving healthcare professionals such as paramedics, nurses, and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). The review included randomized controlled trials (RCTs), clinical trials, and cohort studies that assessed various training modalities like virtual reality (VR) simulations, case-based learning (CBL), and hands-on workshops.

Article Synopsis
  • Neurosarcoidosis is a rare form of sarcoidosis that affects the nervous system, leading to symptoms like seizures, cognitive issues, and cranial nerve problems, which complicate diagnosis and management due to their variability.
  • Diagnosing the condition requires a mix of clinical assessments, advanced imaging (like high-resolution MRI and PET scans), and lab tests, but it can be mistaken for conditions like multiple sclerosis.
  • Treatment often starts with corticosteroids and may include immunosuppressants or biologic therapies for more severe cases, with ongoing research aimed at better understanding the disease and improving therapies through biomarkers and innovative technologies.

The condition may go unrecognized on prenatal imaging and present during adolescence and young adulthood with cough, chest pain, shortness of breath, and recurrent pneumonia. However, some patients may remain asymptomatic until later adulthood and be diagnosed based on incidental imaging findings.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) can invade locally through the renal vein and into the inferior vena cava (IVC) with tumor-thrombus formation reported in 5%-15% of patients. From the IVC, RCC can grow intravascularly and extend into the right atrium. We present a rare case with two uncommon findings: tumor-thrombus extension leading to a right atrial mass and initial presentation of RCC as heart failure.
