Evaluation of Conventional and Combined Doppler Parameters in Preeclampsia: Diagnostic and Prognostic Insights.

: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between conventional and novel Doppler parameters, including cerebroplacental ratio (CPR), cerebral-placental-uterine ratio (CPUR), umbilical-to-cerebral ratio (UCR), and amniotic-to-umbilical-cerebral ratio (AUCR), with the diagnosis of preeclampsia (PE) and adverse neonatal outcomes in PE cases. : This prospective case-control study was conducted at the Ankara Etlik City Hospital Perinatology Clinic between November 2023 and May 2024. The study population was divided into two groups: Group 1, consisting of 74 patients diagnosed with preeclampsia, and Group 2, consisting of 80 healthy control patients.

Second-Trimester Inflammatory Markers in Predicting Fetal Growth Restriction: A Retrospective Analysis.

Problem: Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is a critical pregnancy complication linked to increased perinatal morbidity and mortality. Inflammation plays a key role in FGR's pathophysiology, and systemic inflammation markers may serve as predictors. This study evaluates the role of various inflammation indices; systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI), pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), lymphocyte-to-platelet ratio (LMR), monocyte-to-platelet ratio (MPR), aggregate systemic inflammation index (AISI), systemic coagulation inflammation index (SCII), and immature granulocyte percentage (IG%) in predicting FGR.

Can maternal inflammatory and nutritional status, evaluated by the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP) score and the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) in the first trimester, predict late-onset fetal growth restriction?

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of immunonutritional markers, specifically the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP) score and the prognostic nutritional index (PNI), in predicting late-onset fetal growth restriction (LO-FGR) during the first trimester.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at a tertiary care center between October 2022 and August 2023. The study included a total of 213 singleton pregnancies, with 99 women in the LO-FGR group and 114 in the healthy control group, matched by maternal age and gestational age at delivery.

Mechanism of anticancer effect of ETP-45658, a PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway inhibitor on HT-29 Cells.

The PI3K pathway plays a crucial role in tumor cell proliferation across various cancers, including colon cancer, making it a promising treatment target. This study aims to investigate the antiproliferative activity of ETP-45658, a PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway inhibitor, on colon cancer and elucidate the underlying mechanisms. HT-29 colon cancer cells were treated with varying doses of ETP 45658 and its cytotoxic effect assessed using the XTT cell viability assay.

Comparison of International Ovarian Tumor Analysis ADNEX model and Ovarian-Adnexal Reporting and Data System with final histological diagnosis in adnexal masses: a retrospective study.

Objective: The International ovarian tumor analysis (IOTA)-Assessment of Different NEoplasias in the adneXa (ADNEX) model and the ovarian-adnexal reporting and data system (O-RADS) were developed to improve the diagnostic accuracy of adnexal masses in the preoperative period. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive values of both models in patients who underwent surgery for an adnexal mass at our hospital, based on the final pathological results.

Methods: This study included patients who underwent surgery for adnexal masses at our hospital between 2019 and 2021 and met the inclusion criteria.

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disease that is thought to affect up to 1% of the world's population. Evidence suggests that salmon calcitonin (sCT) has positive effects on epileptic seizures and epileptogenesis. However, it remains unknown that whether nitric oxide (NO) pathway contributed to this antiepileptic effect of sCT.

Global Effects of SARS-CoV-2 Era on Kidney Transplantation Activities: Analysis of WHO Data.

Background: Uncertainty raises questions in kidney transplant during the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic regarding the recipient, the donor, and health care professionals. The pandemic not only has disrupted kidney transplanted patients but also has influenced transplant systems, donation chains, and timely and safe transplant surgeries. In the present study, we aimed to explore the global effects of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on kidney transplant.

Management of endocrine surgical disorders during COVID-19 pandemic: expert opinion for non-surgical options.

Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented conditions for overall health care systems by restricting resources for non-COVID-19 patients. As the burden of the disease escalates, routine elective surgeries are being cancelled. The aim of this paper was to provide a guideline for management of endocrine surgical disorders during a pandemic.

Protective effects of lamotrigine and vitamin B12 on pentylenetetrazole-induced epileptogenesis in rats.

Epileptogenesis is a process that includes molecular and cellular events that foster the establishment of hyperexcitable neuronal networks in the brain. Pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced kindling model in rodents has added new information to the knowledge about the pathogenesis of epilepsy and potential targets of novel antiepileptic agents. Evidence from animal and human studies suggests that oxidative and inflammatory events may play important roles in the initiation and maintaining seizure activities.

Ghrelin receptor agonist hexarelin attenuates antinociceptive tolerance to morphine in rats.

Ghrelin, a peptide hormone released from the gastric endocrine glands, shows analgesic activity apart from its various physiological effects. Nevertheless, the effects of ghrelin receptor (GHS-R) agonists on morphine analgesia and tolerance have not yet been elucidated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the ghrelin receptor agonist hexarelin and antagonist [d-Lys3]-GHRP-6 on morphine antinociception and tolerance in rats.

An analysis of general surgery theses set up between years 1998-2018 in Turkey: Evidence levels and publication rates of 1996 theses.

Objectives: Setting up and advocating a thesis is mandatory at the end of the residency training program to become a specialist in general surgery according to the regulations on medical specialization in Turkey. Writing a thesis helps the resident to learn to ask structured questions, assembling the most accurate study design, managing the study process, collecting the results and building a conclusion with medical implications. In this descriptive study, we aimed to investigate the publication rates of the theses written in the field of general surgery and to assess the properties of the published theses.

Retrospective Analysis of the first 100 Kidney Transplants at the Istanbul Okan University, Health Application and Research Center.

Purpose: Many studies evaluating the effect of intragastric botulinum toxin type A injection (IG-BTxA) for the treatment of obesity have been published. However, none of these studies combined this procedure with a calorie-restricting high-protein diet. Herein, we aimed to evaluate the effects of IG-BTxA application combined with a calorie-restricting high-protein diet.

Castleman's disease presenting with mechanical intestinal obstruction: A rare case.

Castleman's disease (CD) is a lymphoproliferative disorder and the occurrence of CD in the small bowel is rare. In this study, we present one case of CD causing mechanical intestinal obstruction due to involvement of terminal ileum. A 50-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with signs and symptoms of mechanical intestinal obstruction without history previous surgery.

The Positive Effects of the Human Amniotic Membrane on the Healing of Staple Line After Sleeve Gastrectomy Applied Long-Evans Rat Model.

Background: The staple line leakage is a dangerous complication of sleeve gastrectomy. Various strategies have been tried to reduce the leakage risk. The amniotic membrane (AmM) is the inner layer of the placental membranes and has anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrosis, and anti-scarring effects, and it also has lower immune characteristics which are another essential characteristic of AmM concerning its utility for grafting.
