  • Candida parapsilosis is a major fungus contributing to nail infections, known for forming biofilms that resist standard antifungal treatments.
  • This research focused on evaluating the effectiveness of the antifungal drug itraconazole against biofilms of C. parapsilosis, examining its ability to induce reactive oxygen species (ROS) that lead to cell death.
  • The findings suggest that targeting ROS can enhance the effectiveness of antifungal therapy, particularly for stubborn cases of nail fungus, highlighting the potential of itraconazole as a key treatment option.

  • Rapid diagnosis of melanoma is crucial for better patient outcomes, and this study evaluates the effectiveness of teledermoscopy using the FotoFinder device and Moleanalyzer Pro AI compared to in-person clinical exams.
  • The study involved 30 melanocytic moles from 29 patients, analyzing the sensitivity and specificity of the three diagnosis methods against histopathological results.
  • Results showed that face-to-face exams had the highest sensitivity and specificity, while the teledermoscopy provided better agreement with pathology than the AI method, indicating that AI cannot fully replace dermatologists' expertise.

Background: Skin aging as a continuous and irreversible process is mainly the result of alterations of function and structure of the dermis. Among the modalities used for treating skin aging, carboxytherapy has been introduced as a safe minimally-invasive method for rejuvenation, reparation, and reconditioning of the skin.

Objective: We assessed the efficacy of carboxytherapy for the treatment of intrinsic skin aging through pathological and immunohistochemical (IHC) investigations.

A new injectable solution containing low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid (HA) and a specific amino acid mixture was formulated with proper aesthetic performance for the main signs of facial skin photoaging. The present study aimed to investigate its new application for rejuvenating and augmenting labia majora using clinical and biometric assessments. Three sessions of intradermal injections were performed using 3 ml of test extracellular matrix (ECM) for 10 eligible post-menopause female subjects (age 53.

Article Synopsis
  • - Recalcitrant dermatophytosis, mainly caused by Trichophyton indotineae, is becoming a significant issue globally, with a longer disease duration noted in patients infected by this strain.
  • - The study identified various fungal isolates from infected skin samples, highlighting that 88.33% of T. mentagrophytes complex isolates were T. indotineae, and findings indicated that steroid use contributes significantly to the emergence of these infections.
  • - For efficient diagnosis and treatment to counteract recalcitrant cases, direct skin sample PCR is recommended, due to its effectiveness in yielding reliable results similar to traditional methods.

Herein, the sandwich-like W-bridged siligraphene (W/g-SiC) as a heterojunction of WC and siligraphene nanosheets have been first accomplished via a simple green synthesis using Saccharum Ravennae gum as a natural Si and W sources and gelatin as a natural C and N sources. In a magnesiothermic process, Si and C atoms bond together and form a graphene-like structure where half of the C atoms are replaced by Si atoms. The presence of W in the natural precursor creates a W-doped siligraphene structure.

  • - The study investigates advanced glycation end products (AGE) and their measurement through skin autofluorescence (SAF) in diabetes mellitus (DM) versus nondiabetic individuals, highlighting AGEs' role in protein dysfunction related to aging.
  • - Researchers conducted a comprehensive literature search and found that DM patients had significantly higher SAF levels and HbA1c, indicating greater AGE accumulation compared to nondiabetics, with notable differences in age, gender, and BMI factors.
  • - Despite these findings, the study concludes that SAF may not be a reliable marker for AGEs in diabetes patients at this stage, although it suggests potential future applications in assessing metabolic syndrome.

At present, there are no standardized guidelines for determining patient eligibility for pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) clinical trials. Thus, we aim to determine which clinical features, histopathological features, or laboratory features should be included in active ulcerative PG clinical trial eligibility criteria for treatment-naïve patients and patients already treated with immunomodulating medications (treatment-exposed patients). This study employed 4 rounds of the Delphi technique.
