Purpose: The decision of whether to perform continuity-sparing or resecting surgery of the jaw in cases of malignant oral tumors is often difficult.
Patients And Methods: To aid in this decision, bone scintigraphy was evaluated retrospectively in 304 patients with a squamous cell carcinoma.
Results: One hundred forty-five patients showed no accumulation of the radionuclide, and none of them had infiltration by tumor histologically.

Deoxyribonucleic acid ploidy was determined in paraffin-embedded tumor tissue from 116 patients with primary oral squamous cell carcinomas (including 5 carcinomas of the lip and 14 of the tongue) by means of flow cytometry. One hundred six cases were suitable for evaluation (91%). Sixty-eight percent of the cases (n = 72) showed a nondiploid nuclear DNA content.

Since 1985 76 revascularized osseous and osseocutaneous flaps collected from different donor sites were transferred. The overall rate of success amounted to 94.7%, 48.

They are pedicled on the velar rim and sutured to the free part of the pharyngeal flap between its origin and the recipient bed.

As a result, the horizontal displacement of SLS (sulcus labrale superius) and Pg' (soft tissue pogion) in patients with a normal vertical dimension and additional LMF (labiomental fold) in persons with a marked overbite are calculated well. The horizontal changes of the other points analyzed as well as all vertical changes are not predicted satisfactorily in the momentary version 4.

An efficient and PC-compatible system is introduced which features simplicity of use, clearness of structure and suitability for clinic and practice.

Compared to conventional methods of vascular diagnosis, DSA has considerable advantages.

A modified vise allowing easy handling and safe performing of bone grafts is described. Experience has shown it to be a valuable tool for handling microsurgically reanastomosed bone grafts, because the essential nutritive zones, the vascular and soft tissue areas, are protected from mechanical damage. Thus, even multiple osteotomies can be safely and easily performed.

The complexity of the anatomical structures and of their functions necessitates early, differentiated, and interdisciplinary treatment. The special aspects and problems are presented and discussed.

The already known surgical interventions for absolute induction of extensive mandibular atrophy, cannot be suggested as routine standardized methods. Use of Hydroxylapatite-ceramic for restoration of the atrophic alveolar process, shows several advantages; among those, simplicity of the operation use of local anesthesia, as well as very low percentage of unsuccessful interventions are taken into consideration. The clinical results of 102 cases are shown and discussed.

After 4 years of routine application of hydroxylapatite ridge augmentation 109 patients underwent a posttreatment examination. The quality of the alveolar ridge and the denture as well as the functional status of the craniomandibular system were evaluated in detail. For the maxilla good results were obtained in 80-90%, for the mandible in 70-80%.

This form of therapy causes problems particularly in reconstruction of the mandible. Seven cases are presented, and the advantages of microsurgically revascularized tissue transfer (over other methods of treatment) are pointed out and discussed.
