Background: Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2) is an important cofactor for HIV acquisition and transmission. Associations between the infections are reexamined in longitudinal data from an HIV prevention trial.
Methods: The HPTN 071 (PopART) trial evaluated a combination prevention intervention in 21 urban communities in Zambia and South Africa.
Introduction: The BIC-T&T study aimed to determine the efficacy of bictegraviremtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (BIC/F/TAF) and darunavir/cobicistat/emtricitabinetenofovir alafenamide (DRV/c/F/TAF) at suppressing viral load in a two-arm, open-label, multi-centre, randomised trial under a UK test-and-treat setting. This sub-study aimed to evaluate potential off-target cardiovascular impact by examining platelet function.
Methods: Platelets were isolated by centrifugation of citrated blood from participants attending Chelsea and Westminster Hospital or St Mary's Hospital at Week 48 following enrolment.
Online child sexual exploitation refers to the use of technology to sexually exploit or harm a person under age 18. In 2020, over 21.7 million reports of online child sexual enticement were filed with law enforcement, highlighting the alarming prevalence of this form of exploitation.

Using samples from a randomized-controlled human clinical trial evaluating therapeutic HIV-1 vaccines, we here show that early ART commencement is frequently associated with accelerated and efficient selection of genome-intact HIV-1 proviruses in repressive chromatin locations during the first year after treatment initiation. This selection process was unaffected by vaccine-induced HIV-1-specific T cell responses.

HIV controllers maintain low VLs in the absence of antiretroviral therapy (ART). We previously used a massively multiplexed antibody profiling assay (VirScan) to compare antibody profiles in HIV controllers and persons living with HIV (PWH) who were virally suppressed on ART.

Purpose Of Review: Although current treatment could eradicate vertical transmission, in 2022, 130 000 infants acquired HIV globally. HIV suppression with antiretroviral therapy (ART) transforms survival for people living with HIV (PLWH), and prevents transmission, including vertical. International guidelines recommend lifelong ART for PLWH, consequently perinatal HIV acquisition reflects implementation gaps in the HIV care cascade.

We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to identify the impact of ATI with or without novel therapeutics in cure-related studies on the time to viral re-suppression following ART restart.
Methods: Medline, Embase and Web of Science databases were searched for human studies involving ATIs from 1 January 2015 till 22 April 2024.
This study aims to understand the impact of early antiretroviral therapy (ART) on HIV-specific T-cell responses measured after treatment interruption, which may inform strategies to deliver ART-free immune-mediated viral suppression. HIV-specific T-cell immunity was analysed using gamma interferon enzyme-linked immunospot assays in two studies. SPARTAC included individuals with primary HIV infection randomised to 48 weeks of ART (n = 24) or no immediate therapy (n = 37).

Therefore, community-wide universal testing and treatment for HIV (UTT) could contribute to TB control, but evidence for this is limited. Community-wide TB screening can decrease population-level TB prevalence.

We report the impact of the intervention on coverage of key SRH services among AYP.
Methods: The trial was conducted from Jul 2019-Oct 2021 in two urban communities in Lusaka, Zambia, divided into 20 zones (~ 2350 AYP/zone).
One quarter of the world's population is estimated to be infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Identifying recent TB infection (TBI) offers an avenue to targeted TB preventative therapy provision, and prevention to disease progression. However, detecting recent TBI remains challenging.

In resourced settings, adults living with perinatally acquired HIV are approaching the 5th decade of life. Their clinical and psychological outcomes highlight potential future issues for the much larger number of adolescents growing up with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa, and will inform the development of appropriate healthcare services. Lifelong exposure to HIV, and increasingly to antiretroviral therapy throughout growth and development, contrasts with adults acquiring HIV in later life.

We aimed to evaluate neuroinflammation, using translocator protein (TSPO) [C]PBR28 PET neuroimaging in PWH who initiated ART during acute HIV (aPWH) versus chronic HIV infection (cPWH) versus a control population.

Among these, 10-1074 has shown potential in neutralising a wide range of HIV strains. However, resistant viruses may limit the clinical efficacy of 10-1074.

We report hospitalisation rates and explored predictive factors for hospitalisation in adolescents and adults (10-35 years) living with PaHIV in England.
Method: Retrospective observational cohort study over a three-year period 2016-2019.
Young adults with perinatally acquired HIV (PAH) face numerous challenges, including antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence, managing onward HIV transmission risks and maintaining wellbeing. Sharing one's HIV status with others (onward HIV disclosure) may assist with these challenges but this is difficult. We developed and tested the feasibility of an intervention to help HIV status sharing decision-making for young adults with PAH.

In a cluster-randomised trial, we evaluated whether offering syndromic STI screening through community-based, peer-led sexual and reproductive health services (Yathu Yathu) with referral to a local health facility for testing, increased self-reported testing for STIs (other than HIV) among AYP. Two communities in Lusaka were divided into 10 zones each (20 zones in total); by community, zones were randomly allocated (1:1) to Yathu Yathu or control.

We determined whether a four-question primary care level screening tool, validated for use in clinical settings, could enhance community (door-to-door) identification of undiagnosed HIV-positive younger adolescents (aged 10-14) who are frequently left out of HIV interventions.
Method: Community HIV-care Providers (CHiPs) contacted and consented adolescents in their homes and offered them participation in the PopART intervention.
