Purpose: To develop a safe and noninvasive in vivo assay of hepatic propionate oxidative capacity.
Methods: A modified 1-C-propionate breath test was administered to 57 methylmalonic acidemia (MMA) subjects, including 19 transplant recipients, and 16 healthy volunteers. Isotopomer enrichment (CO/CO) was measured in exhaled breath after an enteral bolus of sodium-1-C-propionate, and normalized for CO production.
Introduction: Uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI) in women is a common reason to present in general practice and is usually treated with antibiotics to reduce symptom severity and duration. Results of recent clinical trials indicate that non-antibiotic treatment approaches can also be effective. Here, we describe the identification and synthesis of novel indole sulfonamide derivatives that activate the three peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPAR) isoforms. Starting with a PPARα activator, compound 4, identified during a high throughput screening (HTS) of our proprietary screening library, a systematic optimization led to the discovery of lanifibranor (IVA337) 5, a moderately potent and well balanced pan PPAR agonist with an excellent safety profile. In vitro and in vivo, compound 5 demonstrated strong activity in models that are relevant to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) pathophysiology suggesting therapeutic potential for NASH patients.

Our data fusion approach uses bias removal and weighted linear averaging that incorporates and spatializes the biomass patterns indicated by the reference data. The method was applied independently in areas (strata) with homogeneous error patterns of the input (Saatchi and Baccini) maps, which were estimated from the reference data and additional covariates.

While one traditional indication for open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of clavicle fractures was tenting of the skin because of concern for an impending open fracture, recent review materials indicate that this complication may only be theoretical. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this complication has never been reported for a midshaft clavicle fracture. Background: Increased tendon production of the inflammatory mediator prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) has been suggested to be a potential etiologic agent in the development of tendinopathy. Repeated injection of PGE2 into tendon has been proposed as a potential animal model for studying treatments for tendinopathy.
