This paper is a functional guide to motorcycle helmet safety, assisting clinicians in promoting helmet use and treating patients with motorcycle-related injuries.

Germination responses to winter warm spells and warming vary widely among woody plants in a temperate forest.

Winter underpins key ecological processes, such as dormancy loss and seedling emergence. Enhanced warm spells, together with warming are occurring and will continue in the future. The consequences of these climate phenomena on germination were investigated among co-occurring woody plants, whose seeds are bird-dispersed in autumn and require cold stratification for spring emergence.

The perceived color of a region of visual space is a function not only of the spectral composition of the light incident from it, but also depends on the light incident from surrounding regions. The color contrast induced into a region is a result of lateral interactions between neural mechanisms. These interactions were studied by measuring the induced effect of circularly symmetric spatial sine-waves on a circular central test region.
