Objectives: CALGB140503/JCOG0802 RCTs comparing lobectomy with sublobar resection in stage IA NSCLC have confirmed the non-inferiority of segmentectomy. Additional insight is needed to improve preoperative work-up and intraoperative strategies to increase safety and promote the dissemination of minimally invasive segmentectomy (MIS). A Delphi panel study assessed the level of consensus among surgeons for the planning and management of MIS.

Science diplomacy enables countries to jointly address pressing global challenges, such as climate change, pandemics, and food security. Open science, promoting accessible and transparent research, plays a pivotal role in this context.

Methods: Patients who underwent segmentectomy for any indication between January 2018 and May 2023 were identified using a prospectively maintained institutional database.

We present ProtoColVR, a methodology and a plugin designed for gathering requirements and collaborative rapid prototyping of virtual reality training simulators. Our methodology outlines the utilization of current technologies, the involvement of stakeholders during design and development, and the implementation of simulator creation through multiple iterations. We incorporate open-source tools and freely available environments like Twine and Unity to establish a reference implementation for requirements gathering and rapid prototyping.

Design: randomized controlled clinical trial.
Setting: Intensive Care Unit.
The role of lithium as a possible therapeutic strategy for neurodegenerative diseases has generated scientific interest. We systematically reviewed and meta-analyzed pre-clinical and clinical studies that evidenced the neuroprotective effects of lithium in Alzheimer's (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). We followed the PRISMA guidelines and performed the systematic literature search using PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library.

In this review, we will discuss new diagnostic techniques for lung cancer, innovations in surgery, and major updates on latest treatment options including immunotherapy. All these have significantly started to change our approach toward the management of lung cancer and have great potential to improve the lives of our patients afflicted with this disease.

Our previous work found that mutation of zebrafish , which encodes a transcriptional mediator of the Wnt signaling pathway, leads to the loss of hypothalamic neurons and behavioral phenotypes that are both associated with stress-related human mood disorders However, the specific Lef1 target genes that link neurogenesis to behavior remain unknown. One candidate is , which encodes a transcription factor with known roles in hypothalamic development.

Methods: We performed an institutional review board-exempt retrospective chart review on prospectively collected databases at two North American centers, from January 2012 to December 2020.
Background: The solitary cutaneous mastocytoma is a variant of cutaneous mastocytosis which carries a good prognosis. It may develop at a very early age, during the first weeks of life, or even be congenital. Typically, they present as red-brownish lesions that may be asymptomatic or present systemic manifestations associated with histamine release.

In the eighth edition TNM staging, the T3N0M0 category represents a heterogeneous group of non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC). This study aims to compare the oncologic outcomes associated with individual T3 features. We performed a single-institution, retrospective analysis of 280 consecutive patients with pT3N0M0 NSCLC.

This mobility can allow the development of human talent and the access to first class infrastructure and resources, but it can also mean a loss for emerging economies due to the phenomenon of brain drain. To counteract this situation, some countries in Latin America and the Caribbean have developed models for the articulation of their scientific diaspora in projects and programs, with the aim of exchanging knowledge and capitalizing on human and technical resources to advance science, technology and innovation systems.

However, it remains unclear whether thyroid dysfunctions could influence and contribute to the beginning and/or progression of AD or if it results from AD. This systematic review was conducted to examine the association between thyroid hormone (TH) levels and AD.

We combined transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs)-mediated mutagenesis with a targeting construct to enable insertion of a gfp transgene into the endogenous nkx2.

Background: Although observational studies suggest an association between transfusion of older red blood cell (RBC) units and increased postoperative risk, randomized trials have not supported this. The objective of this randomized trial was to test the effect of RBC storage age on outcomes after cardiac surgery.
Methods: From July 2007 to May 2016, 3835 adults undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting, cardiac valve procedures, or ascending aorta repair, either alone or in combination, were randomized to transfusion of RBCs stored for ≤14 days (younger units) or for ≥20 days (older units) intraoperatively and throughout the postoperative hospitalization.
