However, such engagement can involve exchanges of diverse individual experiences, multiple opinions, and strong feelings in the face of researchers' limitations, deadlines, and agendas. Objectives: A relatively small proportion of children with asthma account for an outsized proportion of health care use. Our goal was to use quality improvement methodology to reduce repeat emergency department (ED) and inpatient care for patients with frequent asthma-related hospitalization.

Methods: Children ages 2 to 17 with ≥3 asthma-related hospitalizations in the previous year who received primary care at 3 in-network clinics were eligible to receive a bundle of 4 services including (1) a high-risk asthma screener and tailored education, (2) referral to a clinic-based asthma community health worker program, (3) facilitated discharge medication filling, and (4) expedited follow-up with an allergy or pulmonology specialist.

A rapid, high-yielding microwave-mediated synthetic procedure was developed and optimized using a model system of monovalent sugar linkers, with the ultimate goal of using this method for the synthesis of multivalent glycoclusters. The reaction occurs between the aldehyde/ketone on the sugars and an aminooxy moiety on the linker/trivalent core molecules used in this study, yielding acid-stable oxime linkages in the products and was carried out using equimolar quantities of reactants under mild aqueous conditions. Because the reaction is chemoselective, sugars can be incorporated without the use of protecting groups and the reactions can be completed in as little as 30 min in the microwave.

Guanine nucleotide and Mg2+ ion regulation of [125I-Tyr10]monoiodoglucagon ([125I]MIG) binding to liver plasma membranes from chicken, rat, and rabbit was studied. It was found that [125I]MIG binding to chicken liver membranes was increased by the addition of Mg2+ ion, while binding to rat and rabbit liver membranes was unaffected. In the chicken liver membranes, the Mg2+ ion induced high affinity binding which was sensitive to guanine nucleotides, while the low affinity binding in the absence of Mg2+ ion was not.

A series of six 2,4-diaminoquinazoline analogues of folic acid which bear close structural resemblance to methotrexate, 1a, were synthesized by unequivocal routes. Three of these have not been described previously, while complete structural characterization of the remaining compounds is presented for the first time. Each of the compounds was a potent inhibitor of dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) from rat liver or L1210 leukemia cells having I50 values in a range similar to that of 1a.

Treatment of MDCK cells with glucagon results in decreases in glucagon, NaF and prostaglandin E1-stimulated adenylyl cyclase activities, indicating the occurrence of a heterologous desensitization process. The extent of desensitization was time and glucagon concentration dependent. Maximal desensitization (30-50% decrease in stimulation by various effectors) was obtained by 4 h at 100 nM glucagon.

The absolute orientation of the flagellar apparatus in green algal motile cells is a feature of considerable value in studies of green algal systematics and phylogeny. The absolute orientation patterns found in those algae for which this feature is known or can be deduced are reviewed. Counterclockwise absolute orientation occurs in all classes except the Chlorophyceae and is considered primitive, while the clockwise absolute orientation present in most members of the Chlorophyceae is the result of progressive clockwise rotation of components during evolution.

The effects of N6,O2-dibutyryl-adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate (Bt2cAMP) and sodium fluoride on the phosphorylation of ribosomal proteins S6 and on protein synthesis were examined. Rabbit reticulocytes were incubated in a nutritional medium containing 32Pi in the presence and absence of Bt2cAMP (1mM) and 3-isobutyl-1-methyl-xanthine (1mM). In the control cells, four phosphorylated derivatives of S6 were observed, with most of the radioactivity in the monophosphorylated form.

A two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis procedure has been used to identify initiation factors rapidly in the high-salt-wash fraction from reticulocyte ribosomes. Initiation factors are identified by relative mobility and by co-electrophoresis with purified factors. A creatine phosphate/ATP/GTP/Pi exchange system is described which has been used to maintain [gamma-32P]ATP and [gamma-32P]GTP at constant specific activity in the cell-free protein-synthesizing system.
