Article Synopsis
  • Follicular unit hair extraction (FUE) is commonly used for hair restoration but struggles with scarred tissue, and stem cell therapy may enhance its effectiveness.
  • In a study with 60 patients, those who received stem cell therapy before FUE (Group A) had significantly better hair density and graft survival rates compared to those who did not (Group B).
  • Histological analyses indicated that Group A experienced improved tissue regeneration with more blood vessels and less scar tissue, leading to higher patient satisfaction scores.

The aim of the present study was to determine postprandial amino acid (AA) appearance in the blood of growing pigs as influenced by protein source. Seven growing pigs (average body weight 18 kg), in a 7 × 5 Youden square design, were fitted with a jugular vein catheter and fed seven diets containing wheat, soybean meal, enzyme-treated soybean meal, hydrothermally-treated rapeseed meal, casein, hydrolyzed casein, and a crystalline AA blend with the same AA profile as casein. The latter was not eaten by the pigs, therefore being excluded.

Both anemia and blood transfusion are now considered independent risk factors for poor outcome in colorectal cancer patients. Severe anemia can increase tumor aggressiveness and blood transfusion may induce immunosuppression and promote cancer recurrence. Specific Patient Blood Management (PBM) strategies for oncological surgical patients are insufficiently defined and recommended.

The risk of developing basal cell carcinoma (BCC) during lifetime varies between 29-55%, while for squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) varies between 7-11%. Between them, considered to be a BCC, there is a particular histological type, named metatypical basal cell carcinoma (MTC) or basosquamous cell carcinoma (BSCC). In this paper, we presented a rare case of metatypical carcinoma of the forehead with an interesting history of unexpected recurrences, underlining the clinical, therapeutic and histological essential aspects that may come in use to other clinicians in managing this type of cancer.

When considering breast reconstruction, two main decisions have to be made: optimal timing and appropriate reconstruction technique, that would best suit each patient, while also taking into consideration the complications and risks that these decisions might lead to. By careful patient selection and individualized breast reconstruction approach, the risks and complications of the procedure can be minimized, while attaining successful aesthetic outcomes and high patient satisfaction. Breast reconstruction can be performed in three different settings: immediate reconstruction - at the time of mastectomy; delayed reconstruction " after the completion of the adjuvant treatment and in a delayed-immediate setting that uses both previous methods" includes tissue expansion at the time of mastectomy and definitive reconstruction performed after completion of the adjuvant treatment.

Recently, the need for more secure identity verification systems has driven researchers to explore other sources of biometrics. This includes iris patterns, palm print, hand geometry, facial recognition, and movement patterns (hand motion, gait, and eye movements). Identity verification systems may benefit from the complexity of human movement that integrates multiple levels of control (neural, muscular, and kinematic).

Traditionally, repetitive practice of a task is used to learn a new skill, exhibiting as immediately improved performance. Research suggests, however, that a more experience-based rather than exposure-based training protocol may allow for better transference of the skill to related tasks. In synergy-based motor control theory, fundamental motor skills, such as hand grasping, are represented with a synergy subspace that captures essential motor patterns.

The polypropylene mesh, although is one of the most used prosthetic biomaterials for abdominal wall defects, proved not to be completely inert, generating from precocious foreign body inflammatory reactions (varying by individual reactivity, the amount of used material and its structure), to late complications such as chronic infections, stercoral fistulae or mesh migration. The present paper was aimed at studying the behavior of implants of this material in three different areas of the body of experimental animals, as follows: intramuscular, intraperitoneal and extraperitoneal. The observation time was 21 days and 90 days.

Introduction: The authors aimed to assess the histological differences between the traditional suction-assisted lipoplasty (SAL) and the more recently developed laser-assisted lipoplasty (LAL) aspirates, in a 20-case comparative study.

Patients And Methods: Between March of 2011 and March of 2012, we operated on 20 healthy female patients seeking body contouring procedures of the abdomen, flanks and outer thighs, all having good to moderate skin tone and moderate to heavy adipose deposits and no previous treatment of the interested areas. After initial aspiration of a 100 mL sample of fat tissue through the SAL technique, we applied the LAL protocol, using a Lipolite device with a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser, again sampling the aspirate for histological study.

In this paper we revisit the classic theory of forest succession that relates shade tolerance and species replacement and assess its validity to understand patch-mosaic patterns of forested ecosystems of the USA. We introduce a macroscopic parameter called the "shade tolerance index" and compare it to the classic continuum index in southern Wisconsin forests. We exemplify shade tolerance driven succession in White Pine-Eastern Hemlock forests using computer simulations and analyzing approximated chronosequence data from the USDA FIA forest inventory.
