Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the effectiveness of acupuncture in alleviating pain and improving function, range of motion, and quality of life in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS), compared to sham acupuncture.
  • A randomized controlled trial with 80 participants showed that the acupuncture group experienced significant improvements in all measured outcomes, including pain and range of motion, over the control group.
  • The findings suggest that acupuncture is a safe and effective non-invasive treatment option for SIS, with benefits lasting at least one month after treatment.

Background: Delayed radiation-induced motor neuron syndrome (DRIMNS) is an atypical motor neuron disorder that develops months or years after radiation therapy. In this study we present a case of DRIMNS that developed forty years after radiotherapy and to discuss differential diagnoses.

Case Presentation: A 56-year-old male patient was admitted to our clinic with complaints of increasing difficulty in walking for the past year.

Ultrasound (US)-guided suprascapular nerve block (SSNB) is a widely used procedure and while describing the US-guided SSNB in the suprascapular notch, the suprascapular fossa is often visualized and injection is performed in that location. Although it can be done in both location, to inject the right area, the terminology should be settled and the visualization of these areas which are unclear and confusing in the literature should be clarified. In this sense, we showed the course of the nerve on a cadaver and briefly describe a protocol to correctly visualize the suprascapular notch with US.

Introduction: Variations in osseous, neural and muscular anatomical structures in the gluteal region have been investigated for their role in causing deep gluteal pain syndromes including piriformis syndrome. This study aimed to radiologically determine whether the femoral neck-shaft angle (NSA) in piriformis syndrome differs from that in a healthy population.

Methods: Two groups of participants comprising 23 piriformis syndrome patients and 22 healthy controls were included in the present study.

Article Synopsis
  • * Sixty-six patients were randomly assigned to one of the two medications, and their progress was measured using various scales over a period of 12 weeks.
  • * Results showed improvements in pain and functional scores for both medications after 4 weeks, with some enhancements in mental health and sleep quality observed at different intervals, suggesting that these medications can effectively help manage osteoarthritis symptoms.

Background: Failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) is the term of persistent back and/or leg pain after lumbar surgery. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (r-TMS) is a technique that allows noninvasive and relatively painless stimulation of cerebral cortex. It can reduce the experience of chronic pain by producing the small electrical currents in the cortex via magnetic field.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze the demographics, causes, and risk factors related to low back pain (LBP) in 106 children and adolescents who visited a clinic from 2014-2018.
  • Out of the participants, most were diagnosed with non-specific LBP, whereas others had conditions like lumbar disc herniation and scoliosis; only a few required surgical intervention, while conservative treatments were mainly effective.
  • The findings highlight that low back pain is common among youth, primarily due to mechanical issues rather than serious underlying conditions, contrary to popular beliefs.

Objectives: Hallux valgus (HV) is a progressive foot deformity in which the first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint is affected. The relationship between the dome height of the first metatarsal head and the HV deformity has not been studied previously. This study aimed to investigate a possible relation of the dome height of the first metatarsal head with articular alignment and the hallux valgus angle (HVA), which is frequently used to evaluate HV.

Background: Meralgia paresthetica (MP) is an entrapment mononeuropathy of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN), in which conservative treatment options are not always sufficient.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of ultrasound (US)-guided LFCN injection in the management of MP by comparing with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) therapy and sham TENS therapy.

Study Design: A prospective, randomized, sham-controlled study.

Gorham-Stout disease is a rare bone resorption disease, the etiology and prognosis of which is uncertain but it is thought to be benign. It can involve one or more bones and can cause pain, swelling, deformity and fractures in affected bones. Diagnosis is made with a combination of clinical, radiological and histopathological examinations once other causes of osteolysis have been excluded.

Pregnancy-related osteoporosis (PRO) is an uncommon metabolic bone disease that can result in vertebral fragility fractures. Here we report two cases of young women who had been previously treated with LMWH-enoxaparin and were diagnosed with PRO with vertebral fragility fractures after delivery. In first case report, a 33-year-old primigravid woman who was treated with 40 mg/day of enoxaparin for eight months to prevent venous thromboembolism was presented.

The Spinal Cord Injury Spasticity Evaluation Tool is a 7-day recall self-reported questionnaire that assesses the problematic and useful effects of spasticity on daily life in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). We aimed to determine the reliability and cross-cultural validation of the Turkish translation of the Spinal Cord Injury Spasticity Evaluation Tool (SCI-SETT). After translation and back translation of the Spinal Cord Injury Spasticity Evaluation Tool, 66 patients between the ages of 18 and 88 years with SCI, American Spinal Injury Association impairment scale grades from A to D with spasticity, and at least 6 months after injury were assessed.

Following median and ulnar nerves, peroneal nerve entrapment is the most frequent nerve involvement in the body Katirji and Wilbourn (1998) [1]. Osteochondromas are the most common benign bone tumors comprising 9% of all bone tumors and 35% of benign bone tumors Porter (2000) [2]. Hereditary exostoses (HME) is an autosomal dominant disorder with variable penetrance characterized by multiple osteochondromas near joints.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether transitional vertebrae contribute to the development of sacroiliac joint dysfunction. The prevalence of transitional vertebrae in patients with lumbar pain was determined during this process, and the prevalence of sacroiliac dysfunction was compared between patients with low back pain and healthy volunteers.

Methods: 700 subjects, 500 with low back pain and 200 healthy volunteers were included in this study.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), the most common entrapment neuropathy in adulthood, is rare in childhood. The symptoms may differ to those in adults, or may be misinterpreted owing to children's difficulties in expressing themselves. Cases of idiopathic, bilateral CTS under the age of 5 are rare.

Ulnar nerve entrapment at the elbow (UNE) is the second most common entrapment neuropathy of the arm. Conservative treatment is the treatment of choice in mild to moderate cases. Elbow splints and avoiding flexion of the involved elbow constitute majority of the conservative treatment; indeed, there is no other non-invasive treatment modality.
