Introduction/aims: The impact of treatment expectations on active treatment outcomes has not been specifically investigated in neuromuscular disorders. We thus explored in myasthenia gravis (MG) the contribution of patients' pre-treatment expectations combined with an immunosuppressant drug on treatment outcomes.
Methods: This pilot correlational study involved 17 patients with generalized MG, scheduled to start immunosuppressant azathioprine.
Background And Purpose: We evaluated the clinical and neurophysiological efficacy of rituximab (RTX) in a neurophysiologically homogeneous group of patients with monoclonal gammopathy and immunoglobulin M (IgM) anti-myelin-associated glycoprotein antibody (anti-MAG) demyelinating polyneuropathy.
Methods: Twenty three anti-MAG-positive polyneuropathic patients were prospectively evaluated before and for 2 years after treatment with RTX 375 mg/m . The Inflammatory Neuropathy Cause and Treatment (INCAT) disability scale (INCAT-ds), modified INCAT sensory score (mISS), Medical Research Council sum score, Patients' Global Impression of Change scale were used, IgM levels were assessed and extensive electrophysiological examinations were performed before (T0) and 1 year (T1) and 2 years (T2) after RTX treatment.

Objective: To determine whether a Lasmar score obtained entirely by the use of two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound provides results similar to those obtained using the original hysteroscopic technique.
Methods: This was a prospective study performed on a series of patients presenting with symptomatic submucous fibroids and scheduled for hysteroscopic myomectomy. Ultrasound Lasmar scores were obtained by a single physician, a specialist in ultrasonography, in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.
Of 37 multiple sclerosis patients, 19 suboptimal responders were randomized to 375 (n=12) or 250µg (n=7) interferon (IFN)-β-1b. mRNA levels of 23 cytokines, chemokines, and chemokine receptors were quantified by TaqMan low-density array (TLDA) real-time polymerase chain reaction. Better treatment responses or increased IFN-β doses were associated with elevated IL-10 and TGF-β and decreased CXCL10, IL-18, IFN-γ, and TNF-α transcript levels.

We characterized the Th1/Th17 cell populations in peripheral blood (PB), their interferon (IFN) receptor expression sensitivity to IFN-beta in MS patients.
Methods: In 30 untreated patients with active MS (AMS) and 32 with inactive MS (IMS), and in 22 healthy subjects, we measured intracellular cytokine expression, interleukin-17-producing myelin basic protein-stimulated PB lymphocytes, surface IFN type I receptor chain1 (IFN-alphaR1) expression, IFN-beta-dependent signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (STAT1) phosphorylation, and apoptosis of anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody-stimulated PB lymphocytes.

Study Design: In a retrospective study, medical records of 102 patients who underwent vaginal hysterectomy and who had uterine weight (evaluated after surgery) 250 g or greater were reviewed. All hysterectomies were performed by using the LigaSure vessel sealing system to secure vascular pedicles (uterosacral-cardinal, uterine and ovarian and round ligaments).
