Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor therapy induces peripheral blood lymphocytosis in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), which lasts for several months. It remains unclear whether nongenetic adaptation mechanisms exist, allowing CLL cells' survival during BTK inhibitor-induced lymphocytosis and/or playing a role in therapy resistance. We show that in approximately 70% of CLL cases, ibrutinib treatment in vivo increases Akt activity above pretherapy levels within several weeks, leading to compensatory CLL cell survival and a more prominent lymphocytosis on therapy.

Multicomponent composites based on natural biopolymers: chitosan, starch and gelatin in two different ratios (0.5:1:1 and 1:1:1) were in situ crosslinked by intermolecular interactions and used as matrices for zinc oxide and magnetite fillers. The bionanocomposite films have been evaluated by spectral and microscopy methods: Fourier-Transform Infrared spectrometry (FT-IR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) confirming the electrostatic and hydrogen bonding interactions between the components of the polymeric matrices and the inorganic fillers and the crosslinking process.

Tribo-mechanical experiments were performed on Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GRFP) composites against different engineering materials, and the tribological behavior of these materials under dry conditions was investigated. Natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES)-hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) self-assembled gels with potential for pharmaceutical applications are prepared. FT-IR, 1HNMR, DSC, TGA and rheology measurements revealed that hydrogen bond acceptor−hydrogen bond donor interactions, concentration of NADES and the water content influence significantly the physico-chemical characteristics of the studied gel systems. HPC-NADES gel compositions have thermal stabilities lower than HPC and higher than NADES components.

Allantoin and its β-cyclodextrin and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes 1:1 have been used to prepare carbopol-based mucoadhesive gels. The gelation process occurred by adjustment with glycerol 10% in the presence of triethanolamine. The structural features induced by the presence of allantoin and the corresponding β-cyclodextrins inclusion complexes have been first investigated by infrared spectroscopy highlighting strong interactions within the gels network and ideal crosslinks for the self-healing behavior.

New mucoadhesive blends of sodium deoxycholate-based poly(ester ether)urethane ionomer (PU) and hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) are prepared. The presence of the intermolecular interactions between the polymeric components has been investigated by FTIR spectroscopy indicating their miscibility in the solid phase. DSC studies also revealed a single glass transition of the blends, which is indicative of miscibility of PU and HPC in the amorphous phase.

MYC was found to be involved in many germinal center derived lymphomas, and more recently in the histological transformation of indolent mature B-cell malignancies, such as follicular lymphoma (FL), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (MALT) to aggressive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Pathological MYC activity gain in lymphomas is able to overcome its regulation by repressors, which leads to bypassing the affinity-based selection of B-cells. Arguably the MYC activity gain is the most constantly observed phenomenon (>70% of cases) in transformed FL/MALT/CLL (Richter's transformation) and co-occurs with specific aberrations such as the loss of p53, CDKN2A/B, or gain of BCL2/BCL6.
