The Howard Hughes Medical Institute sponsored a workshop on laboratory chemical hoods on June 8, 9, and 10, 1998, that brought together 24 experts in the field of laboratory chemical hoods to critically assess the information known about hood performance. Workshop participants developed 31 consensus statements that reflect their collective views on the body of knowledge or lack thereof, for laboratory chemical hoods. The consensus statements fall into four broad categories: (1) hood selection, use, and operation; (2) hood and laboratory design issues; (3) ventilation system design issues; and (4) hood performance testing.

Methods: Review of the Israel Penn International Transplant Tumor Registry identified six cases of gastric MALToma. Patient demographics, management, and outcomes were compared and published literature was reviewed.
Background: Gastric cancer in the United States is often diagnosed at advanced stages, resulting in dismal outcomes. In the immunosuppressed transplant recipient population, little is known about the clinical staging and outcome of these compromised patients.
Methods: All US cases reported to the Israel Penn International Transplant Tumor Registry were retrospectively examined for patient demographics, immunosuppressive therapy, tumor characteristics, therapeutic modalities, and mortality.
A study was conducted to validate our previous work on the DSM-III-R disorders diagnosed in patients in psychoanalysis in the U.S., Canada, and Australia and to determine which specific mood, anxiety, and personality disorders were the most common in these patients.

The American Psychiatric Association, in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health, has initiated a research development process intended to accelerate an evaluation of existing criteria while developing and testing hypotheses that would improve the validity of our diagnostic concepts. Over the past year, a multidisciplinary, international panel has developed a series of six white papers which define research opportunities in the following broad areas: Nomenclature, Disability and Impairment, Personality Disorders, Relational Disorders, Developmental Psychopathology, Neuroscience, and Cross-Cultural aspects of Psychopathology.

An unanticipated consequence of DSM-III is international interest in this American document; for example, DSM-III was translated into 13 languages. This was due to its adopting a descriptive classification that eschewed etiologic theory and contained operational definitions, following Stengel's recommendations in his WHO report in 1959.

Methods: In this prospective study, 41 consecutive high-risk cadaver transplant recipients (panel reactive antibody level >30%, repeat transplant recipients, simultaneous pancreas and kidney or pancreas after kidney recipients, prolonged cold-ischemia time, prolonged donor hypotension, non-heart-beating donors) who received thymoglobulin induction therapy were included. The first dose (1.
Background: Posttransplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM), associated with the use of immunosuppressants, occurs at varying rates in kidney transplant recipients.
Methods: Five transplant centers conducted a retrospective review of 435 kidney recipients completing at least 6 months of follow-up to determine risk factors, incidence, and management strategies for posttransplant glucose intolerance. A distinction was made between hyperglycemia and diabetes.
One consequence of the longer interval between major revisions of the DSM(from seven years between DSM-III-R and DSM-IV to more than 15 years between DSM-IV and DSM-V) is that the accompanying descriptive text will become increasingly out of step with the psychiatric database. To remedy this problem, the DSM-IV Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR) was published in July 2000. The main objectives of the revision were to review the DSM-IV text and make changes to reflect information newly available since the close of the initial DSM-IV literature review process in mid-1992; to correct errors and ambiguities that have been identified in DSM-IV; and to update the diagnostic codes to reflect changes in the ICD-9-CM coding system the U.

PTLD has been noted in all transplant immunosuppressive eras including the pre-cyclosporine, cyclosporine, and post-cyclosporine eras. The time from organ transplantation to PTLD presentation varies widely from less than 1 month to several years.

In this study, we explored the efficacy of upper-room ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) in reducing the concentration of Serratia marcescens and Mycobacterium bovis bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) aerosols in enclosed places. We constructed a facility (4.5 m x 3 m x 2.

Patients with central nervous system (CNS) or other tumors are controversial donors, and the donor cancer transmission rates in cardiothoracic transplant recipients have not been determined. The Israel Penn International Transplant Tumor Registry (IPITTR) was queried to define the risk of donor cancer transmission in cardiothoracic transplant recipients.
