Background: Intrathoracic migration of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) is a phenomenally rare complication, with the supradiaphragmatic intercostal variant even more so. Whereas it can prove debilitating or even fatal via massive hydrothorax, the causative mechanism and proper management of this occurrence are undefined.
Case Presentation: A 17-month-old girl who had undergone VPS insertion at one month of age was brought to our department for somnolence and dyspnea, which had a sudden onset.
Inflammation and oxidative stress are interrelated processes, during which many pathological processes lead to the reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the cytokines release. The aim of this experimental study was to analyse the effects of chlorogenic acid, in oral daily administration, against the oxidative stress and oedema development in experimental carrageenan-induced rat paw inflammation. The oxidative stress parameters were investigated after a paw inflammation was produced in rats that previoulsy received, for 14 days, either chlorogenic acid (100 mg/day or 150 mg/day) or indomethacin (1 mg/kg/day).

The study was undertaken to evaluate the cardioprotective potential of the flavonoids osajin and pomiferin against ischemia-reperfusion induced injury in rat hearts as a model of antioxidant-based composite therapy. Studies were performed with isolated, modified Langendorff-perfused rat hearts and ischemia of the heart was initiated by stopping the coronary flow for 30 min followed by 60 min of reperfusion (14 ml x min(-1)). Wistar rats were divided into four groups.

The goal of the study was to monitor the antioxidative effect of stobadine derivative in the conditions of ischemia-reperfusion of laboratory rat kidney tissue. The animals were divided by random selection into 5 groups (n = 10). The treated groups were given stobadine derivate in peroral doses of 5, 10 and 20 mg/kg in 0.

The goal of the study was to monitor the antioxidative effect of stobadine derivative under conditions of ischemia-reperfusion of laboratory rat kidney tissue. 40 animals were subjected to kidney tissue ischemia (60 min) followed by reperfusion (10 min). After that, the animals were divided by random selection into 4 groups (n = 10).
