Currently, artemisinin-based combination therapy is recommended as first-line treatment of uncomplicated malaria. Arylamino alcohols (AAAs) such as mefloquine (MQ) are the preferred partner drugs due to their longer half-life, reliable absorption and strong antimalarial activity. However, the mode of action of MQ remains poorly understood and its neurotoxicity limits its use.

Morphological analysis of ventricular septal defect by echocardiography for prediction of aortic regurgitation in pediatric population.

Ventricular septal defects (VSD) are the most common congenital heart diseases in children. Among them, perimembranous VSD (pm-VSD) have a higher risk of complications, including aortic valve prolapse and aortic regurgitation (AR). The aim of our study was to assess echocardiographic criteria associated with AR during follow-up of pm-VSD.

Incidence of Persistent Left Bundle Branch Block After Rapid-Deployment Aortic Valve Replacement.

Background: We evaluated the incidence, prognosis, and predictive factors of new onset of persistent left bundle branch block (NOP-LBBB) after rapid-deployment aortic valve replacement (RD-AVR).

Methods: This was an observational, retrospective, single-center study of 274 consecutive patients with no baseline ventricular conduction disorder and no previous permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) who underwent RD-AVR with an INTUITY valve (n = 55) or INTUITY Elite Valve (n = 219) (Edwards Lifesciences). Transthoracic echocardiography and 12-lead electrocardiography was performed preoperatively, at discharge, and at 1-month and 1-year intervals.
