Optimization of hematite nanoparticles from natural ore as novel imaging agents: A Green Chemistry approach.

In this research, we propose an environmentally friendly method for producing hematite nanoparticles (H-NPs) from natural hematite ore, focusing on their application as efficient contrast agents in x-ray and computed tomography (CT) imaging for medical purposes. The process involves the reduction of iron oxide within the ore to attain the desired hematite phase, crucial for synthesizing H-NPs. To ensure sustainability, we adopted a Green Chemistry approach, utilizing a combination of carbon soot and limestone for the purification process, thereby achieving eco-conscious production.

Evaluation of the malaria elimination programme in Muara Enim Regency: a qualitative study from Indonesia.

Background: Malaria remains an enduring public health concern in Indonesia, exacerbated by its equatorial climate that fosters the proliferation of Anopheles mosquitoes. This study seeks to assess the performance of the malaria elimination programme comprehensively.

Methods: Between May and August 2022, a qualitative study was conducted in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province, involving 22 healthcare professionals from diverse backgrounds.

Introduction: Malaria is a significant public health concern in Indonesia. Muara Enim Regency is one of the districts in South Sumatra with the most important number of indigenous malaria cases in the last three years (2018-2020). Therefore, this study aimed to identify determinants of indigenous malaria in the Muara Enim Regency.

The current study focuses on microwave-assisted zinc oxide quantum dots synthesis (ZnO-QDs) from zinc oxide bionanocomposite (ZnO-BC) preparation. The novelty lies in the preparation of ZnO-QDs, since the natural elements present in ZnO-BC itself acted as a surface penetration enhancer without using any chemical agent. Under ultraviolet (UV) light ZnO-QDs emitted a blue glow, confirming the fluorescence property.

Objective: Dexamethasone is a known treatment for lymphoma, but the potency and rapidity of its effect have not been recognized. We present a case of bilateral adrenal lymphoma that significantly reduced in size after a single dose of dexamethasone.

Methods: We present the clinical course and investigations, including adrenocorticotropic hormone, cortisol, short synacthen test, computed tomography (CT), and adrenal biopsy results.

A rare cause of severe Cushing's syndrome.

Summary: Ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) production is an uncommon cause of Cushing's syndrome and, rarely, the source can be a phaeochromocytoma. A 55-year-old man presented following an episode of presumed gastroenteritis with vomiting and general malaise. Further episodes of diarrhoea, joint pains and palpitations followed.

Physical Exercise Increased Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor in Elderly Population with Depression.

Background: Depression is very common in the elderly population. Physical exercise is one of the non-pharmacological procedures that promise to be a solution to improve the severity of depression. Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) plays a role in maintaining the survival of neuronal cells and in the regulation of synapse plasticity, affecting serotonin production in the hippocampus and thus the depressive symptoms.

The Impact of Physical Exercise on Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) Level in Elderly Population.

Background: Memory function disorder is a major health problem in geriatric patients. Physical exercise has the potency to decrease the incidence of many degenerative and chronic health problem, related to cognitive deterioration (dementia).

Aim: This research aimed to observe the effect of physical exercise in various doses and duration on memory function by analysing the role of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) as a regulatory protein affected by exercise.

Bayesian hierarchical model for comparison of different nonlinear function and genetic parameter estimates of meat quails.

This study aimed to compare different nonlinear functions to describe the growth curve of European quails and to estimate growth curve parameters, (co)variance components, and genetic and systematic effects that affected the curve using a hierarchical Bayesian model that allows joint estimation. Three different models were fitted in the first stage (Gompertz, Logístic, and von Bertalanffy). The analyzed data set had 45,965 records of 6,838 meat quails selected for higher body weight at 42 d of age for 15 successive generations, weighed at birth, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, and 42 d of age.

Background: Appendiceal neuroendocrine neoplasms (ANEN) are mostly indolent tumours treated effectively with simple appendectomy. However, controversy exists regarding the necessity of oncologic right hemicolectomy (RH) in patients with histologic features suggestive of more aggressive disease. We assess the effects of current guidelines in selecting the surgical strategy (appendectomy or RH) for the management of ANEN.

Anaplastic Spindle Cell Squamous Carcinoma Arising from Tall Cell Variant Papillary Carcinoma of the Thyroid Gland: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Tall cell variant (TCV) of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), an aggressive form of thyroid cancer, is characterised by 50% of cells with height that is three times greater than the width. Very rarely, some of these cancers can progress to spindle cell squamous carcinoma (SCSC) resulting in cancers with elements of both SCSC and TCV PTC. Here we report a case of SCSC arising from TCV PTC.

Diagnostic Utility of Lymphoid Enhancer Binding Factor 1 Immunohistochemistry in Small B-Cell Lymphomas.

Objectives: Recent studies have shown that lymphoid enhancer binding factor 1 (LEF1) is a useful marker for chronic lymphocytic B-cell leukemia (CLL)/small lymphocytic lymphoma. Yet, it is not still being widely used in a diagnostic setting. In this study, we document the experience with LEF1 immunohistochemistry during routine diagnostics.

Influence of Modern Stormwater Management Practices on Transport of Road Salt to Surface Waters.

Application of road salts in regions with colder climates is leading to ground and surface water contamination. However, we know little about how modern stormwater management practices affect the movement of road salt through urban watersheds. We investigated groundwater contamination and transport of road salts at two stormwater ponds in Baltimore County, Maryland.

MicroRNAs associated with small bowel neuroendocrine tumours and their metastases.

Novel molecular analytes are needed in small bowel neuroendocrine tumours (SBNETs) to better determine disease aggressiveness and predict treatment response. In this study, we aimed to profile the global miRNome of SBNETs, and identify microRNAs (miRNAs) involved in tumour progression for use as potential biomarkers. Two independent miRNA profiling experiments were performed (n=90), including primary SBNETs (n=28), adjacent normal small bowel (NSB; n=14), matched lymph node (LN) metastases (n=24), normal LNs (n=7), normal liver (n=2) and liver metastases (n=15).

Immunosuppression during Leishmania donovani infection: a potential target for the development of therapy.

Dysfunction of T-helper 1 mediated immune responses is a hallmark of the progression of visceral leishmaniosis (VL). Several factors such as altered antigen presentation, and abnormalities in MHC/HLA, antigen processing, and T cell receptor recognition regulate the onset of immunosuppression. Recent investigations on VL patients suggest that susceptibility to visceral leishmaniosis is genetically determined and varies between populations in different geographical locations.

Planning a collaborative conference to provide interdisciplinary education with a focus on patient safety in obstetrics.

Collaboration is an important component of evidence-based practice in modern health care. A number of publications have touted the benefits of "team training" to improve obstetric outcomes during emergent situations. In August 2011, the Ohio sections of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) held a joint conference that focused on interdisciplinary education to promote patient safety.
