Inflammasomes represent a group of protein complexes that contribute to host defense against pathogens and repair processes upon the induction of inflammation. However, aberrant and chronic inflammasome activation underlies the pathology of numerous common inflammatory diseases. Inflammasome assembly causes activation of the protease caspase-1 which in turn activates proinflammatory cytokines and induces a lytic type of cell death termed pyroptosis.

In the last 20 years, a large number of epidemiological studies showed a significant increase in the incidence and prevalence of EoE, especially in developed countries. This phenomenon might correlate to the overall increase in pediatric allergic diseases or might be a result of improved medical awareness and knowledge through modern diagnostic instruments.

In the last ten years, several epidemiological studies showed a significant increase in the incidence and prevalence of EoE, especially in children in Western Countries. Although EoE often presents with gastrointestinal symptoms, adults and children may develop extraintestinal symptoms and behavioral issues.

The glenohumeral joint is inclined to fall into two main instability categories: macro and micro. Macroinstability can be traumatic or atraumatic, with anterior or posterior dislocation of the humeral head.

Aim: This study evaluated the occurrence of infection in primary CE-affected dogs.
Methods: Forty-seven CE-affected dogs of different age and sex were enrolled in the study.
Purpose: We investigate the use of ratio of lesion to cortex (L/C) attenuation and aorta-lesion attenuation difference (ALAD) on multiphase contrast-enhanced CT to help distinguish oncocytoma from clear cell RCC in small renal masses (diameter < 4 cm).
Methods: We retrospectively identified 76 patients that undergo CT before surgery for a suspicious small renal mass between January 2014 and December 2018 with pathological diagnosis of 21 oncocytomas (ROs), 25 clear cell RCCs, 7 chromophobe RCCs, 7 papillary RCCs, 7 multilocular cystic RCCs, 7 angiomyolipomas and 2 leiomyomas. CT attenuation values were obtained for the tumor, the normal renal cortex and the aorta, placing a circular region of interest (ROI) in the same slice by two radiologists, independently.
Objectives: To evaluate the incidence and clinical significance of pneumothorax (PTX) and pulmonary hemorrhage (PH) after CT-guided lung biopsy (CT-LB). To test correlations of PTX and chest tube insertion (CTI) with PH and other imaging and procedural parameters.
Methods: Pre-procedural CT and CT-LB scans of 904 patients were examined.

We present MaREA4Galaxy, a user-friendly tool that allows a user to characterize and to graphically compare groups of samples with different transcriptional regulation of metabolism, as estimated from cross-sectional RNA-seq data. The tool is available as plug-in for the widely-used Galaxy platform for comparative genomics and bioinformatics analyses. MaREA4Galaxy combines three modules.

We aimed to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of AU in children and to identify predictors of both severity and progression. We evaluated 314 children admitted to the ED with a diagnosis of AU.

AIMS: The aims of our project were to review the strategies used by Italian MS specialists to inform patients about treatment options and to design a multicentre shared document that homogenizes the information about disease-modifying treatment (DMTs) and the procedure of taking informed consent in clinical practice. RESULTS: The new resource, obtained by consensus among 31 neurologists from 27 MS Centres in Italy with the supervision of a medico-legal advisor, received the aegis of Italian Neurological Society (SIN) and constitutes a step toward a standardized decision process around DMTs in MS.

The use of glutamate receptor antagonists, such as the AMPARs antagonist Perampanel (PER), might be a pharmacological approach to counteract the excessive over-activation of glutamate receptors providing neuroprotective effects. Using electrophysiological and molecular analyses, we investigated the effect of PER against in vitro ischemia obtained by oxygen and glucose deprivation (OGD) in rat slices of two brain structures particularly sensitive to ischemic insults, the nucleus striatum and the hippocampus.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS) that is associated with demyelination and neuronal loss. Over recent years, the immunological and neuronal effects of tryptophan (Trp) metabolites have been largely investigated, leading to the hypothesis that these compounds and the related enzymes are possibly involved in the pathophysiology of MS. Specifically, the kynurenine pathway of Trp metabolism is responsible for the synthesis of intermediate products with potential immunological and neuronal effects.

Most NSCLCs are diagnosed at an advanced stage and using minimally invasive diagnostic procedures that yield small biopsies or cytological samples. Cytological smears and paired histological samples from 52 advanced NSCLC patients were tested for PD-L1 expression by immunocyto/histochemistry (ICC/IHC) and for gene status by FISH.

The kynurenine pathway is a paramount source of several immunoregulatory metabolites, including l-kynurenine (Kyn), the main product of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) that catalyzes the rate-limiting step of the pathway. In the serotonin pathway, the metabolite -acetylserotonin (NAS) has been shown to possess antioxidant, antiinflammatory, and neuroprotective properties in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model of multiple sclerosis (MS).

In addition, caspase-1 activates the protein GSDMD in immune cells, causing pyroptosis, a lytic type of cell death. In contrast, UVB irradiation of human primary keratinocytes induces NLRP1 inflammasome activation, cytokine secretion, and caspase-1-dependent apoptosis, rather than pyroptosis.
