How people think and feel about their neighborhood impacts the way they think of themselves and their futures. These linkages are especially important to understand in the case of urban-residing young Black women. Researchers know very little about what contributes to young Black adults' urban neighborhood perceptions and often rely on "expert" definitions of markers of neighborhood quality.

The human malaria parasite requires exogenous fatty acids to support its growth during the pathogenic, asexual erythrocytic stage. Host serum lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) is a significant fatty acid source, yet the metabolic processes responsible for the liberation of free fatty acids from exogenous LPC are unknown. Using an assay for LPC hydrolysis in -infected erythrocytes, we have identified small-molecule inhibitors of key in situ lysophospholipase activities.

In attending to these concerns, we measured whether fear of COVID-19, general feelings of mistrust, and race-specific mistrust of the government and healthcare providers are indirectly associated with COVID-19 vaccination status via anxiety among Black Americans. We analyzed responses from 996 Black adults who participated in the AmeriSpeak panel - a nationally representative probability-based sample recruited from the National Opinion Research Center from April-June 2022.

The ways in which Black emerging adults perceive and evaluate their neighborhoods may be impacted by a host of social and political factors that interplay with their social identities, the social identities of other urban residents, and their time in the area. Early literature on Black emerging adults' perceived neighborhood quality (PNQ) tended to make comparisons to White people and to focus disproportionately on the perceptions of low-income Black people residing in predominately racial/ethnic minority and underresourced communities. Subsequent work on subjective neighborhood assessment has considered specific features of neighborhoods, such as safety or disorder, but a general sense of the quality of one's neighborhood features is still underexplored.

Objectives: Research on prosocial behavior among Black¹ Americans should account for the daily realities that many face, including racial discrimination and cultural resources which may provide sources of resilience amidst injustice, such as religiosity and spirituality. We assessed whether racial discrimination, religiosity, and existential well-being (EWB) are related to the odds of engaging in prosocial behaviors for Black men.
Method: Using data from a community-dwelling sample of 171 Black men in the United States, we used logistic regression tests to assess whether racial discrimination, organizational religiosity, personal religiosity, and EWB were associated with Black men's volunteering, mentoring, and charitable giving.
Lipophilicity can be measured with different methods, such as Shake-Flask or liquid chromatography. HPLC presents the advantage of overcoming solubility issues and therefore extending the range of lipophilicity to high values. A specific HPLC method, called ELogD, had been developed 20 years ago on a C-amide stationary phase, enhancing hydrophobic and hydrogen bond interactions to mimic octanol-water partition.

Antimalarial candidates possessing novel mechanisms of action are needed to control drug resistant Plasmodium falciparum. We were drawn to Malaria Box compound 1 (MMV665831) by virtue of its excellent in vitro potency, and twelve analogs were prepared to probe its structure-activity relationship. Modulation of the diethyl amino group was fruitful, producing compound 25, which was twice as potent as 1 against cultured parasites.

Aims: We examined the protective role of academic mentors for Latino/a youth exposed to community violence. We tested whether the mentor facilitation of positive growth and mentor school involvement moderated the relations between exposure to violence and Latino/a youth's educational values, school effort, and academic efficacy.
Methods: We used hierarchical linear regressions to examine these relations among 210 Latino/a high school students.

The fluid events model is a behavioural model aimed at predicting the likelihood that people will change their actions in ongoing, interactive events. From this view, not only are people responding to aspects of the environment, but they are also basing responses on prior experiences. The fluid events model is an attempt to predict the likelihood that people will shift the type of actions taken within an event on a trial-by-trial basis, taking into account both event structure and experience-based factors.

The objective of this study was to determine whether continuous, long-term, fenceline exposure of prepubertal beef bulls to cycling beef females reduced age at puberty and influenced the percentage of bulls that passed an initial breeding soundness examination (BSE). This study was conducted to determine whether 1) read distance of low-frequency radio frequency identification (RFID) transceivers is affected by type of transponder being interrogated; 2) read distance variation of low-frequency RFID transceivers is affected by transceiver manufacturer; and 3) read distance of various transponder-transceiver manufacturer combinations meet the 2004 United States Animal Identification Plan (USAIP) bovine standards subcommittee minimum read distance recommendation of 60 cm. Twenty-four transceivers (n = 5 transceivers per manufacturer for Allflex, Boontech, Farnam, and Osborne; n = 4 transceivers for Destron Fearing) were tested with 60 transponders [n = 10 transponders per type for Allflex full duplex B (FDX-B), Allflex half duplex (HDX), Destron Fearing FDX-B, Farnam FDX-B, and Y-Tex FDX-B; n = 6 for Temple FDX-B (EM Microelectronic chip); and n = 4 for Temple FDX-B (HiTag chip)] presented in the parallel orientation.

From Day 0 to 4 of the treatment period, females without functional corpora lutea were treated with varying doses of progesterone to result in varying concentrations of progesterone within the typical physiological range in blood. From Day 4 to 7, cattle were treated with a single dose of progesterone to achieve a similar circulating concentration of progesterone among all females in the study.
