Background And Purpose: Cervical discogenic pain originates from degenerated intervertebral discs and is a common condition in the middle-aged population. Cervical discs may herniate and give compressions to cervical nerves, with pain and functional limitation of the arms. DiscoGel is a device that can be useful in the treatment of cervical disc herniation, with very short operating time and low radiation dose.

Osteoid osteoma represents 10%-12% of all benign bone tumors, and is composed by osteoid tissue and reticular and immature bone tissue. Acetabular involvement is very rare (≤1%). In this case report, we describe the treatment of an osteoid osteoma of the acetabulum of a young man using cryotherapy under fluoroscopic guide with the new XperGuide system which is used to reduce X-ray radiation dose and to have a more accurate localization of the lesion compared to computed tomography-guided or surgical ablation.

Lentiviral vector-mediated haemopoietic stem/progenitor cell (HSPC) gene therapy is a potentially curative treatment that represents an alternative to allogeneic HSPC transplantation. Here, we report safety and efficacy data from an interim analysis of patients with severe Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome who received lentiviral vector-derived gene therapy.

These minimally invasive percutaneous treatments employ an alternating electrical current with oscillating radiofrequency wavelengths to eliminate or alter pain signals from the targeted site. The aim of the continuous radiofrequency procedure is to increase the temperature sufficiently to create an irreversible thermal lesion on nerve fibres and thus permanently interrupt pain signals.

Purpose: Morton's neuroma (MN) is a leading cause of disability. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of radiofrequency (RF) in patients with chronic pain refractory to conservative therapies.
Methods: Between September 2012 and December 2016, RF was performed on 52 patients.
Context: Chronic pubalgia affects around 10% of athletes.
Objective: To determine the role of pulse-dose radiofrequency (PDRF) in athletes with chronic pubalgia and investigate the causes with imaging.
Design: Prospective nonrandomized single-group study.
Background: Metachromatic leukodystrophy (a deficiency of arylsulfatase A [ARSA]) is a fatal demyelinating lysosomal disease with no approved treatment. We aimed to assess the long-term outcomes in a cohort of patients with early-onset metachromatic leukodystrophy who underwent haemopoietic stem-cell gene therapy (HSC-GT).
Methods: This is an ad-hoc analysis of data from an ongoing, non-randomised, open-label, single-arm phase 1/2 trial, in which we enrolled patients with a molecular and biochemical diagnosis of metachromatic leukodystrophy (presymptomatic late-infantile or early-juvenile disease or early-symptomatic early-juvenile disease) at the Paediatric Clinical Research Unit, Ospedale San Raffaele, in Milan.
Background: Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) is a relatively rare condition in the pediatric population lacking of specific recommendations regarding the management. Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has gained widespread consensus during the last 10 years. We retrospectively reviewed our experience of VATS in the treatment of pediatric patients affected by PSP in terms of timing of surgery, operative technique, and postoperative outcome.

In the present study, microbubble concentrations in oral fluid samples were used to evaluate pulmonary maturity.
Objective: To evaluate lung maturity in full-term newborns delivered by elective caesarean section using the stable microbubble test in oral aspirates collected at birth.
Intra-arterial transplantation of mesoangioblasts proved safe and partially efficacious in preclinical models of muscular dystrophy. We now report the first-in-human, exploratory, non-randomized open-label phase I-IIa clinical trial of intra-arterial HLA-matched donor cell transplantation in 5 Duchenne patients. We administered escalating doses of donor-derived mesoangioblasts in limb arteries under immunosuppressive therapy (tacrolimus).

Methods: Seventy-five patients with trapezio-metacarpal OA were treated with the PDRF between October 2011 and September 2013. A 22-gauge cannula with a 5-cm length was introduced with percutaneous access in the lateral region of the affected trapezio-metacarpal joint.
Unlabelled: Very low birth weight preterm newborns weighing less than 1500 g were randomized to receive human milk supplemented with FM 85® or not. They have similar bone mineral content (BMC) at baseline, but, at the end of study, BMC was increasingly higher in the FM 85® group.
Introduction: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a human milk supplement (FM 85®; Nestlé, Vevey, Switzerland) developed for the purpose of improving nutrition, including bone mineralization, in very low birth weight preterm newborns.
Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD; MIM# 250100) is a rare inherited lysosomal storage disorder caused by the deficiency of Arylsulfatase A (ARSA). The enzymatic defect results in the accumulation of the ARSA substrate that is particularly relevant in myelin forming cells and leads to progressive dysmyelination and dysfunction of the central and peripheral nervous system. Sulfatide accumulation has also been reported in various visceral organs, although little is known about the potential clinical consequences of such accumulation.

Methods: Twenty-one newborn pigs received 20% meconium in saline intratracheally and were randomly allocated to one of three groups: I, control; II, surfactant only (poractant alfa, 200 mg/kg); or III, dilute surfactant BAL followed by 125 mg/kg surfactant. Arterial blood gases (ABGs), lung compliance, and resistance were assessed.
The purpose of this work has been to dosimetrically investigate four fluoroscopically guided interventions: the percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP), the percutaneous disc decompression (PDD), the radiofrequency medial branch neurolysis (RF) (hereafter named spine procedures), and the endovascular treatment for the critical limb ischemia (CLI). The X-ray equipment used was a Philips Integris Allura Xper FD20 imaging system provided with a dose-area product (DAP) meter. The parameters investigated were: maximum skin dose (MSD), air kerma (Ka,r), DAP, and fluoroscopy time (FT).

Nowadays, voluntary prevention is made more effective thanks to the new sophisticated diagnostic technologies applied worldwide by diagnostic imaging. Epidemiological data about the incidence and causes of death among the Italian population have shown that screening programmes should be aimed first at fighting the following diseases: prostatic carcinoma, lung cancer, colorectal carcinoma, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, aortic and peripheral vascular disease.
