Sleep disturbance is common during recovery after surgical procedures and may have an important effect on mortality, and quality of life. Sleep restriction/deprivation, including decreased quantity and continuity, is common in patients who are patients and persons with acute and chronic illnesses. Age, gender, illness, primary sleep disorders, environment, and medical treatment factors are thought to influence sleep throughout the preoperative period, hospitalization, and recovery.

The fear and uncertainty caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, threats to survival are one of the main problems of everyday life; however, mental health care must also be considered a priority. During social isolation also called self-quarantine, the restricted mobility and social contact, concern about financial resources and availability of supplies, fear of infection, questions about the duration of self-quarantine, cause anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia and reduced the quality and quantity of sleep, that may present a greater risk to the health of the general population. Sleep disorders are increasingly becoming a major health issue in modern society, and are influenced by retinal stimulation by electronic devices, as well extended and/or night shift-work, which may aggravate the systemic and lung inflammation during viral infections.

Background: PnPa11 and PnPa13 are synthetic peptides derived from spider venom, which display antinociceptive and neuroprotective properties. In this work, we evaluated the safety of intravitreal use and the neuroprotective effect of these peptides.

Methods: The cytotoxicity and the antiangiogenic activity of these peptides were evaluated by the sulforhodamine-B method and chicken chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay, respectively.

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and potential healing efficacy of the topical ocular administration of a gelatin membrane containing usnic acid/liposomes (UALs) for corneal cicatrization. UALs have shown healing activity in animal models of dermal burn lesions. We evaluated the safety of topical ocular administration of UAL and its potential healing efficacy as an ophthalmic treatment on chemical lesions in rabbit eyes.

Unlabelled: Rotating and permanent night shiftwork schedules typically result in acute and sometimes chronic sleep deprivation plus acute and sometimes chronic disruption of the circadian time structure. Immune system processes and functionalities are organized as circadian rhythms, and they are also strongly influenced by sleep status. Sleep is a vital behavioral state of living beings and a modulator of immune function and responsiveness.

Sleep is a physiological state and it is fundamental for physical and cognitive recovery of athletes. Due to strenuous training and competitions, athletes may present sleep complaints compromising good quality and quantity of sleep. Studies have related sleep debt to the occurrence of musculoskeletal injuries in athletes, but the mechanisms that can lead to this are not entirely clear.

Abstract: Since the beginning of the pandemic, the population has been exposed to a substantial period of social isolation, which leads to anxiety, fear, and metabolic and immune impairments.

Purpose: Considering that sleep restriction influences eating behavior, we highlight that changes in it may occur during the COVID-19 quarantine. Alterations in feeding time can uncouple the body clocks, leading to circadian misalignment and consequently to a disruption in homeostasis and disturbances in many metabolic functions.

Introduction: Chemical ocular burns are among the most frequently eye-related injuries, which require immediate and intensive evaluation and care since they may lead to potential complications such as superinfection, corneal perforation, and blindness.Vasconcellea cundinamarcensis, a species from Caricaceae family, contains highly active proteolytic enzymes in its latex that show healing activity in animal models bearing lesions of different etiologies.

Methods: We evaluate the ocular toxicity of the proteolytic fraction from V.

Some recent studies have shown that pirfenidone (PFD) has favorable results in the healing process of the cornea. However, PFD in solution exhibits short half-life after topical application, and in this context, a liquid crystal nanoparticle system containing PFD (PFD-LCNPs) was developed. The nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, small angle X-ray diffraction and polarized light microscopy.

Background: The great diversity of molecules found in spider venoms include amino acids, polyamines, proteins and peptides, among others. Some of these compounds can interact with different neuronal receptors and ion channels including those present in the ocular system. To study potential toxicity and safety of intravitreal injection in rabbits of LyeTx I b, a synthetic peptide derived from the toxin LyeTx I found in venom from the spider and to evaluate the angiogenic activity on a CAM model.

An increase in the europium emission band was observed, for the first time, with addition of urea hydrogen peroxide to the tetracycline-europium (Tc-Eu)solution. We have observed that the wavelength, the band width and the area of 5D0-->7F2 europium transition change with the urea hydrogen peroxide concentration. We claim that the tetracycline-europium complexes can be used as probes of urea hydrogen peroxide concentration.
