Anterolateral augmentation procedures during anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions in skeletally immature patients: Scoping review of surgical techniques and outcomes.

Purpose: Graft failure rates after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) in children and adolescents are higher compared to adults. Anterolateral augmentation procedures have recently generated increased focus regarding their ability to reduce graft failure rates. Concerns in skeletally immatures are potential growth disturbances and overconstraint after anterolateral augmentation.

Strategies to optimize the information provision for parents of children with developmental dysplasia of the hip.

Aims: The aim of this study was to identify the information topics that should be addressed according to the parents of children with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in the diagnostic and treatment phase during the first year of life. Second, we explored parental recommendations to further optimize the information provision in DDH care.

Methods: A qualitative study with semi-structured interviews was conducted between September and December 2020.

Effect of the Sharrard procedure on hip instability in children with Down syndrome: a retrospective study.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze the effect of the Sharrard procedure on hip instability in children with Down syndrome (DS), as measured by the migration index.

Methods: In total, 17 children (21 hips) were included from six hospitals in the Netherlands between 2003 and 2019. The primary outcome, hip instability, was assessed with the Reimers' migration index on preoperative and postoperative plain anteroposterior pelvic radiographs.

Timing of Repeat Ultrasound Examination in Treatment of Stable Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip.

Background: Worldwide a wide variation exists in duration of Pavlik harness treatment for infants up to 6 months with stable developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether shortening the time to first routine follow-up ultrasound after initiation of Pavlik harness treatment would reduce treatment duration and whether this influenced radiologic outcome at 1 year of age. Furthermore, predictors of higher acetabular index (AI) at 1 year of age were investigated.

Pedi-IKDC or KOOS-child: which questionnaire should be used in children with knee disorders?

Background: The Pedi International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) child are validated questionnaires for children with knee disorders. The aim of this study was to translate these questionnaires in Dutch and to recommend which questionnaires should - based on their psychometric properties - be used in clinical practice.

Methods: The English Pedi-IKDC and KOOS-Child were translated by the forward-backward procedure.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip in children with Down syndrome: comparison of clinical and radiological examinations in a local cohort.

Guidelines for children with Down syndrome (DS) suggest to perform an annual hip screening to enable early detection of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). How to perform this screening is not described. Delayed detection can result in disabling osteoarthritis of the hip.

Ultrasound in the management of the position of the femoral head during treatment in a spica cast after reduction of hip dislocation in developmental dysplasia of the hip.

In this prospective study of 18 hips we compared the efficacy of ultrasound with CT in determining the position of the femoral head in a spica cast after closed or open reduction in children with developmental dysplasia of the hip. Ultrasound was performed through the perineal opening of the cast. With a transinguinal approach, the superior ramus of the pubis, the acetabulum, the femoral head and the femoral neck can be depicted in one plane.
