The histories of the global anti-apartheid struggle, and particularly the British Anti-Apartheid Movement (AAM), have predominantly been examined through a transnational and national prism, creating an inaccurate impression of a highly centralized and homogeneous movement. We argue, however, that refining the analysis to focus on the local setting reveals a more complex and diverse movement, which has not been fully captured in the existing scholarship. Using Dundee as a case study, this article charts the emergence, character, and evolution of anti-apartheid sentiment and activity in this small, peripheral industrial Scottish city.

However, WBRT is associated with cognitive deterioration. Postoperative stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) has emerged due to its neurocognitive preservation benefits.

Multi-resistant pathogens are a major public health issue in burn centers. Mortality increases when the initial antibiotic treatment is inappropriate, especially if the patient is infected with strains that are resistant to many antibiotics.

In this retrospective study, we analyzed patients treated by SRT for a single BM during their first SRT session and we compared two subgroups: "Cohort 1" with patients did not undergo cerebral re-irradiation and "Cohort 2" with patients received at least one subsequent SRT session for cerebral recurrence.
Methods: We included patients who received SRT for a single BM between January 2010 and June 2020.
Introduction: Soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities (ESTSs) pose significant challenges in treatment and management due to their diverse nature and potential complications. This study aimed to assess complications associated with multimodal treatments involving surgery and radiotherapy (RT) and to identify potential risk factors.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed nonmetastatic ESTS patients treated with surgery and pre- or post-operative RT between 2007 and 2020 in Strasbourg, France.
Background And Purpose: Stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT) is commonly used to treat brain metastases (BMs). This retrospective study compared two SRT techniques, dynamic conformal arc therapy (DCAT) and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), for single BM treatments.
Material And Methods: Data of patients treated between January 2010 and June 2020 were considered.
Here, we present a protocol for microinjection of bacteria into mouse small intestinal organoids that recapitulates the natural route of infection of intestinal epithelial cells from the intestinal lumen. We describe steps for visualizing bacteria-cell interactions by live imaging of infected organoids using light sheet microscopy. We then detail procedures for generating doxycycline-inducible expression of mutant proteins in organoids to study essential gene functions.

Despite this efficacy, the risk of distant brain metastases (BM) one year after SRT ranges from 26% to 77% and 20 to 40% of patients required salvage treatment. The role and consequences of reirradiation remain unclear, particularly in terms of survival.

Breast and thoracic irradiation, for instance, can unintentionally expose the heart to radiation, leading to damage at the cellular level within the myocardial structures. Detecting and monitoring radiation-induced heart disease early on is crucial, and several radionuclide imaging techniques have shown promise in this regard.

Their management is debatable due to their inconsistent results within the literature and the lack of large prospective studies. The objective of this systematic review is to analyze the available scientific data on prognostic factors concerning the characteristics of the patients, the disease and the treatments performed, as well as their potential complications, on studies with a median follow-up of 5 years at minimum.

This review aims to identify the dosimetric factors of each technique to determine whether one should be preferred over another for single BMs treatment. A systematic literature review on articles published between January 2015 and January 2022 was conducted using the MEDLINE and ScienceDirect databases, following the PRISMA methodology, using the keywords "dosimetric comparison" and "brain metastases".

To mitigate these risks, cardiac-sparing techniques such as deep-inspiration breath-hold (DIBH) and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) have been developed. However, recent studies have shown that mean heart dose is not a sufficient dosimetric parameter for assessing cardiac exposure.

In this report, we present a fatal case due to chronic bronchopulmonary infection in a lung transplant recipient with common variable immunodeficiency despite successful eradication of an extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strain with IgM/IgA-enriched immunoglobulins and bacteriophage therapy. The fatal evolution despite a drastic adaptation of the immunosuppressive regimen and the maximal antibiotic therapy strategy raises the question of the contraindication of lung transplantation in such a context of primary immunodeficiency.

Recent studies have shown that subclinical cardiac lesions, such as myocardial perfusion deficits, may occur early after radiotherapy. The primary method for irradiating breast cancer, known as opposite tangential field radiotherapy, can cause the anterior interventricular coronary artery to receive a high dose of radiation during left breast irradiation.

We performed a preclinical study to predict the efficacy of delivery of bacteriophages against (PA) when administered via nebulization during mechanical ventilation (MV). We selected a mix of four anti-PA phages containing two and two with a coverage of 87.

WHO, Karnofsky performance status (KPS), age, number of BMs, extracerebral progression (ECP), recursive partitioning analysis (RPA), diagnosis-specific graded prognostic assessment (Ds-GPA) are validated prognostic tools to help clinicians decide on treatment. No consensus exists for repeat stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) for BMs.

SRT is not exempt from acute toxicity, and the acute toxicities of repeated SRT are not well known. The objective of this study was to analyze the acute toxicities of repeated courses of SRT and to determine whether repeated SRT could lead to cumulative brain doses equivalent to those of whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT).

The prognosis of patients in this stage also appears to be intermediate. Lung stereotactic body radiotherapy is a possible tool for treating oligometastatic lung sites.

Volumetric approaches were evaluated for a more accurate estimation of tumor size. This study included 57 patients and compared two volume measurement methods to determine the size of different glioblastoma regions of interest: the contrast-enhancing area, the necrotic area, the gross target volume and the volume of the edema area.

The purpose of this study was to analyze cerebral progression-free survival (C-PFS) and LR of BM among patients treated with repeated courses of radiotherapy in stereotactic conditions.
Methods And Materials: We retrospectively reviewed data from 184 patients treated for 915 BMs with at least two courses of SRT without previous WBRT.
Purpose: Real life study of prognostic factors of acute radiodermatitis in a monocentric cohort of 200 patients with breast cancer treated with RT3D or IMRT for adjuvant radiotherapy.
Patients And Methods: This study comprises 200 patients with breast cancer treated with adjuvant radiotherapy, included consecutively. For each patient, their clinical and tumoral characteristics and the irradiation schedule was retrospectively collected.
The number of patients with metallic implant and treated with radiotherapy is constantly increasing. These hardware are responsible for the deterioration in the quality of the CT images used at each stage of the radiation therapy, during delineation, dosimetry and dose delivery. We present the update of the recommendations of the French society of oncological radiotherapy on the pros and cons of the different methods, existing and under evaluation, which limit the impact of metallic implants on the quality and safety of radiation treatments.
