Objective: Blood glucose levels of the majority of Filipino patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) remain uncontrolled. Insulin degludec/insulin aspart (IDegAsp) is a fixed-ratio co-formulation of the long-acting basal insulin degludec and the rapidacting prandial insulin aspart. The real-world ARISE (A Ryzodeg Initiation and Switch Effectiveness) study investigated clinical outcomes across six countries in people with T2D who initiated IDegAsp.

COVID-19 increases the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) through a complex interplay of mechanisms collectively referred to as immunothrombosis. Limited data exist on VTE challenges in the acute setting throughout a dynamic long-term follow-up of COVID-19 patients compared to non-COVID-19 patients. The aim of the study was to investigate acute and long-term management and complications in VTE patients with and without COVID-19.

The significant impact of infections worldwide highlights the need to develop a prophylactic vaccine that elicits effective immunity and protects the host from the immunopathological effects of infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate a vaccine based on a fragment of the Polymorphic membrane protein D (FPmpD) of as an immunogen using a heterologous DNA prime-protein boost strategy in female mice Three different formulations were evaluated as protein boost: free recombinant FPmpD (rFPmpD) or rFPmpD formulated with a liposomal adjuvant alternatively supplemented with CpG or a cationic lipopeptide as immunostimulants. The three candidates induced an increase in the cervicovaginal and systemic titers of anti-rFPmpD antibodies in two strains of mice (BALB/c and C57BL/6), with no evidence of fertility alterations.

The COVID-19 pandemic remained worldwide for almost three years, but little is known about the dynamics of humoral immune response to the third dose over time and its protection from infection. Our aim was to assess the humoral immune response after the third dose of the different vaccines administered to SARS-CoV-2 naive and previously infected individuals, and its correlation with protection in an academic community. For each person studied (185), three blood samples were taken between December 2021 and July 2022, one month apart.

Introduction: To evaluate the ability of intestinal ultrasound (IUS) in discriminating symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease (SUDD) among patients with abdominal symptoms including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Methods: This observational, prospective study included consecutive patients classified into the following categories: (i) SUDD; (ii) IBS; (iii) unclassifiable abdominal symptoms; and (iv) controls, including asymptomatic healthy subjects and diverticulosis. The IUS evaluation of the sigmoid: assessed the presence of diverticula, thickness of the muscularis propria, and IUS-evoked pain, namely the intensity of pain evoked by compression with the ultrasound probe on sigmoid colon compared with an area of the left lower abdominal quadrant without underlying sigmoid colon.

This review article addresses the role of lung ultrasound in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) for diagnosis and disease management. As a simple imaging procedure, lung ultrasound contributes to the early identification of patients with clinical conditions suggestive of COVID-19, supports decisions about hospital admission and informs therapeutic strategy. It can be performed in various clinical settings (primary care facilities, emergency departments, hospital wards, intensive care units), but also in outpatient settings using portable devices.

Differently from computed tomography (CT), well-defined terminology for chest radiography (CXR) findings and standardized reporting in the setting of known or suspected COVID-19 are still lacking. We propose a revision of CXR major imaging findings in SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia derived from the comparison of CXR and CT, suggesting a precise and standardized terminology for CXR reporting. This description will consider asymptomatic patients, symptomatic patients, and patients with SARS-CoV-2-related pulmonary complications.

While lung ultrasonography (LUS) proved to be a useful diagnostic and prognostic tool in acute phase of COVID 19 pneumonia, its role in detecting long-term pulmonary sequelae has yet to be explored. In our prospective observational study we assessed the potential of LUS in detecting the presence of computed tomography (CT) fibrotic-like changes after 6 months from COVID-19 pneumonia. Patients who were discharged with a diagnosis of severe COVID-19 pneumonia were enrolled.

The diagnosis of colonic fistulae is crucial in defining the best therapeutic approach. Fistulae can be suspected from clinical history or specific symptoms, but imaging plays a key role in confirming the diagnosis. Previous studies described conventional studies with barium as methods of choice for the diagnosis; more recently intestinal ultrasound, CT and MR have been considered promising tests.

Stem blight is a major disease of blueberry caused by Botryosphaeriaceae fungi. Chemical and cultural management options are limited, putting emphasis on breeding efforts to identify sources of resistance. The efficacy and durability of host resistance could be impacted by the species composition of the pathogen population in a region and by the isolates employed in the screenings used to identify the resistance.

Objectives: Prone positioning allows to improve oxygenation and decrease mortality rate in COVID-19-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome (C-ARDS). However, the mechanisms leading to these effects are not fully understood. The aim of this study is to assess the physiologic effects of pronation by the means of CT scan and electrical impedance tomography (EIT).

Pulmonary parenchymal and vascular damage are frequently reported in COVID-19 patients and can be assessed with unenhanced chest computed tomography (CT), widely used as a triaging exam. Integrating clinical data, chest CT features, and CT-derived vascular metrics, we aimed to build a predictive model of in-hospital mortality using univariate analysis (Mann-Whitney test) and machine learning models (support vectors machines (SVM) and multilayer perceptrons (MLP)). Patients with RT-PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection and unenhanced chest CT performed on emergency department admission were included after retrieving their outcome (discharge or death), with an 85/15% training/test dataset split.

Introduction: Among the multiple complex pathophysiological mechanisms underlying COVID-19 pneumonia, immunothrombosis has been shown to play a key role. One of the most dangerous consequences of the prothrombotic imbalance is the increased incidence of micro- and macrothrombotic phenomena, especially deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).

Methods: We investigated the correlation between radiological and clinical-biochemical characteristics in a cohort of hospitalised COVID-19 patients.

The World Health Organization (WHO) undertook the development of a rapid guide on the use of chest imaging in the diagnosis and management of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The rapid guide was developed over 2 months by using standard WHO processes, except for the use of "rapid reviews" and online meetings of the panel. The evidence review was supplemented by a survey of stakeholders regarding their views on the acceptability, feasibility, impact on equity, and resource use of the relevant chest imaging modalities (chest radiography, chest CT, and lung US).
