The molecular structure of water is dynamic, with intermolecular hydrogen (H) bond interactions being modified by both electronic charge transfer and nuclear quantum effects (NQEs). Electronic charge transfer and NQEs potentially change under acidic or basic conditions, but such details have not been measured. In this work, we developed correlated vibrational spectroscopy, a symmetry-based method that separates interacting from noninteracting molecules in self- and cross-correlation spectra, giving access to previously inaccessible information.

Objective: Assessment of the reoperation rate in patients with positive resection margins after initial breast-conserving surgery for breast cancer and estimation of the cost to the hospital.

Method: 146 patients with diagnosis of invasive breast cancer were included, who were initially intervened with conservative surgery by the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service of Hospital Universitario de Tarragona Juan XXIII (HUTJ23) during the years 2018 and 2019. We calculated the rate of involvement of the surgical margins of the resection piece after initial conservative surgery, establishing in which cases it was necessary to carry out a second resection, estimating the added direct costs of the second surgical procedure, and comparing them with the costs established by the Catalan Health Service according to the level of the hospital and the Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRG) established by the National Health System.

The German Antibiotics Minimization Concept defines a farm-level benchmarking process based on half-yearly treatment frequencies that applies to six animal populations for fattening: calves (≤ 8 months), cattle (> 8 months), piglets (≤ 30 kg), pigs (> 30 kg), broiler chickens, and turkeys. The treatment frequency defined in the Minimization Concept takes into account the number of animals treated, the treatment duration, and the number of active antimicrobial ingredients, for each individual treatment, and is equivalent to a treatment frequency based on the used daily dose (UDD) and the actual weight of the animals at the time of treatment. With data from the German benchmarking system for the seven half-year periods from the second semester 2014 to the end of 2017, we compared UDD-based metrics of antimicrobial use (AMU) at the treatment and the farm level with metrics based on defined daily doses for animals (DDDvet) and standardized animal weights assumed at the time most likely for treatment.

In recent years, changes have occurred in consumption, ownership, and social relations, giving rise to new economic models in which technology enables new ways of connecting, creating, and sharing value. The nature of transport has transformed with the emergence of mobile applications, such as Uber and Cabify, which offer an alternative to the services traditionally provided by the taxi and chauffeur-driven hire vehicle (CDV) sectors. These services have developed within a context of market regulation of the taxi and CDV which are subject to considerable unjustified restrictions for entering and operating in the market, including the of licenses, the limited geographical scope of the license and, in the case of taxis, the regulation of prices as inflexible public rates.

For the photocatalytic degradation of antioxidant 2,6-di-tert-butyl-hydroxytoluene (BHT), several TiO-based composites have been prepared in MWCNT from titanium isopropoxide and ethanol via supercritical CO synthesis followed by calcination at 400 °C. TEM and XRD showed uniform coverage of CNT by 10 nm TiO particles in the anatase form, and spectral analyses revealed the formation of CNT/TiO structure. Further, synthesized material displayed significant visible light absorption and absorption edge shifted to longer wavelengths.

Introduction: The safety and efficacy of bintrafusp alfa, a first-in-class bifunctional fusion protein composed of the extracellular domain of the transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) receptor II (a TGF-β "trap") fused to a human immunoglobulin G1 antibody blocking programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1), was evaluated in patients with advanced NSCLC.

Methods: This expansion cohort of NCT02517398, an ongoing, phase 1, open-label trial, includes 80 patients with advanced NSCLC that progressed after platinum doublet therapy or after platinum-based adjuvant or neoadjuvant treatment and those who also have not received previous immunotherapy. Patients were randomized at a one-to-one ratio to receive either bintrafusp alfa 500 mg or the recommended phase 2 dosage of 1200 mg every 2 weeks.

Medication order accuracy checking is an integral and time-consuming component of the current Australian pharmacist's role. However, the pharmacy profession internationally has moved towards separating the checking task into two parts: a clinical check performed by the registered pharmacist and a technical accuracy check delegated to an appropriately trained pharmacy technician. This case study demonstrates that in an Australian hospital pharmacy context, appropriately trained pharmacy technicians have the potential to be more proficient and time efficient than pharmacists when undertaking accuracy checking of dispensed medications.
