Sweet's syndrome (or acute febrile dermatosis) is a neutrophilic dermatosis with a characteristic presentation encompassing specific clinical (fever and erythemato-violaceous oedematous papules, plaques and nodules), laboratory (neutrophilia and increased inflammatory markers), and histological (dermal neutrophilic infiltrate without vasculitis) features. Its pathophysiology is poorly understood but there seems to be an auto-inflammatory component related to mutations in inflammasome genes. It has been subdivided into its classic form, malignancy-associated, and drug-induced, according to its aetiology.

The goal of this paper is to analyze a little-known set of documents referring to a "Dancing Epidemic" that took place in Itapagipe, a suburb of Salvador, capital of the province of Bahia, Brazil, in 1882. Through the studies of a group of physicians, especially Raimundo Nina Rodrigues (1862-1906), a psychiatrist and anthropologist from the Bahia School of Medicine, the medical knowledge built on this unique phenomenon in Brazilian history is examined. The case in particular involved a crowd that spread through the streets of Itapagipe, attracting the interest of the medical classes, who were intrigued by the symptoms of motor incoordination the patients manifested.

PRRXL1 [paired related homeobox-like 1; also known as DRG11 (dorsal root ganglia 11)] is a paired-like homeodomain transcription factor expressed in DRG and dSC (dorsal spinal cord) nociceptive neurons. PRRXL1 is crucial for the establishment and maintenance of nociceptive circuitry, as Prrxl1(-/-) mice present neuronal loss, reduced pain sensitivity and failure to thrive. In the present study, we show that PRRXL1 is highly phosphorylated in vivo, and that its multiple band pattern on electrophoretic analysis is the result of different phosphorylation states.

Familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by systemic extracellular deposition of transthyretin (TTR) amyloid fibrils.
