Patterns of ranging behavior and space use are key for evaluating current ideas about the evolution and maintenance of pair-living and sexual monogamy as they provide insights into the dispersion of females, the potential for territoriality, and whether males are limited to defending an area that can support only one female and her offspring. We examined ranging behavior and space use to evaluate the potential for territoriality in five groups of red titi monkeys (Plecturocebus discolor) during a 10-year study in Ecuadorian Amazonia. Mean home range size, calculated using a time-sensitive local convex hull estimation procedure, was 4.

Objective: To identify factors that increase the microbial load in the operating room (OR) and recommend solutions to minimize the effect of these factors.

Design: Observation and sampling study.

Setting: Academic health center, public hospitals.

Background: Left ventricular free-wall rupture (LVFWR) is an uncommon but serious mechanical complication of acute myocardial infarction. Surgical repair, though challenging, is the only definitive treatment. Given the rarity of this condition, however, results after surgery are still not well established.

Background: Patients with high-gradient (HG) severe aortic stenosis (AS) and left ventricular (LV) dysfunction are at high risk of death. The optimal timing for aortic valve replacement (AVR) is not defined by guidelines. The objective was to define the optimal timing to perform isolated AVR in patients with HG-AS and severe LV dysfunction.

With their large body size and "slow" life histories, atelin primates are thought to follow a risk-averse breeding strategy, similar to capital breeders, in which they accumulate energy reserves in anticipation of future reproductive events such as gestation and lactation. However, given the paucity of longitudinal data from wild populations, few studies to date have been able to compare the timing of reproductive events (e.g.

Objective: To investigate the frequency, predictors, and outcomes of neurologic injury in adults treated with postcardiotomy extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (PC-ECMO).

Design: A retrospective multicenter registry study.

Setting: Twenty-one European institutions where cardiac surgery is performed.

Objective: The optimal duration of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) in patients affected by postcardiotomy cardiogenic shock (PCS) remains controversial. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of VA-ECMO duration on hospital outcomes.

Design: Retrospective analysis of an international registry.

Objective: To develop a pediatric research agenda focused on pediatric healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial stewardship topics that will yield the highest impact on child health.

Participants: The study included 26 geographically diverse adult and pediatric infectious diseases clinicians with expertise in healthcare-associated infection prevention and/or antimicrobial stewardship (topic identification and ranking of priorities), as well as members of the Division of Healthcare Quality and Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (topic identification).

Methods: Using a modified Delphi approach, expert recommendations were generated through an iterative process for identifying pediatric research priorities in healthcare associated infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship.

The aim of this review was to assess efficacy and acceptance of aesthetic zirconia crowns (ZCs) compared to the traditionally employed stainless steel crowns (SSCs) for primary teeth restoration. A comprehensive literature search was completed for the relevant keywords in Scopus and Medline databases. Resulting article abstracts and full texts were screened to determine final inclusion.

The carbon sink capacity of tropical forests is substantially affected by tree mortality. However, the main drivers of tropical tree death remain largely unknown. Here we present a pan-Amazonian assessment of how and why trees die, analysing over 120,000 trees representing > 3800 species from 189 long-term RAINFOR forest plots.

Motivated by the technological relevance of tungsten oxide nanostructures as valuable materials for energy saving technology, electrochemical and electrochromic characteristics of greener processed nanostructured WO-based electrodes are discussed in this work. For the purpose, microwave-assisted water-dispersible WOnanorods have been synthesized and processed into nanostructured electrodes. An airbrushing technique has been adopted as a cost-effective large-area scalable methodology to deposit the WOnanorods onto conductive glass.

Bladder cancer is common and has one of the highest recurrence rates. Cystoscopy, the current gold standard diagnosis approach, has recently benefited from the introduction of blue light assisted photodynamic diagnostic (PDD). While blue light cystoscopy improves diagnostic sensitivity, it remains a costly and invasive approach.

Mechanical recycling is one of the possible ways to enhance the value of postconsumer plastic materials. However, the final performance of the recycled material will strongly depend on the quality of the selection made on the recycled product and on the degradation of the properties. In this context, the present study examines the effect of reprocessing for five successive extrusion cycles on the rheological, mechanical and thermal properties of a poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT)-based blend on samples reprocessed in both dry and wet conditions.

Statement Of Problem: The effect of prophylactic polishing pastes on composite resin materials has been extensively investigated, but little is known about their effect on ceramic materials.

Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of prophylactic polishing pastes on the 2D and 3D roughness, translucency, and gloss of different ceramic materials.

Material And Methods: A total of 120 flat specimens (thickness: 2 mm) obtained from computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) blocks of leucite glass-ceramic (Empress CAD), lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (e.

Purpose: Reconstructing the occlusal morphology of posterior teeth in definitive dental prosthesis can be challenging. The use of the correlation technique enables replication of the information and occlusal anatomy of interim dental prostheses to the definitive ones. The purpose of this controlled clinical trial was to compare the static and dynamic contacts (SDC) of monolithic zirconia crowns designed with correlation and library techniques.

Article Synopsis
  • Multimodality imaging, particularly transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and cardiac computed tomography (CT), is crucial for diagnosing infective endocarditis (IE) in patients prior to surgery.
  • A study of 68 patients with left-side IE found TEE was more effective than CT in identifying valvular lesions and had similar performance for paravalvular lesions.
  • TEE showed significantly better detection of vegetations compared to CT, while CT had higher sensitivity for pseudoaneurysms; however, both methods had comparable overall diagnostic accuracy for paravalvular lesions.

Clinical manifestations of coronavirus disease 2019 in pregnant women, in contrast to previous outbreaks, seem to be similar to those of nonpregnant women. During severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), SARS influenza A, and Middle East respiratory syndrome outbreaks, an increased severity of disease among pregnant women was observed. In some pregnant women, respiratory failure can occur and progress quickly to acute respiratory distress syndrome requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) as a rescue therapy.

Background: Despite concerns about the burden of the bacterial and fungal infection syndromes related to injection drug use (IDU), robust estimates of the public health burden of these conditions are lacking. The current article reviews and compares data sources and national burden estimates for infective endocarditis (IE) and skin and soft-tissue infections related to IDU in the United States.

Methods: A literature review was conducted for estimates of skin and soft-tissue infection and endocarditis disease burden with related IDU or substance use disorder terms since 2011.

Background: Donor heart shortage has extended the waiting time and increased the mortality of patients on the transplant waiting list. Widening old standard donor criteria has successfully increased the number of heart transplantations, but for many years, a valve disease in a donor heart has been considered a primary contraindication for organ donation.

Aims: To analyse the results of aortic and mitral valvular surgery in marginal donor hearts with valvulopathy before orthotopic heart transplantation.
