Background: Patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) undergoing proctocolectomy and ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) may eventually require biologic therapy. Factors associated with biologic therapy after IPAA have not been previously studied.
Methods: All patients with UC after total proctocolectomy and IPAA who were followed at Rabin Medical Center comprehensive pouch clinic and who consented to prospective observational follow-up were included.
The Radar for Europa Assessment and Sounding: Ocean to Near-surface (REASON) is a dual-frequency ice-penetrating radar (9 and 60 MHz) onboard the Europa Clipper mission. REASON is designed to probe Europa from exosphere to subsurface ocean, contributing the third dimension to observations of this enigmatic world. The hypotheses REASON will test are that (1) the ice shell of Europa hosts liquid water, (2) the ice shell overlies an ocean and is subject to tidal flexing, and (3) the exosphere, near-surface, ice shell, and ocean participate in material exchange essential to the habitability of this moon.

However, there is scarce evidence on phosphate's impact on acute pancreatitis outcomes, and the few studies examining this subject are relatively small and show conflicting data. We sought to determine the association between phosphate level at admission and the clinical course and outcomes of acute pancreatitis.

Noninvasive neuromodulation has shown promise at providing significant chronic pain relief with a much safer side effect profile. This retrospective pilot study is shaped around a noninvasive neuromodulation system over a 2-week treatment timeline.

Whereas other specialties emphasize routine symptom assessment, symptom burden is not well-characterized in dialysis patients. We sought to examine the prevalence and severity of unpleasant symptoms in a prospective hemodialysis cohort.

Methods: This nationwide population-based study included 2 193 855 adolescents of age 16 to 20 years who were assessed for military service between 1980 and 2013. Diagnoses of stuttering in adolescence were confirmed by a speech-language pathologist.
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of mineral supplementation on the serum concentration of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium in pre- and postpartum Blackbelly sheep throughout three successive lambing periods under free grazing conditions in the Ecuadorian Amazon Region. The field work was carried out between January 2015 and February 2018 using 20 Blackbelly sheep belonging to the Centre for Research, Postgraduate Studies and Conservation of Amazon Biodiversity, Ecuador. The flock was randomly divided into two groups: Group 1 (G1) was fed with forage plus a supplementation (Pecutrin Mineral supplement plus vitamins A, D3, and E.

The aim of this work was to assess early events of apoptotic changes as damage indicators in boar sperm cooled to 5 °C and exposed to different glycerol (GLY) concentrations. For this purpose, progressive sperm motility (CASA), plasmatic and acrosome membranes integrity (CFDA/PI; phase contrast), plasma membrane functionality (HOS), phosphatidylserine translocation (Annexin-V/FITC) and reduction of mitochondrial membrane potential (Ψm) (JC-10) were carried out at 37 °C, 17 °C and 5 °C in eight boar sperm pools.

While there is uncertainty as to the likelihood, frequency, and intensity of exposures experienced by those working around engineered nanoparticles, the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine has developed this guidance document for occupational medicine physicians and their colleagues to offer prudent preventive recommendations on the topics of exposure monitoring, exposure controls, and medical surveillance.

Although a role for β-cell defects has been suspected, β-cell abnormalities are difficult to demonstrate. We show a β-cell DNA damage response (DDR), presented by activation of the 53BP1 protein and accumulation of p53, in biopsy and autopsy material from patients with recently diagnosed T1D as well as a rat model of human T1D.

However, potential sex differences have yet to be examined in the overturned glass task. We examined the ESCE using this task in a large sample (N=232) of typically-developing elementary school children (111 girls, 121 boys) in grades 1-5 (approximately 7-11years old).

The aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of morphological abnormalities in commercial doses (n = 55, r = 2) of dairy and beef bulls, from AI Centers and to determine the possible existence of differences between them, regarding the percentage of abnormal spermatozoa. At least 200 spermatozoa per sample were evaluated using Bengal Rose stain (3% m/v) and light microscopy (×1000 magnification).

In Experiment 1, 16 participants completed a bimanual end-state comfort task and a memory task requiring serial recall of 12 words or pictures. The end-state comfort task involved moving two glasses between two shelves.

Knudson, Morrow, and Thomas ( 2014 ) recently summarized a number of important issues related to the quality of peer review and current peer-review practice in kinesiology. This writer endorses their six recommendations for improving peer review in kinesiology journals. The purpose of this commentary is to further highlight the importance of reviewer and associate editor recommendations to the editor, and the importance of editor decisions, in determining what becomes part of a discipline's body of knowledge.

Their physiological role is uncertain because sperm stabilization and activation effects have been reported. To analyze a putative modulatory role for semen exosomes on sperm activity in the boar, the effects of these vesicles on several sperm functional parameters were examined.

Background: A large gap exists between the practice of emergency medicine and palliative care. Although hospice and palliative medicine has recently been recognized as a subspecialty of emergency medicine, few palliative care teams routinely interact with emergency providers, and primary palliative care skills among emergency providers are lacking.
Objective: To identify the proportion and characteristics of patients who receive a palliative care consultation and arrive via the emergency department (ED).
Objectives: The goal of these sessions was to identify current practices and recommendations regarding medical surveillance for nanomaterial workers.
Methods: Conference participants met in three discussion groups.
Results: There were few existing programs directed to nanomaterial workers.
