Interventions to Enhance Adherence to Oral Antineoplastic Agents: A Scoping Review.

Background: As new targeted oral antineoplastic therapies have emerged in recent years, the development of effective strategies that promote optimal adherence to cancer medication regimens has become an important priority.

Methods: We conducted a scoping literature review to search for English language articles published through July 15, 2019, to identify studies that reported the testing and/or evaluation of interventions to improve adherence to oral antineoplastic agents.

Results: A total of 56 articles were selected for review.

A concurrent revolution in genome editing with the use of the CRISPR-Cas9 system enables the rapid generation of animal models, including mouse, which can precisely recapitulate human variants.

How should medical schools prepare medical students for leading the NHS?

The NHS is an evolving landscape. While the level of clinical knowledge conferred to medical students remains constant, their competence in other skills, such as leadership, needs to be enhanced in order for them to successfully work within the health-care system. Effect of a Mandatory Third-Year Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment Course on Student Attitudes.

Context: Despite interest by osteopathic medical students in learning and incorporating osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) techniques into their future practices, most students indicate that OMT is rarely or never taught during many clinical rotations.

Objective: To determine whether a mandatory OMT course taken during the third year of medical school would influence students' exposure to OMT, confidence in OMT, intent to continue developing OMT skills, and plan to provide OMT as practicing physicians.

Routine HIV counseling and testing during antenatal care in Ukraine: a qualitative study of the experiences and perspectives of pregnant women and antenatal care providers.

Ukraine has one of the highest levels of HIV prevalence in Europe. Provider-initiated HIV testing and counseling (PITC) is routine during antenatal care (ANC) in Ukraine, with nearly all pregnant women receiving HIV testing. National policies state that testing is voluntary, with consent and confidentiality protections, but little is known about actual testing implementation and adherence to these policies.

Opioid consumption following outpatient upper extremity surgery.

Purpose: After elective outpatient upper extremity surgery, patients' need for opioid analgesic medication may be considerably less than typically dispensed. Our goal for this study was to evaluate pain control and quantify the amount of leftover pain medication.

Methods: We recruited patients scheduled for elective outpatient upper extremity surgery, who met the inclusion criteria, to participate in a phone interview 7 to 14 days after surgery.

HIV seroprevalence among orphaned and homeless youth: no place like home.

Objectives: We evaluated the combined influences of orphaned status and homelessness on HIV seroprevalence and risk among street-involved Ukrainian youth in 2008.

Design: Systematic, multicity, community-based, cross-sectional assessment.

Methods: Time-location sampling was used to identify eligible youth aged 15-24 after city-wide mapping of 91 sites where street-involved youth gathered in Odessa, Kiev, and Donetsk.

Multi-city assessment of lifetime pregnancy involvement among street youth, Ukraine.

Although street youth are at increased risk of lifetime pregnancy involvement (LPI), or ever becoming or getting someone pregnant, no reports to date describe the epidemiology of LPI among systematically sampled street youth from multiple cities outside of North America. The purpose of our assessment was to describe the prevalence of and risk factors associated with LPI among street youth from three Ukrainian cities. A prematriculation intervention to improve the adjustment of students to medical school.

Acute stroke care in a neurologically underserved state: lessons learned from the Iowa Stroke Survey.

Prior studies have suggested that stroke care is more fragmented in rural or neurologically underserved areas. The purpose of this study was to determine the availability of diagnostic and treatment services for acute stroke care in Iowa and to identify factors influencing care. Scaphoid excision and limited wrist fusion: a comparison of K-wire and circular plate fixation.

The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical outcome, union rate, and complications of a consecutive series of Scaphoid excision and limited wrist arthrodesis performed by a single surgeon using distal radius bone graft and K-wires or circular plate fixation. A sequential series of ten patients(11 wrists) who were stabilized with temporary K-wires were compared to 11 patients (11 wrists) who were stabilized with a circular plate. Tissue plasminogen activator use: evaluation and initial management of ischemic stroke from an Iowa hospital perspective.

Despite its efficacy for acute ischemic stroke, tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) is reported as used in less than 5% of patients with stroke. This study assessed the rate of intravenous rt-PA use in a community hospital and identified factors influencing rt-PA use. A retrospective chart review revealed a total of 464 patients presenting to the emergency department with a primary diagnosis of stroke from January 2000 through June 2002.
