Factors Associated With Biologic Therapy After Ileal Pouch-Anal Anastomosis in Patients With Ulcerative Colitis.

Background: Patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) undergoing proctocolectomy and ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) may eventually require biologic therapy. Factors associated with biologic therapy after IPAA have not been previously studied.

Methods: All patients with UC after total proctocolectomy and IPAA who were followed at Rabin Medical Center comprehensive pouch clinic and who consented to prospective observational follow-up were included.

Radar for Europa Assessment and Sounding: Ocean to Near-Surface (REASON).

The Radar for Europa Assessment and Sounding: Ocean to Near-surface (REASON) is a dual-frequency ice-penetrating radar (9 and 60 MHz) onboard the Europa Clipper mission. REASON is designed to probe Europa from exosphere to subsurface ocean, contributing the third dimension to observations of this enigmatic world. The hypotheses REASON will test are that (1) the ice shell of Europa hosts liquid water, (2) the ice shell overlies an ocean and is subject to tidal flexing, and (3) the exosphere, near-surface, ice shell, and ocean participate in material exchange essential to the habitability of this moon.

Cold-induced damage in boar sperm cooled to 5°C in Lactose Egg Yolk (LEY) medium with different Glycerol concentrations.

Boar sperm is highly susceptible to cold damage. When temperature drops to 5°C, the plasmatic membrane is destabilized. The freezing process causes a reduction of the fertility window because frozen/thawed boar sperm has less survivability.

Background: Abnormal phosphate levels are associated with adverse outcomes in critical illness. However, there is scarce evidence on phosphate's impact on acute pancreatitis outcomes, and the few studies examining this subject are relatively small and show conflicting data. Stuttering and Incident Type 2 Diabetes: A Population-Based Study of 2.2 Million Adolescents.

Purpose: To investigate the association between stuttering in adolescence and incident type 2 diabetes in young adulthood.

Methods: This nationwide population-based study included 2 193 855 adolescents of age 16 to 20 years who were assessed for military service between 1980 and 2013. Diagnoses of stuttering in adolescence were confirmed by a speech-language pathologist.

Effect of Mineral Supplementation on the Macromineral Concentration in Blood in Pre- and Postpartum Blackbelly Sheep.

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of mineral supplementation on the serum concentration of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium in pre- and postpartum Blackbelly sheep throughout three successive lambing periods under free grazing conditions in the Ecuadorian Amazon Region. The field work was carried out between January 2015 and February 2018 using 20 Blackbelly sheep belonging to the Centre for Research, Postgraduate Studies and Conservation of Amazon Biodiversity, Ecuador. Effect of different glycerol concentrations on phosphatidylserine translocation and mitochondrial membrane potential in chilled boar spermatozoa.

Boar spermatozoa are extremely sensitive to low temperatures and the cryopreservation causes dramatic changes in sperm survivability, but it is not clear which part of the cryopreservation process affects the most. The aim of this work was to assess early events of apoptotic changes as damage indicators in boar sperm cooled to 5 °C and exposed to different glycerol (GLY) concentrations. For this purpose, progressive sperm motility (CASA), plasmatic and acrosome membranes integrity (CFDA/PI; phase contrast), plasma membrane functionality (HOS), phosphatidylserine translocation (Annexin-V/FITC) and reduction of mitochondrial membrane potential (Ψm) (JC-10) were carried out at 37 °C, 17 °C and 5 °C in eight boar sperm pools.

β-Cell DNA Damage Response Promotes Islet Inflammation in Type 1 Diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease where pancreatic β-cells are destroyed by islet-infiltrating T cells. Although a role for β-cell defects has been suspected, β-cell abnormalities are difficult to demonstrate. We show a β-cell DNA damage response (DDR), presented by activation of the 53BP1 protein and accumulation of p53, in biopsy and autopsy material from patients with recently diagnosed T1D as well as a rat model of human T1D.

Sex differences in the end-state comfort effect in pre-adolescent children.

There has been recent interest in the developmental trajectory of the end-state comfort effect (ESCE) in young children. However, potential sex differences have yet to be examined in the overturned glass task. We examined the ESCE using this task in a large sample (N=232) of typically-developing elementary school children (111 girls, 121 boys) in grades 1-5 (approximately 7-11years old).

Relationship between morphological abnormalities in commercial bull frozen semen doses and conception rate.

Commercial doses of frozen bull semen for artificial insemination may have a certain percentage of morphological defects, despite being subject to prior selection. The aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of morphological abnormalities in commercial doses (n = 55, r = 2) of dairy and beef bulls, from AI Centers and to determine the possible existence of differences between them, regarding the percentage of abnormal spermatozoa. At least 200 spermatozoa per sample were evaluated using Bengal Rose stain (3% m/v) and light microscopy (×1000 magnification).

The death of recency: Relationship between end-state comfort and serial position effects in serial recall: Logan and Fischman (2011) revisited.

Two experiments examined the dynamic interaction between cognitive resources in short-term memory and bimanual object manipulation by extending recent research by Logan and Fischman (2011). In Experiment 1, 16 participants completed a bimanual end-state comfort task and a memory task requiring serial recall of 12 words or pictures. The end-state comfort task involved moving two glasses between two shelves.

Boar seminal plasma exosomes: effect on sperm function and protein identification by sequencing.

Mammalian seminal plasma contains membranous vesicles (exosomes), with a high content of cholesterol and sphingomyelin and a complex protein composition. Their physiological role is uncertain because sperm stabilization and activation effects have been reported. To analyze a putative modulatory role for semen exosomes on sperm activity in the boar, the effects of these vesicles on several sperm functional parameters were examined.
