Rare Mandibular Surgical Ciliated Cysts: First Case Reported in a Brazilian.

This reported case represents the first well-documented mandibular surgical ciliated cyst, following orthognathic surgery consisting of a combination of Le Fort I bimaxillary and sagittal osteotomy concomitantly with genioplasty, reported in a Brazilian patient. A case of 43-year-old female presenting a mandibular surgical ciliated cyst after 16 years of an orthognathic surgery, consisting of a combination of Le Fort I osteotomy and genioplasty, is reported. The cystic lesion was enucleated, and the histopathological analysis showed a cystic cavity lined by pseudostratified columnar respiratory-type epithelium presenting ciliated and mucous cells supported by fibrous connective tissue without inflammation.

Mapping Conformational Changes in the Saliva Proteome Potentially Associated with Oral Cancer Aggressiveness.

Diverse proteomics-based strategies have been applied to saliva to quantitatively identify diagnostic and prognostic targets for oral cancer. Considering that these targets may be regulated by events that do not imply variation in protein abundance levels, we hypothesized that changes in protein conformation can be associated with diagnosis and prognosis, revealing biological processes and novel targets of clinical relevance. For this, we employed limited proteolysis-mass spectrometry in saliva samples to explore structural alterations, comparing the proteome of healthy control and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients with and without lymph node metastasis.

Postoperative Imaging of Endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a highly prevalent disease that affects 10%-15% of women of reproductive age worldwide and is mainly associated with chronic pelvic pain and infertility. With the widespread use of imaging for the diagnosis and monitoring of endometriosis, combined with the ability of surgery to eradicate the disease and address infertility, there has been a significant increase in recent years in imaging examinations for postoperative evaluation of endometriosis. US and MRI are used not only to help diagnose and map endometriosis but also to evaluate refractory symptoms, residual lesions, and complications at posttreatment assessment.

Equestrian sports require precise animal welfare and health evaluations. To test the hypothesis that horses maintain their welfare when subjected to two three-barrel (3TB) races with 2 min intervals, an experiment was designed to evaluate their surface temperature using infrared thermography (IRT) in regions of interest (barrel, flank, neck, jaw, corner of the mouth, and ocular caruncle) and also measure blood biomarkers (hemogram, total plasma protein, fibrinogen, urea, creatinine, GGT, CK, cortisol, IL-6, and IL-1β). The aim of this study was to develop artificial neural network (ANN) models to predict floods in the Branco River, Amazon basin. The input data for the models included the river levels and the average rainfall within the drainage area of the basin, which was estimated from the remotely sensed rainfall product PDIRnow. The hourly water level data used in the study were recorded by fluviometric telemetric stations belonging to the National Agency of Water.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation in the treatment of phantom limb pain: a systematic review.

The aim was to characterize the electrovectorcardiographic pattern of ventricular aneurysms in ischemic cardiopathy by analyzing the cardiac ventricular repolarization. The medical records of 2,670 individuals were analyzed in this cross-sectional study. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the expression of the IGF type-1 receptor gene (IGF-1r) and IGF-I, GH, testosterone, and IGFBP-3 concentrations in young people subjected to 10 weeks of muscle hypertrophy training.

Methods: IGF-1r expression, serum concentrations of IGF-I, IGFBP-3, GH, and total testosterone, as well as body composition, fat percentage, and body mass index, were determined for 22 healthy young males at three moments of resistance training (first, fifth, and tenth week of training).

Results: Throughout the 10 weeks of training, a reduction was observed in the relative expression of the IGF-1r gene (2) and an increase in IGF-I and GH concentrations.

Exploiting the Physicochemical and Antimicrobial Properties of PHB/PEG and PHB/PEG/ALG-e Blends Loaded with Ag Nanoparticles.

Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB)-based films containing Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), esterified sodium alginate (ALG-e) and polymeric additives loaded with Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) were obtained by a conventional casting method. AgNPs were produced in aqueous suspension and added to polymeric gels using a phase exchange technique. Composite formation was confirmed by finding the Ag peak in the XRD pattern of PHB.

Non-invasive methods for iron overload evaluation in dysmetabolic patients.

Introduction: Although hyperferritinemia may reflect the inflammatory status of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), approximately 33% of hyperferritinemia cases reflect real hepatic iron overload.

Aim: To evaluate a non-invasive method for assessing mild iron overload in patients with NAFLD using 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) relaxometry, serum hepcidin, and the expression of ferritin subunits.

Methods: This cross-sectional study assessed patients with biopsy-proven NAFLD.

Surface aspects and multifractal features of 3D spatial patterns of low-cost Amazon açaí-loaded kefir microbial films.

In this study, açaí-loaded kefir microbial films obtained in solutions containing demerara sugar, a low-cost and relatively organic sugar, were prepared. Environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), stereometric and multifractal analyses were applied to study the influence of the concentration of açaí over the surface morphology as well as its multifractal nature. The ESEM and AFM images showed that low concentrations of acai berry form surface covered by bacteria, while higher concentrations promote yeast growth.
