The synthesis of differently substituted polyferrocenylmethylenes (PFM) via ring-opening transmetalation polymerization (ROTP) is reported. A number of novel, symmetrically and asymmetrically substituted carba[1]magnesocenophanes have been prepared, which were used as precursors and allowed investigations of the influence of different substitution patterns on the PFM polymer properties. The novel carba[1]magnesocenophanes have been fully characterized by H and C{H} NMR spectroscopy, and structurally authenticated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD).

The synthesis of a water-soluble polycobaltoceniumylmethylene chloride (PCM-Cl) via ring-opening transmetalation polymerization is presented. Starting from a carba[1]magnesocenophane and cobalt(II) chloride, this route gives access to a polymer with methylene-bridged cobaltocenium moieties within the polymers' main-chain. The polymer was characterized by NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, TGA, DSC, XRD, and CV measurements, as well as UV-vis spectroscopy.

Aims: Exercise training (ET) has been consistently shown to increase peak oxygen consumption (V̇O ) in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF); however, inter-individual responses vary significantly. Because it is unlikely that ET-induced improvements in peak V̇O are significantly mediated by an increase in peak heart rate (HR), we aimed to investigate whether baseline peak O -pulse (V̇O  × HR , reflecting the product of stroke volume and arteriovenous oxygen difference), not baseline peak V̇O , is inversely associated with the change in peak V̇O (adjusted by body weight) following ET versus guideline control (CON) in patients with HFpEF.

Methods And Results: Twenty patients in functional NYHA class III performed activities of daily life (ADL, n = 10) or participated in a single, standardized, 60 min rehabilitation exercise unit (REU, n = 10) with and without the Myosuit. The outcome assessment included the evaluation of vital signs, adverse events, rates of perceived exertion and dyspnoea (RPE, RPD), the ability to perform ADL or REU, and the individual acceptability.

Based on analyses in Arabidopsis thaliana ecotype C24, the AtSUC1 protein was previously characterised as a male gametophyte-specific H(+)/sucrose symporter. Later, expression analyses in ecotype Columbia-0 (Col-0) identified AtSUC1 expression also in trichomes (not detected in trichome-less C24 plants) and roots, suggesting ecotype-specific differences in AtSUC1 expression. Abscisic acid (ABA) and sugars regulate many aspects of plant growth and development, and we are only just beginning to understand the complex interactions between ABA and sugar signaling networks. Here, we show that ABA-dependent transcription factors bind to the promoter of the Arabidopsis thaliana AtSUC1 (At1g71880) sucrose transporter gene in vitro. We present the characterization of a cis-regulatory element by truncation of the AtSUC1 promoter and by electrophoretic mobility shift assays that is identical to a previously characterized ABA-responsive element (ABRE).

Transgenic Arabidopsis plants were constructed to express a range of GFP-fusion proteins (36-67 kDa) under the companion cell (CC)-specific AtSUC2 promoter. These plants were used to monitor the trafficking of these GFP-fusion proteins from the CCs into the sieve elements (SEs) and their subsequent translocation within and out of the phloem. The results revealed a large size exclusion limit (SEL) (>67 kDa) for the plasmodesmata connecting SEs and CCs in the loading phloem.
