Background: Nurse practitioners serve an essential role in the completion of age-appropriate adolescent high-risk behavior screenings including tobacco/nicotine, alcohol, illicit drug use, and sexual activity during well-child examinations (WCEs).
Local Problem: Midwestern adolescents demonstrate a suboptimal rate of engaging in annual preventative medical visits in comparison to national data.
Methods: This mixed-methods quality improvement pilot sought to evaluate health care providers' beliefs, general clinic processes, and the overall quality of WCEs among adolescents aged 11-17 years in two midwestern primary care clinics.
Given an increased risk of both thrombosis and bleeding, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) presents a unique challenge when anticoagulation is required for comorbid disease, particularly in the setting of major bleeding events. We present for the first time a patient with TTP and atrial fibrillation, presenting with recurrent stroke, but unable to tolerate anticoagulation due to prior intra-cerebral hemorrhage. To address both issues concomitantly, we describe the successful application of a novel management approach to facilitate left atrial appendage occlusion, there by offering a non-pharmacologic means of stroke prevention without added bleeding risk.

Objective: We sought to identify relationships between trust in various sources of health information and the behavioral beliefs related to vaccination and mask wearing as well as to understand how behavioral beliefs related to vaccination differ by willingness to be vaccinated.
Methods: We conducted an online survey of 1034 adults in the United States and assessed their trust in federal, local, and media sources of health information; their beliefs about vaccination; and their masking intention and vaccination willingness.
