Sustained Release Studies of Metformin Hydrochloride Drug Using Conducting Polymer/Gelatin-Based Composite Hydrogels.

The present work highlights the synthesis and characterization of conducting polymer (CP)-based composite hydrogels with gelatin (GL-B) for their application as drug delivery vehicles. The spectral, morphological, and rheological properties of the synthesized hydrogels were explored, and morphological studies confirmed formation of an intense interpenetrating network. Rheological measurements showed variation in the flow behavior with the type of conducting polymer.

Facile modular synthesis of jasmonoyl-l-isoleucine analogs possessing a pyrazolidin-3-one core.

A short and flexible route to pyrazolidin-3-one analogs of the phytohormone (+)-7-iso-jasmonoyl-l-isoleucine is presented. The compounds were assembled from four basic building blocks, namely a pyrazolidin-3-one core, alkyl chain, linker and amino ester or acid. The efficacy of this approach was demonstrated in the synthesis of 11 analogs with variations in all parts of the molecule.

(1) Ombrotrophic peat bogs provide valuable records of environmental change on long timescales but are rarely preserved near the major centers of industrial activity. Holcroft Moss is a rare example of a stratigraphically intact lowland peat bog in NW England, which provides a valuable opportunity to trace industrial impacts on vegetation in a sensitive environmental archive close to the early industrializing cities of Manchester and Liverpool. Background: Clavicle fractures are a common presentation to the emergency department after falls and sporting injuries. Methods: We conducted a double-blind, randomized controlled trial comparing ibuprofen 400 mg three times daily for 5 days with identical placebo in adults with uncomplicated cellulitis of the upper or lower limb who were treated with intravenous cefazolin via an outpatient parenteral antibiotic treatment service at one of two Australian hospitals.

A rare opportunity to test hypotheses about potential fishery benefits of large-scale closures was initiated in July 2004 when an additional 28.4% of the 348 000 km2 Great Barrier Reef (GBR) region of Queensland, Australia was closed to all fishing. Advice to the Australian and Queensland governments that supported this initiative predicted these additional closures would generate minimal (10%) initial reductions in both catch and landed value within the GBR area, with recovery of catches becoming apparent after three years.
