Background: Increased thermogenic activity has shown to be a promising target for treating and preventing obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Little is known about the muscular influence on nonshivering thermogenesis (NST), and it remains unclear whether physical training and potential metabolic improvements could be associated with changes in this type of thermogenic activity.
Objective: The present study aimed to assess muscular NST activity in overweight and T2DM before and after a combined training period (strength training followed by aerobic exercise).
Background: Exercise is an important strategy in the management of diabetes. Experimental studies have shown that exercise acts, at least in part, by inducing the production of myokines that improve metabolic control and activate brown/beige adipose tissue depots. Combined training (CT) is recommended by the major diabetes guidelines due to its metabolic and cardiovascular benefits, however, its impact on brown/beige adipose tissue activities has never been tested in humans with overweight and type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Concentrations of pro-thermogenic/anti-inflammatory inductors are influenced by fed/fasting, sedentary/trained states, and metabolic pattern. Aiming to identify miRNAs suitable specifically for stage I-II NSCLC screening in serum/plasma samples, we searched the databases "Pubmed", "Medline", "Scopus", "Embase" and "WOS" and systematically reviewed the publications reporting quantitative data on the efficacy [sensitivity, specificity and/or area under the curve (AUC)] of circulating miRNAs as biomarkers of NSCLC stage I and/or II. The 20 studies fulfilling the search criteria included 1110 NSCLC patients and 1009 controls, and were of medium quality according to Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies checklist.

Objectives And Methods: The aim of this study is to provide an operating methodology for the risk assessment of work-related stress. The study involved 554 call-centre workers employed in three insurance organizations and a mixed work group (worker, company and public health representative) for the study management was defined.
Objectives: The objectives of the study were to identify the daily nursing workload in an intensive care unit (ICU) and to analyse the adequacy of nursing staff in a six hour shift according to the Nursing Activities Score (NAS).
Method: The sample consisted of 68 patients from a general 25-bed adult ICU in a private hospital with 250 beds in São Paulo, Brazil. The nursing workload of all patients admitted in the ICU over a one month period in 2004 were measured daily according to the NAS.

The results obtained in the surgical treatment of massive lesions of the rotator cuff are quite often inferior to what is expected, because prognosis is not respected. To demonstrate that the quality of the results obtained is directly proportional to the preoperative prognostic factors a retrospective study was conducted on 28 patients submitted to massive lesion repair of the rotator cuff between 1990 and 1996; the criteria of inclusion was: a) patients aged under 65 years; b) preoperative radiographic findings with acromiohumeral distance not less than 6 mm; c) degeneration of the tendons not greater than a Goutallier stage 2; d) absence of inveterate pseudoparalysis of the limb involved; e) absence of anterosuperior subdislocation of the humeral head. The results obtained with a mean follow-up of 5 years revealed a mean Constant score of 85 points (minimum 79, maximum 91) that may correspond to excellent results, showing how this type of surgery may guarantee good results only when factors of prognosis are respected preoperatively.

Clinical morphologic, and functional follow-up was performed an average of 10 years later, and the findings were compared to the radiographic features. The final outcome was rated good in 41% of the cases, fair in 29%, and unsatisfactory in 30%.

After skeletal traction for 80 days, there was bony regeneration of the proximal femur. At 8 months she was able to walk without support and her left leg was 2 cm only shorter than the right.

The cystic material was found to expand the neural sheath, while the neural fasciculi were few and atrophic. The patient's cultured skin fibroblasts synthesised a mixed population of type I collagen chains some of which showed abnormal behaviour on sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Further analysis revealed that two types of alpha 1(I) chains were synthesised, both an abnormal, slower migrating and a normal species.
