Purpose: We investigate the use of ratio of lesion to cortex (L/C) attenuation and aorta-lesion attenuation difference (ALAD) on multiphase contrast-enhanced CT to help distinguish oncocytoma from clear cell RCC in small renal masses (diameter < 4 cm).

Methods: We retrospectively identified 76 patients that undergo CT before surgery for a suspicious small renal mass between January 2014 and December 2018 with pathological diagnosis of 21 oncocytomas (ROs), 25 clear cell RCCs, 7 chromophobe RCCs, 7 papillary RCCs, 7 multilocular cystic RCCs, 7 angiomyolipomas and 2 leiomyomas. CT attenuation values were obtained for the tumor, the normal renal cortex and the aorta, placing a circular region of interest (ROI) in the same slice by two radiologists, independently.

In the last years, change in multiple sclerosis (MS) therapeutic scenario has highlighted the need for an improved doctor-patient communication in advance of treatment initiation in order to allow patient's empowerment in the decision-making process. AIMS: The aims of our project were to review the strategies used by Italian MS specialists to inform patients about treatment options and to design a multicentre shared document that homogenizes the information about disease-modifying treatment (DMTs) and the procedure of taking informed consent in clinical practice. RESULTS: The new resource, obtained by consensus among 31 neurologists from 27 MS Centres in Italy with the supervision of a medico-legal advisor, received the aegis of Italian Neurological Society (SIN) and constitutes a step toward a standardized decision process around DMTs in MS.

Energy depletion caused by ischemic brain insults may result in persistent neuronal depolarization accompanied by hyper-stimulation of ionotropic glutamate receptors and excitotoxic phenomena, possibly leading to cell death. The use of glutamate receptor antagonists, such as the AMPARs antagonist Perampanel (PER), might be a pharmacological approach to counteract the excessive over-activation of glutamate receptors providing neuroprotective effects. Using electrophysiological and molecular analyses, we investigated the effect of PER against in vitro ischemia obtained by oxygen and glucose deprivation (OGD) in rat slices of two brain structures particularly sensitive to ischemic insults, the nucleus striatum and the hippocampus.

l-tryptophan (Trp), an essential amino acid for mammals, is the precursor of a wide array of immunomodulatory metabolites produced by the kynurenine and serotonin pathways. The kynurenine pathway is a paramount source of several immunoregulatory metabolites, including l-kynurenine (Kyn), the main product of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) that catalyzes the rate-limiting step of the pathway.
