Background: Trials evaluating the effectiveness of topical treatments for actinic cheilitis (AC) are scarce. Despite no comparative data, phenol-croton peeling has been reported as effective in treating this condition.
Methods: An open, randomized trial was conducted to compare the effectiveness and tolerability of 1.
Condyloma acuminata (CA) is a benign proliferative disease mainly affecting in non-keratinized epithelia. Most cases of CA are caused by low-risk human papillomavirus (HPV), mainly HPV 6 and 11. The aim of the current study was to highlight the candidate genes and pathways associated with immune alterations in individuals who did not spontaneously eliminate the virus and, thus, develop genital warts.

Among these ectopic tumors, there are a group of purely intraosseous meningiomas, which usually are diagnosed differentially from common primary osseous tumor such as fibrous dysplasia and osteoid osteoma.
Case Description: We report a 62-year-old female with a history of headaches and 6 months of progressive right parietal bulging, with no neurological signs.
Purpose: We evaluated the utility of 10-, 12-, and 16-core prostate biopsies for detecting prostate cancer (PCa) and correlated the results with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, prostate volumes, Gleason scores, and detection rates of high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN) and atypical small acinar proliferation (ASAP).
Materials And Methods: A prospective controlled study was conducted in 354 consecutive patients with various indications for prostate biopsy. Sixteen-core biopsy specimens were obtained from 351 patients.
Background & Objectives: Galectin-3 a member of the galectin family is an endogenous β-galactoside binding lectin. It has been found to be associated with cell adhesion, recognition, proliferation, differentiation, immunomodulation, angiogenesis, apoptosis and can be a reliable marker for cancer aggressiveness. The aim of this study was to verify protein expression in gastric adenocarcinoma tissues and correlate the results with the clinical aspects in the study population.

Materials And Methods: A total of 230 cervical biopsies in paraffin-embedded blocks were studied: 43 were invasive squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), 52 carcinomas in situ/cervical intraepithelial neoplasias III (CIN III), 54 cervical intraepithelial neoplasias II (CIN II), 51 cervical intraepithelial neoplasias I (CIN I) and 30 non-neoplastic lesions (NN) with benign cellular changes.
Results: Significant differences were observed in the p53 expression between the different groups: NN and CIN I (p=0.
Purpose: To investigate the effects of alloxan diabetes on the abdominal wall healing of rats undergoing laparotomy.
Methods: Ninety-six male Wistar rats weighing between 200 and 300 grams, divided into two groups: non-diabetic group (G1) and another with untreated diabetes (G2). Three months after diabetes induction, the animals underwent a 5cm-long- laparotomy and 5.
Heat shock proteins are molecular chaperones that may be constitutively present in cells protecting them from various stresses, such as extreme temperature, anoxia or chemical agents. Cervical cancer is the second most prevalent malignancy of women. In this study, we analyzed the expression of Hsp27 by immunohistochemistry in cervical intraepithelial lesions of Brazilian women, along with samples from non neoplasic lesions (NN).

Methods: Forty Sprague-Dawley male rats were randomly distributed into four groups: Group 1 (Clinical control, n = 10); Group 2 (0.5% Ethylene Glycol + Vitamin D3, n = 10); Group 3 (1.
Spindle cell lipoma (SCL) is a benign lipomatous tumor predominantly occurring at the posterior neck and shoulder area. Face, forehead, scalp, cheek, perioral area, and upper arm are less common sites. In oral cavity, it is a relatively uncommon neoplasm, particularly in tongue, which is relatively devoid of fat cells.

Objective: To analyze NM23 expression and its association with the presence of lymph node and liver metastases and survival in patients operated on for colorectal carcinoma.
Methods: One hundred thirty patients operated on for colorectal carcinoma were investigated.
Introduction: Galectin-3 is an endogenous galactose-binding protein that is expressed in a wide range of normal and neoplasic tissues and is thought to be involved in cellular adhesion, growth regulation, and apoptosis. Galectin-3 seems to have an important role in colorectal cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the immunoexpression of galectin-3 in patients with colorectal cancer under surgery and chemotherapy treatment and the relationship of galectin-3 expression and clinical aspects or tumor evolution.

Purpose: To analyze the expression of metalloproteinase-1, metalloproteinase-7 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in colorectal adenocarcinoma, and to correlate these with the clinical-pathological prognostic factors.
Methods: Tumor tissue from 82 patients was fixed in formalin and embedded in paraffin blocks. These samples were analyzed by means of the streptavidin-biotin immunohistochemical method, using the tissue microarray technique.

The inhibitors of apoptosis proteins (IAPs) act by directly blocking cleaved caspase-3 (XIAP) or the protein SMAC/DIABLO, an antagonist. The inhibition of XIAP activity or the increase of SMAC activity might improve the therapeutic response of the patients. This work evaluated the immunoexpression of IAPs and SMAC in colorectal carcinoma and their correlation with apoptotic index (AI), cellular proliferation, p53 protein immunoexpression and patient survival rate.

In order to analyze the canonical and noncanonical Wnt pathway in normal ovary, benign ovarian tumor and ovarian cancer, we evaluated the immunohistochemical expression of Wnt1, Frizzled-1 (FZD1), Wnt5a, Frizzled-5 (FZD5) and beta-catenin.
