Purpose: To study characteristics and identify factors associated with full manuscript publication of oral abstracts presented at gynecologic surgery societies' annual meetings.

Study Design: We reviewed all oral abstracts presented at four major gynecologic surgery meetings in 2018. Oral abstracts subsequently published as peer-reviewed manuscripts were compared to those that were not published.

Patellofemoral Instability in the Pediatric and Adolescent Population: From Causes to Treatments.

Background: Patella instability is one of the most common knee injuries in the adolescent patient. There are several pathoanatomic risk factors which should be assessed via several modalities, including X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or even CT scan.

Objectives: We intend to review these risk factors along with the nonsurgical and surgical techniques used to prevent recurrent dislocations.

Community-Engaged Survey Approach to Pandemic Impacts on Marginalized Communities, Massachusetts, 2020-2021.

To describe how an innovative, community-engaged survey illuminated previously unmeasured pandemic inequities and informed health equity investments. The methodological approach of Massachusetts' COVID-19 Community Impact Survey, a cross-sectional online survey, was driven by key health equity principles: prioritizing community engagement, gathering granular and intersectional data, capturing root causes, elevating community voices, expediting analysis for timeliness, and creating data-to-action pathways. Data collection was deployed statewide in 11 languages from 2020 to 2021.

Environmental, economic, and social sustainability in aquaculture: the aquaculture performance indicators.

Aquaculture is a rapidly growing food production technology, but there are significant concerns related to its environmental impact and adverse social effects. We examine aquaculture outcomes in a three pillars of sustainability framework by analyzing data collected using the Aquaculture Performance Indicators. Using this approach, comparable data has been collected for 57 aquaculture systems worldwide on 88 metrics that measure social, economic, or environmental outcomes.

Pembrolizumab-induced nephrotoxicity in a patient with breast cancer.

The introduction of immunotherapy has revolutionized the treatment and improved outcomes of multiple types of cancer. Although breast cancer is a less immune-responsive tumor type, the incorporation of pembrolizumab into chemotherapy regimens in the neoadjuvant and first-line metastatic setting for the triple-negative disease has improved outcomes. However, the use of this type of treatment is associated with a spectrum of adverse events.

COVID-19 mortality among Massachusetts workers and the association with telework ability, 2020.

Background: Working outside the home put some workers at risk for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) exposure and might partly explain elevated coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) mortality rates in the first months of the pandemic in certain groups of Massachusetts workers. To further investigate this premise, we examined COVID-19 mortality among Massachusetts workers, with a specific focus on telework ability based on occupation.

Methods: COVID-19-associated deaths between January 1 and December 31, 2020 among Massachusetts residents aged 18-64 years were analyzed.

Fatal Occupational Asthma in Cannabis Production - Massachusetts, 2022.

Multiple respiratory hazards have been identified in the cannabis cultivation and production industry, in which occupational asthma and work-related exacerbation of preexisting asthma have been reported. An employee working in a Massachusetts cannabis cultivation and processing facility experienced progressively worsening work-associated respiratory symptoms, which culminated in a fatal asthma attack in January 2022. This report represents findings of an Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspection, which included a worksite exposure assessment, coworker and next-of-kin interviews, medical record reviews, and collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Oncotype DX Recurrence Score in premenopausal women.

In the past 20 years, clinicians have shifted away from relying solely on clinicopathologic indicators toward increasing use of multigene expression assays in guiding treatment decisions regarding adjuvant chemotherapy for early-stage hormone receptor (HR)-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. Oncotype DX Recurrence Score (RS) is one of the most widely used multigene assays when considering indications for adjuvant chemotherapy, and guidelines have recently incorporated its use in women with early HR-positive HER2-negative breast cancer and up to three positive lymph nodes. While multiple retrospective and prospective clinical studies have demonstrated that most women with a low- to mid-range RS (0-25) can safely forgo chemotherapy, premenopausal women remain an important subgroup for which recommendations based on RS are ill-defined.

Patellar Tendon Imbrication for Patella Alta.

Patella alta is a significant contributor to patellar instability. Historically, distalizing tibial tubercle osteotomy has been recommended for this problem; however, complications such as nonunion, fracture and hardware irritation are concerning. Additionally, the procedure cannot be performed on skeletally immature patients without violation of the proximal tibial physis.

Discoid Lateral Meniscus Saucerization and Treatment of Intrasubstance Degeneration Through an Accessory Medial Portal Using a Small Arthroscope.

Discoid lateral meniscus (DLM) is a rare meniscal variant characterized by an increased amount of meniscal tissue that resembles the shape of a disc as opposed to the typical crescent shape of the lateral meniscus. Surgical intervention is recommended for symptomatic DLM with persistent pain, mechanical symptoms, or motion impairment. The technique described is a reliable and reproducible method to identify and treat intrasubstance degeneration (ID) in the setting of DLM.

Antimalarial activity of 2,6-dibenzylidenecyclohexanone derivatives.

Malaria remains one of the deadliest infectious diseases worldwide and continues to infect hundreds of millions of individuals each year. Here we report the discovery and derivatization of a series of 2,6-dibenzylidenecyclohexanones targeting the chloroquine-sensitive 3D7 strain of Plasmodium falciparum . While the initial lead compound displayed significant toxicity in a human cell proliferation assay, we were able to identify a derivative with no detectable toxicity and sub-micromolar potency.

Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction and Lateral Retinacular Lengthening from a Lateral Approach.

The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is frequently torn and attenuated in patients with acute or chronic patellar instability. The mainstay for surgical treatment has become MPFL reconstruction to reestablish the checkrein to lateral patellar translation. The authors describe a technique for MPFL reconstruction with concomitant lateral retinacular lengthening with a gracilis allograft and adjustable loop cortical femoral fixation performed chiefly from a lateral parapatellar approach.

Crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus) susceptibility to acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND).

Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) is an OIE-listed enteric disease that has continued to plague the shrimp aquaculture industry since its first discovery in 2009. AHPND is one of the biggest disease threats to the shrimp aquaculture industry along with white spot disease (WSD) which has severely impacted both crayfish and shrimp aquaculture. AHPND is caused by specific marine Vibrio spp.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Employment Among Massachusetts Adults.

Occupational exposure may cause or exacerbate chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but employment may also enhance health and well-being for people with the disorder. We used self-reported data from the 2011-2017 Massachusetts Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System to examine COPD and employment among adults aged 40 to 70. Thirty-nine percent of adults with COPD were employed.

Evaluation of a recirculating hydroponic bed bioreactor for removal of contaminants of emerging concern from tertiary-treated wastewater effluent.

Tertiary-treated effluent from a municipal wastewater treatment plant in Tucson, AZ, was added to recirculating hydroponic bed bioreactors filled with light expanded clay aggregate (LECA) and recirculated for 10 days. Bioreactors were planted with high and low densities of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) and Bacillus thuringiensis cotton (Gossypium sp.).

Retroarticular Core Decompression with Biologic Augmentation for Juvenile Osteochondritis Dissecans of the Knee.

Juvenile osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) of the knee is a rare condition of subchondral bone that has secondary effects on articular cartilage as the condition advances. Traditional treatment for early-stage OCD involves different types of drilling procedures that work to stimulate healthy bone formation via creeping substitution. This article describes a technique that involves a complete removal, or decompression of an early-stage OCD, while preserving the overlying articular cartilage that is augmented with bone grafting and bone marrow aspirate concentrate.

Osteochondral Fracture Fixation With Fragment Preserving Suture Technique.

Osteochondral fractures are relatively uncommon injuries that typically present after an acute or subacute traumatic injury. Osteochondral fracture fixation is traditionally performed in the acute setting with internal fixation procedures using pins or compression screws through the fragment. Outcomes have generally been good, but cartilage thinning, subchondral remodeling, and tissue reactions can occur after internal fixation through the fragment.

Central Asia has delivered significant paleoanthropological discoveries in the past few years. New genetic data indicate that at least two archaic human species met and interbred with anatomically modern humans as they arrived into northern Central Asia. However, data are limited: known archaeological sites with lithic assemblages generally lack human fossils, and consequently identifying the archaeological signatures of different human groups, and the timing of their occupation, remains elusive.

Exploring Strategies to Increase and Sustain Membership in the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

The total numbers of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) in the United States and members of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) have risen to an all-time high. However, the percentage of CRNAs who are AANA members has been slowly declining since 2006, particularly among newly certified nurse anesthetists. To develop new strategies to increase and sustain CRNA membership, the AANA conducted a translational research project that explored evidence-based determinants of individuals' decisions to join professional associations, current membership practices and patterns, results of a recent member needs survey, and socialization of student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs) into the AANA.

A New Chronology for Rhafas, Northeast Morocco, Spanning the North African Middle Stone Age through to the Neolithic.

Archaeological sites in northern Africa provide a rich record of increasing importance for the origins of modern human behaviour and for understanding human dispersal out of Africa. However, the timing and nature of Palaeolithic human behaviour and dispersal across north-western Africa (the Maghreb), and their relationship to local environmental conditions, remain poorly understood. The cave of Rhafas (northeast Morocco) provides valuable chronological information about cultural changes in the Maghreb during the Palaeolithic due to its long stratified archaeological sequence comprising Middle Stone Age (MSA), Later Stone Age (LSA) and Neolithic occupation layers.

The effect of pH on phosphorus availability and speciation in an aquaponics nutrient solution.

The interaction between the main ions in aquaponics nutrient solutions affects chemical composition and availability of nutrients, and nutrient uptake by plant roots. This study determined the effect of pH on phosphorus (P) speciation and availability in an aquaponics nutrient solution and used Visual MINTEQ to simulate P species and P activity. In both experimental and simulated results, P availability decreased with increase in pH of aquaponics nutrient solutions.
