In 1966, the National Academy of Sciences and National Research Council published 'Accidental Death and Disability: the Neglected Disease of Modern Society' which served as a national call to action to address the apparent public apathy towards the devastating and unnecessary toll that injury was taking on America. This white paper recommended the establishment of a National Trauma Association to drive public demand for injury prevention and mitigation. The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma heeding that call, founded the American Trauma Society (ATS) in 1968.

At the study institution, this population with any "suspicion of trauma" criteria were previously triaged as a trauma team activation (TTA) but due to high rates of mis-triage was modified to "signs of trauma." The purpose of this study is to compare injured and uninjured FD patients to identify patient characteristics and outcomes, and to evaluate triage accuracy of signs of trauma.

As previously reported, we recently identified the first selective small molecule Polθ in vitro probe, (ART558), which recapitulates the phenotype of Polθ loss, and in vivo probe, (ART812), which is efficacious in a model of PARP inhibitor resistant TNBC in vivo. Here we describe the discovery, biochemical and biophysical characterization of these probes including small molecule ligand co-crystal structures with Polθ.

A rational drug design approach started from the identification of a novel tetrahydronaphthalene series, characterized by nanomolar inhibition of p38α with selectivity over p38γ and p38δ isoforms. SAR optimization of is outlined, where improvements in potency against p38α and ligand-enzyme dissociation kinetics led to several compounds showing pronounced anti-inflammatory effects (inhibition of TNFα release).

ART558 inhibits the major Polθ-mediated DNA repair process, Theta-Mediated End Joining, without targeting Non-Homologous End Joining. In addition, ART558 elicits DNA damage and synthetic lethality in BRCA1- or BRCA2-mutant tumour cells and enhances the effects of a PARP inhibitor.

We studied older men (74 ± 4 years) with a history of lifelong (>50 years) endurance exercise to examine potential benefits for slow and fast muscle fibre size and contractile function. Lifelong endurance exercisers had slow muscle fibres that were larger, stronger, faster and more powerful than young exercisers (25 ± 1 years) and age-matched non-exercisers (75 ± 2 years).

Purpose: To biomechanically compare dual small orthogonal plating, superior plating, and anteroinferior plating of midshaft clavicle fractures by use of a cadaveric model.
Study Design: Descriptive laboratory study.
Objective: The focus of this study was the association between the metabolic syndrome (MetSyn) and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) defined as maximal oxygen uptake (VO). Although previous research has shown a relationship between MetSyn and CRF, most studies are based on measures of CRF and different cardiometabolic risk factor from earlier guidelines.
Participants And Methods: The metabolic markers included in the present study were central obesity, elevated plasma triglycerides, elevated fasting high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, impaired fasting plasma glucose, hypertension, or pharmacologic treatment for diagnosed hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, or diabetes.

Heretofore, identification of such individuals has proven somewhat difficult, typically involving clinical decision making based on descriptions and observations of behavior, in conjunction with the administration of cognitive assessments. The present study reports on the use of a sensory motor battery in conjunction with a recursive partitioning computer algorithm, boosted trees, to develop a prediction heuristic for identifying individuals with ADHD.

On occasions, health professionals need to measure the height directly of patients with contractures because: (i) the patient is unable to report his/her height as a result of a lack of mental capacity and (ii) there is no-one available to report the height or the reported height is obviously inaccurate.
