Automated Verification of Care Pathways Using Constraint Programming.

Bad construction of modeled care pathways can lead to satisfiability problems during the pathway execution. These problems can ultimately result in medical errors and need to be checked as formally as possible. Therefore, this study proposes a set of algorithms using a free open-source library dedicated to constraint programming allied with a DSL to encode and verify care pathways, checking four possible problems: states in deadlock, non-determinism, inaccessible steps and transitions with logically equivalent guard conditions.

Surgical treatment of testicular tumor and its difficult management with indigenous patient.

Case description of a male patient, 27 years old, native Brazilian, indigenous, deaf, with a significant growth of left testicle, painless, with infiltrations, insidious beginning and two years of evolution because of the difficulty of monitoring this type of population. Presented high serum level of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), up to 20 times higher than the maximum reference value. Ultrasound of the testis showed a complex mass on the left testicle, not being able to give an estimate of the volume.

Surgical treatment of kidney tumor on a patient with second case of staghorn calculus and associated renal hydronephrosis: case report.

Staghorn, struvite or coral calculus are the ones that completely or partially occupies the renal pelvis and branches to the renal calices. The presence of renal calculi of any kind in the urinary tracts is related to the appearing of malign tumor in the kidneys, especially in the absence or failed treatment. A male patient, 51 years old, native of Manaus, reports about dysuria and polyuria associated with constant fever episodes and urinary tract infections with improvement by using several antibiotics but returning the symptoms after suspending it.

Large verrucous penis cancer in a young patient in the Brazilian Amazon: Case report and discussion on the region's reality.

Introduction: Penile cancer is a rare malignant tumour top in urology, especially in developed countries or in a favourable cultural habit. However, in developing countries or with a low socio-economic population, the incidence increases considerably, as does the stage at which the patient arrives for the first care.

Case Presentation: Male patient, 20 years old, from the interior of Amazonas - Brazil, has been referred to a Urological Service in the Emergency Room due to a vegetative lesion of approximately 10 centimetres, with an ulcerated centre and irregular borders in penile glans.

Electronic spectra and intersystem spin-orbit coupling in 1,2- and 1,3-squaraines.

The main photophysical properties of a series of recently synthetized 1,2- and 1,3-squaraines, including absorption electronic spectra, singlet-triplet energy gaps, and spin-orbit matrix elements, have been investigated by means of density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT approaches. A benchmark of three exchange-correlation functionals has been performed in six different solvent environments. The investigated 1,2 squaraines have been found to possess two excited triplet states (T1 and T2) that lie below the energy of the excited singlet one (S1).

CD4+CD25+ T lymphocytes and regulation of the immune system: perspectives for a pathophysiological understanding of sepsis.

The systemic inflammatory response represents the core pathogenic event of sepsis, underlying clinical manifestations and laboratory findings in patients. Numerous studies have shown that CD4+CD25+ T lymphocytes, also known as regulatory T lymphocytes (Treg), participate in the development of sepsis due to their ability to suppress the immune response. The present article discusses the role of Treg lymphocytes in sepsis based on a specific search strategy (Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences / Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde - LILACS, PubMed, and Scientific Electronic Library Online - SciELO) focusing on two main topics: the participation of Treg cells in inflammation and immunity as well as perspectives in the computational physiological investigation of sepsis.

Behavioural evidence of sex-linked colour vision polymorphism in the squirrel monkey Saimiri ustus.

Squirrel monkeys, like most Neotropical primates, display a sex-linked colour vision polymorphism. Here we assess the colour perception of 8 Saimiri ustus by a behavioural paradigm using Munsell colour chips as discriminating stimuli. A random variation in brightness assured that discriminations were based on colour rather than brightness cues.
