Analyzing root exudates during drought poses a serious challenge; sampling root exudates in soil is destructive to roots and leads to biased molecular analysis, along with microbial decomposition and exudate sorption to soil components. Hydroponic approaches are useful to overcome these problems but lack the utility to induce drought. Nondestructive sampling techniques are thus needed to analyze root exudates from the same plants over time in combination with highly controlled variable water/nutrient stress.

How well a general-purpose AI language model performs diagnosis and triage relative to physicians and laypeople is not well understood.
Methods: We compared the predictive accuracy of Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3)'s diagnostic and triage ability for 48 validated synthetic case vignettes (<50 words; sixth-grade reading level or below) of both common (eg, viral illness) and severe (eg, heart attack) conditions to a nationally representative sample of 5000 lay people from the USA who could use the internet to find the correct options and 21 practising physicians at Harvard Medical School.
Introduction: Little is known about perceptions of low-income and middle-income country (LMIC) partners regarding global surgery collaborations with high-income countries (HICs).
Methods: A survey was distributed to surgeons from LMICs to assess the nature and perception of collaborations, funding, benefits, communication, and the effects of COVID-19 on partnerships.
Results: We received 19 responses from LMIC representatives in 12 countries on three continents.

Objectives: Opportunistic salpingectomy (OS) is the removal of fallopian tubes during another pelvic surgery for the purpose of ovarian cancer prevention. Herein, we describe the rates of OS at the time of hysterectomy and tubal sterilization between 2017 and 2020.
Methods: This study uses the Canadian Institute of Health Information's Discharge Abstract Database and National Ambulatory Care Reporting System for all Canadian provinces and territories except for Quebec between the fiscal years 2017 and 2020.
Bioenergy sorghum is a drought-tolerant high-biomass C4 grass targeted for production on annual cropland marginal for food crops due primarily to abiotic constraints. To better understand the overall contribution of stem wax to bioenergy sorghum's resilience, the current study characterized sorghum stem cuticular wax loads, composition, morphometrics, wax pathway gene expression and regulation using vegetative phase Wray, R07020, and TX08001 genotypes. View Article and Find Full Text PDFSubdural hemorrhages (SDHs) in children are most often observed in abusive head trauma (AHT), a distinct form of traumatic brain injury, but they may occur in other conditions as well, typically with clear signs and symptoms of an alternative diagnosis. We present a case of an infant whose SDH initially raised the question of AHT, but multidisciplinary evaluation identified multiple abnormalities, including rash, macrocephaly, growth failure, and elevated inflammatory markers, which were all atypical for trauma. These, along with significant cerebral atrophy, ventriculomegaly, and an absence of other injuries, raised concerns for a genetic disorder, prompting genetic consultation.

Evidence of a snapshot of social behaviour, especially parental care, can be determined from the concentration of elephant tracks and trackways, and especially from apparently contemporaneous converging trackways, of small juvenile and larger, presumably young adult female tracks.
