Understanding the structure of a functional catalyst is crucial to disclosing the complexity of heterogeneous processes and improving their efficiency. Herein, coprecipitated cobalt-ceria (CoCeO) oxides doped with Ir (IrCoCeO) were synthesized and used to assess the performances of metal/oxide interfaces in the NH·HO decomposition performed in aqueous NaOH. Kinetic experiments in batch showed that CoO is the active phase of CoCeO and that the copresence of Ir and Co (IrCoCeO) enhanced H productivity.

Infrared spectroscopy (IR) is a widely used technique enabling to identify specific functional groups in the molecule of interest based on their characteristic vibrational modes or the presence of a specific adsorption site based on the characteristic vibrational mode of an adsorbed probe molecule. The interpretation of an IR spectrum is generally carried out within a fingerprint paradigm by comparing the observed spectral features with the features of known references or theoretical calculations. This work demonstrates a method for extracting quantitative structural information beyond this approach by application of machine learning (ML) algorithms.

Even though confinement was identified as a common element of selective catalysis and simulations predicted enhanced properties of adsorbates within microporous materials, experimental results on the characterization of the adsorbed phase are still rare. In this study, we provide experimental evidence of the increase of propene density in the channels of Zn-MOF-74 by 16(2)% compared to the liquid phase. The ordered propene molecules adsorbed within the pores of the MOF have been localized by in situ neutron powder diffraction, and the results are supported by adsorption studies.

Ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS) is a powerful tool to characterize the surface structure of heterogeneous catalysts . In order to improve the time resolution and the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio of photoemission spectra, we collected consecutive APXP spectra during the periodic perturbation of a powder Pd/AlO catalyst away from its equilibrium state according to the modulated excitation approach (ME). Averaging of the spectra along the alternate pulses of O and CO improved the S/N ratio demonstrating that the time resolution of the measurement can be limited solely to the acquisition time of one spectrum.

This article discusses the findings of a new qualitative study conducted in 28 European countries, examining barriers to cultural participation as perceived by representatives of organisations of people with disabilities. The study explores barriers operating in all art-forms as well as in cultural heritage, and it encompasses participation of people with a broad range of disability types both as audiences and as creators of culture. The article evidences that a range of interlinked barriers are commonly perceived by people with disabilities in five areas - lack of effective laws and policies; inadequate services and/or funding; negative attitudes; lack of accessibility; and lack of involvement of persons with disabilities in cultural organisations.

Infrared spectroscopy is widely used to analyse the surface of solid materials central to modern chemical processes. For liquid phase experiments, the attenuated total reflection mode (ATR-IR) requires the use of waveguides that can limit a broader applicability of the technique for catalysis studies. Here, we demonstrate that high quality spectra of the solid-liquid interface can be collected in diffuse reflectance mode (DRIFTS) thus opening future applications of infrared spectroscopy.

Background: Phenotypic dysmorphism is not rare to be found in the human oocyte, especially in the perivitelline space, which are among the most important aberration of the extra cytoplasmic component.

Case Presentation: The case is of a 30-yr-old woman with no previous pregnancy, attempting an in vitro fertilization treatment for the first time.
