Background And Objectives: To evaluate the changes in the size of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) lesion using spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in patients with treatment-resistant neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) who were switched from ranibizumab to aflibercept.

Materials And Methods: In this prospective case-series, 33 eyes of 30 patients with treatment-resistant neovascular AMD were included. Treatment-resistant neovascular AMD was defined as choriodal neovascularization secondary to AMD determined by subretinal fluid and/or intraretinal fluid/cysts after more than 6 months of monthly ranibizumab therapy.

Objective: To evaluate if a standardized combination therapy regimen, utilizing 3 monthly ranibizumab injections followed by navigated laser photocoagulation, reduces the number of total ranibizumab injections required for treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME).

Research Design And Methods: A 12-month, prospective comparison of 66 patients with center-involving DME: 34 patients with combination therapy were compared to 32 patients treated with ranibizumab monotherapy. All patients initially received 3 monthly ranibizumab injections (loading phase) and additional injections pro re nata (PRN).

Purpose: To assess β-zone peripapillary atrophy (β-PPA) using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO), and fundus auto-fluorescence (FAF) imaging in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma with advanced glaucomatous visual field defects.

Methods: A consecutive, prospective series of 82 study eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma were included in this study. All study participants underwent a full ophthalmic examination followed by SD-OCT, wide-field SLO, and FAF imaging of the optic nerve head and the peripapillary region.

Background: We wanted to determine whether multiple injections of intravitreal ranibizumab was associated with an elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients treated for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Methods: This retrospective study examined 53 patients with neovascular AMD treated with multiple injections of intravitreal ranibizumab. The main outcome measure was the difference in IOP between the frequently-treated study eyes (≥15 injections) and the unfrequently-treated fellow control eyes (≤ five injections).

Purpose: The aim of the study reported here was to evaluate characteristics of the anterior-segment via anterior-segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) and corneal biomechanical properties using an ocular response analyzer and their changes by peripheral laser iridotomy (PI) in patients with pigmentary glaucoma (PG).

Materials And Methods: Seventeen eyes with PG were included consecutively. AS-OCT and ocular response analyzer measurements were taken before and 3 months after PI.

Purpose: To evaluate wide-field fundus autofluorescence (FAF) in patients with uveitis with retinal or chorioretinal involvement.

Materials And Methods: We included 78 study eyes in this prospective study. Best-corrected visual acuity, a full clinical examination, wide-field green-light FAF and composite color, green and red laser separation fundus imaging with Optomap SLO were performed.

Purpose: To investigate the relationship between retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness and retinal pigment epithelium alterations in patients with advanced glaucomatous visual field defects.

Methods: A consecutive, prospective series of 82 study eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma and advanced glaucomatous visual field defects were included in this study. All study participants underwent a full ophthalmic examination followed by visual field testing with standard automated perimetry as well as spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) for peripapillary RNFL thickness and Optos wide-field fundus autofluorescence (FAF) images.

Purpose: To evaluate macular morphology and function in diabetic macular edema (DME) over the course of intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment with Ranibizumab.

Methods: A consecutive series of 39 study eyes with centre-involving DME were included in this study. In all subjects, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) according ETDRS protocol, fluorescein angiography (FA), microperimetric macular sensitivity (MP) and Spectral Domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) cross-sectional scans were obtained before treatment and after 3 monthly applied intravitreal Ranibizumab injections.

This study indicates that in addition to the significant improvement in visual acuity and reduction of central retinal thickness in patients with center-involving diabetic macular edema, intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment with Ranibizumab may also lead to a significant stabilization or even improvement of diabetic retinopathy.

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare clinical outcomes and retreatment rates using navigated macular laser versus conventional laser for the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME).

Methods: In this prospective, interventional pilot study, 46 eyes from 46 consecutive patients with DME were allocated to receive macular laser photocoagulation using navigated laser. Best corrected visual acuity and retreatment rate were evaluated for up to 12 months after treatment.

Background: The authors investigated the correlation of protan and tritan color vision with disease characteristics in Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON). The authors also characterized the therapeutic potential of idebenone in protecting patients from developing dyschromatopsia in LHON.

Methods: Color contrast data of 39 LHON patients participating in a randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled intervention study were evaluated.

Background: This study's objective was to optimize the visualization of three different spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) display modalities and evaluate enhanced depth imaging (EDI) by comparing the maximum depth of assessment in conventional versus inverted cross-sectional OCT images in healthy subjects and in patients with retinal pigment epithelial detachment (PED).

Methods: Cross-sectional SD-OCT conventional and inverted images were obtained with the HRA2 (Heidelberg Retina Angiograph II, Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany). Horizontal as well as vertical sections in three different display modes were blinded for evaluation by three independent, experienced graders for maximal imaging depth of the deep ocular fundus layers.

Objective: To compare the diagnostic properties of a nonmydriatic 200° ultra-widefield scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO) versus mydriatic Early Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) 7-field photography for diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening.

Research Design And Methods: A consecutive series of 212 eyes of 141 patients with different levels of DR were examined. Grading of DR and clinically significant macular edema (CSME) from mydriatic ETDRS 7-field stereo photography was compared with grading obtained by Optomap Panoramic 200 SLO images.

Aim: To investigate treatment-related pain and the accuracy of navigated laser photocoagulation in the treatment of clinically significant macular edema.

Methods: Focal laser treatment of diabetic macular edema in 54 consecutive patients was digitally planned on fundus images and performed using the navigated laser photocoagulation system Navilas(®) (OD-OS GmbH, Teltow, Germany). Treatment-related pain was quantified on a visual analog scale directly after treatment and compared with a matched control group who received conventional laser treatment (n = 46).

Background And Objectives: Detection of peripheral fundus autofluorescence (FAF) using conventional scanning laser ophthalmoscopes (SLOs) is difficult and requires pupil dilation. Here we evaluated the diagnostic properties of wide-field FAF detected by a two-laser wavelength wide-field SLO in uveitis patients.

Study Design/materials And Methods: Observational case series of four patients suffering from different types of posterior uveitis/chorioretinitis.
