The posteroinferior region of the thalamus is formed by the pulvinar, and it is surgically accessed through the infratentorial supracerebellar approach, between the midline and the retromastoid region. This study aimed to compare the paramedian, lateral, extreme lateral, and contralateral paramedian corridors with the posteroinferior thalamus through a suboccipital craniotomy and an infratentorial supracerebellar access. Ten cadavers were studied, and the microsurgical dissections were accompanied by the measurement of the variables using a neuronavigation system.

Recent reports showed that chemical sanitizers commonly used to control these pathogens could induce antibiotic resistance. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the efficiency of chemical sanitizers and organic acids when inactivating wild and clinical strains of and , targeting a 4-log reduction.

Biomarkers that can track these lesions and inflammatory processes are being explored for their potential to provide objective measures in the evaluation of TBI, from prehospital care to rehabilitation. By understanding the pathways involved, we could be able to improve diagnostic accuracy, guide management, and prevent long-term disability.

Cognitive training is a non-pharmacological intervention that can promote neural compensation mechanisms and strategies to remediate cognitive impairments. The aims of this study were: (1) To investigate the cognitive performance, generalization effects, and neural correlates of semantic organization strategy training (SOST) in patients with chronic left frontoparietal stroke and healthy controls (HC); and (2) to compare the behavioral effects and neural correlates of SOST with an active control psychoeducation intervention (PI).

Methods: Adult patients (n = 30) were given subtherapeutic doses of CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 phenotypic probes metoprolol (10 mg) and omeprazole (2 mg) in three different stages of vivax malaria illness: acute disease (study phase 1), post chemotherapy (phase 2) and convalescence (stage 3). Plasma concentrations of probes and CYP-hydroxylated metabolites (α-OH metoprolol and 5-OH omeprazole) were measured using LC/MS/MS.
Purpose: To synthesize niobium silicate particles (SiNb) and incorporate into resin-based luting agents.
Methods: SiNb particles were synthesized and characterized by x-ray diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy, particle size, and specific surface area. Luting agents were formulated with 50 wt% BisGMA, 30 wt% TEGDMA and 20 wt% UDMA.
The localizationist model, which focused on classical cortical areas such as Broca's and Wernicke's, can no longer explain how language processing works. Over recent years, several studies have revealed new language-related cortical and subcortical areas, resulting in a transition from localizationist concepts to a hodotopical model. These studies have described language processing as an extensive and complex network of multiple interconnected cortical areas and subcortical pathways, differing from the classical circuit described by the localizationist perspective.

A clinical and radiological cross-sectional evaluation of 65 shoulders with rotator cuff arthropathy by measuring the range of motion (RoM) of the shoulder, the Constant-Murley score, and the radiological classifications of Hamada and Seebauer. The clinical findings were compared with the radiographic findings.

Methods: We selected articles, published from January 1944 to December 2018 on the Medical databases (Web of Sciences, Medline and EMBASE) and included case series and reports.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia associated with high risk of venous thromboembolism. Inflammatory mechanisms may be involved in the pathophysiology of AF and in the AF-related thrombogenesis, and patients with AF might benefit from the use of anticoagulants with anti-inflammatory properties. However, the evidence is still scarce, and it points out the need of trials seeking to investigate the levels of inflammatory mediators in patients with AF under different anticoagulant therapies.

The reaction was carried out at room temperature, in a homogeneous aqueous medium, using as a source of alkyl group an essential oil (Eucalyptus staigeriana) containing an unsaturated aldehyde (3,7-dimethylocta-2,6-dienal). Derivatives were characterized by Infrared Spectroscopy, proton and carbon Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, XRD, particle size distribution and zeta potential.

Background: Steroid use for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is based on the possible role of these drugs in mitigating the inflammatory response, mainly in the lungs, triggered by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of methylprednisolone (MP) among hospitalized patients with suspected COVID-19.
Methods: A parallel, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized, Phase IIb clinical trial was performed with hospitalized patients aged ≥18 years with clinical, epidemiological, and/or radiological suspected COVID-19 at a tertiary care facility in Manaus, Brazil.
Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics of children and adolescents admitted to intensive care with confirmed COVID-19.
Method: Prospective, multicenter, observational study, in 19 pediatric intensive care units. Patients aged 1 month to 19 years admitted consecutively (March-May 2020) were included.
In the sustainable management of Amazonian forests, it is essential to carry out the optimal planning of logging infrastructures to reduce costs and environmental impacts. However, there is a high degree of complexity due to the number of variables involved. Among these infrastructures, wood storage yards are of utmost importance as they directly influence the opening of forest roads and trails.

Although rare, this anomaly, characterized with neural herniation elements, including the pituitary gland or optic pathway through the sphenoid bone with anatomical alteration, can be presented in many different ways and should be individually analyzed. Significant advances in medical technology and the 3D models may simulate the complex anatomical relations of the human body.

Introduction: Decompressive craniectomy (DC) in severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with acute and late complications. To avoid these complications, we proposed a technical modification in DC. In this paper analyze a series of patients underwent to surgical treatment for acute subdural hematoma (ASDH).

In this work, magnetic restricted-access carbon nanotubes (M-RACNTs) were synthesized, characterized and used in the dispersive solid-phase extraction (d-SPE) of organophosphate pesticides (OPPs) from food samples (broccoli, eggplant, cauliflower, and soy milk), followed by spectrophotometric determination in a flow injection analysis system. FeO nanoparticles were incorporated in the multi-walled carbon nanotubes employing dimethylformamide. The dimethylformamide was used as a solvent in the incorporation process, forming the suspension of both particles.
