The purpose of the study was to present the results of treatment of lacrimal ducts obstruction. The authors describe the advantages of temporary intubation of lacrimal canaliculus with simultaneous dacryocystorhinostomy. Additionally, they prove the harmfulness for probing the lacrimal ducts in adults and describe reasons of unsuccessful operations of dacryocystorhinostomy.

The author maintains that chronic inflammation and unnecessary probing of the lacrimal ducts could cause injuries of the mucosa and development of benign tumor, mostly granuloma. In 20% of the pathological findings in the lacrimal sac there were calcified, amorphous, stone consistency concrements, with mycelium.

Ocular toxoplasmosis manifested itself in following clinical forms: as central serous chorioretinitis, pars planitis, iritis, intrabulbar neuritis and central retinal degeneration. The diagnosis was based on the clinical picture, serological examinations, the course of the disease and the effect of the specific treatment. The authors used piridimide++ compounds, sulfonamides, steroids, folic acid and Tavegyl, Decaris as well as photo-coagulation.

In the course of 489 external dacryocystorhinostomies one found: 19 pseudotumors (granulomas and inflammatory granulations), 6 true tumors (1 papilloma, 1 congenital cyst, 1 lymphoma), 6 cases of calcium deposits and stones and 1 case of epithelial metaplasia. The author points to a great number of pseudotumors which are the effect of a long-standing process of dacryocystitis treated conservatively without effect. She thinks that the surgical treatment should be undertaken as fast as possible.
