Purpose: To determine whether celiac children are at risk for EEG-neurological features and sleep disordered breathing (SDB), and whether an appropriate gluten-free diet (GFD) influences these disorders.

Methods: We consecutively enrolled 19 children with a new biopsy-proven celiac disease (CD) diagnosis. At CD diagnosis and after 6 months of GFD, each patient underwent a general and neurological examination, an electroencephalogram, a questionnaire about neurological features, and a validated questionnaire about SDB: OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) scores<0 predict normality; values>0 predict OSA.

We have investigated solvatochromic effects over a solvent series of increasing polarity on the prototype molecule pyrimidine as a solute species. The line shape profiles, obtained by a time-dependent approach based on quantum mechanical calculations performed over frames sampled from classical molecular dynamics trajectories, were directly compared to the available experimental bands. The multireference configuration interaction second-order perturbation (CI-MRPT2) calculations are in quantitative agreement with the experiment.

Introduction: in this study we report the functional results of 36 professional athletes treated with a combined percutaneous and mini-open technique.

Methods: patients were evaluated with Victorian Institute of Sports Assessment-Achilles questionnaire (VISA-A), the objective 100-points Hannover scale and the Ergo-jump Bosco System device.

Purpose: The accelerometer-based system is a portable surgical navigation system for TKA that does not require the use of a large computer console for registration and alignment feedback as required in computer-assisted surgery (CAS). The purpose of this prospective study was to determine the accuracy of the accelerometer-based system in the tibial component positioning and also to evaluate clinical outcomes.

Purpose Of Review: Knowledge of the epidemiology and the risk factors of invasive fungal diseases (IFDs) in hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients is a critical determinant of the prevention, diagnosis and therapeutic antifungal strategy. Transplant procedures are characterized by a continuous evolution; therefore, an update of the epidemiological findings of IFDs in HSCT populations is needed.

Recent Findings: In the last few years, the incidence and the clinical risk factors of IFD, mainly in allogeneic HSCT populations, have been investigated in prospective, multicenter studies.

Aim: The aim of this paper was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the FFI to the Italian language, and to assess the reliability of the Italian version of the FFI (FFI-I) for plantar fasciitis.

Methods: Fifty symptomatic patients affected by plantar fasciitis completed the FFI-I scale twice, at interval of one week. The translation of the FFI was performed according to international standards for translation of questionnaires.

Autonomic signs and symptoms could be of epileptic or nonepileptic origin, and the differential diagnosis depends on a number of factors which include the nature of the autonomic manifestations themselves, the occurrence of other nonictal autonomic signs/symptoms, and the age of the patient. Here, we describe twelve children (aged from ten months to six years at the onset of the symptoms) with Panayiotopoulos syndrome misdiagnosed as gastroesophageal reflux disease. Gastroesophageal reflux disease and Panayiotopoulos syndrome may represent an underestimated diagnostic challenge.

Congenital sternal defects are rare deformities frequently associated with other anomalies of the chest wall and other organ systems. Although pectus excavatum, pectus carinatum, and cleft sternum can present as isolated deformity, in most cases they are associated with heart and inner organs anomalies and described as symptoms of syndromes like Marfan syndrome, Noonan syndrome, Poland anomaly, and Cantrell pentalogy. In contrast, the etiology of an isolated defect is not well understood.

Large-scale longitudinal neuroimaging studies with diffusion imaging techniques are necessary to test and validate models of white matter neurophysiological processes that change in time, both in healthy and diseased brains. The predictive power of such longitudinal models will always be limited by the reproducibility of repeated measures acquired during different sessions. At present, there is limited quantitative knowledge about the across-session reproducibility of standard diffusion metrics in 3T multi-centric studies on subjects in stable conditions, in particular when using tract based spatial statistics and with elderly people.

Unlike graphene--which shows a wavelength-independent absorbance for visible light--the electronic bandgap, and therefore the optical response, of graphene nanoribbons changes with ribbon width. Methods: The medical records of all dogs with infected antebrachial and crural non-union fractures treated using the methods of Ilizarov at the Department of Animal Pathology of the University of Turin between 2006 and 2011 were retrospectively reviewed. Nuclear medicine imaging of endocrine disorders takes advantage of unique cellular properties of endocrine organs and tissues that can be depicted by targeted radiopharmaceuticals. Detailed functional maps of biodistributions of radiopharmaceutical uptake can be displayed in three-dimensional tomographic formats, using single photon emission computed tomography (CT) that can now be directly combined with simultaneously acquired cross-sectional anatomic maps derived from CT. The integration of function depicted by scintigraphy and anatomy with CT has synergistically improved the efficacy of nuclear medicine imaging across a broad spectrum of clinical applications, which include some of the oldest imaging studies of endocrine dysfunction.

Despite improvements in overall prognosis, in the quality of life and in growth targets, children on peritoneal dialysis are subject to a high risk of growth retardation, especially if the disease begins in the early stages of life. In these patients, spontaneous feeding often does not provide an adequate intake of nutrients and early start of enteral nutrition needs to be considered. An intensive nutritional approach should always be established early and can be technically achieved using either a naso-gastric tube or a gastrostomy.

A homemade program called FOXY has been used for the theoretical investigation on the conducting properties of two diarylethene based molecules, which, according to recent literature data, can act as photoswitches. FOXY uses a simplified method relying on NEGF theory coupled to DFT calculations and using a suitable electric field to mimic the bias voltage, together with a simple representation of the electrodes. The results confirm the experimental findings and are rationalized by analyzing the space extension of the pertinent molecular orbitals in the ON and OFF electronic states and confirm the FOXY program as a cheap and reliable code to be used in the field of molecular electronics.
